How is anyone going to be able to afford anything if inflation continues?
I just paid 6.47 a gallon for gas. And it literally made me have a panic attack. That's about 30 cents for every mile i drive. How is anyone going to afford anything? That's $7 a day just to get my kids to and from preschool.
Salaries aren't going up at the rate that the housing, gas, car, food, daycare, insurance, activities, travel are.
I live a very average life and id say I'm very middle class. I don't impulse buy. I love bargains. 1x a year i try to visit 1 family member since my family lives around the nation (except 1 out of country i haven't even visited). I don't care about flashy things, like going over the top for my kids bdays. We barely every eat out, maybe 1x a month max. And i feel like we've been pretty good about saving and investing in the past.
But all of these price increases have literally got me in a panic. How will anyone be able to afford anything? When will the line be drawn where we all get out priced?
The Damage of ‘Trump Math’ Is Adding Up (2026) (CC) [00:07:40]
The federal government is, by far, the world’s most important source of data, a fount of statistical information on a wide range of subjects touching almost every aspect of human life.

The Supreme Court of Canada has created a civil tort built around coercive control — and it names what survivors have always known
If you have ever been told that what happened in your marriage was “just a high-conflict relationship,” you should know what the Supreme Court of Canada did on May 15, 2026.
In a 6-3 decision in Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia, the Court created an entirely new civil tort.1 Not assault. Not battery. Not intentional infliction of emotional distress. A new wrong, named for what it actually is. The systematic stripping of a partner’s dignity, autonomy, and equality inside an intimate relationship.
Justice Nicholas Kasirer, writing for the majority, called intimate partner violence “a pernicious social ill deserving of the full attention of the law.”2 That is the language of a court that has finally caught up. Survivors, frontline workers, and a generation of researchers — Susan Schechter, Evan Stark, Emma Katz, Joan Meier — have been saying this for decades.3 4

Why do people criticise Trump by calling him TACO, when most of the stuff he cowers from doing would be terrible?
I hate Trump, but it’s always baffled me why many of his critics call him TACO, which stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out”, and mocks the fact that he often promises and claims to do big stuff, only to back out of them. Yet, I’ve never understood this criticism, because most of the stuff he chickens out of doing are terrible, harmful ideas, so it seems odd to me to criticise him for not doing a terrible, harmful thing. For example, my liberal friend made fun of Trump for not going through with the Gulf of Mexico idea, by calling Trump ‘TACO.’ To me, this is (metaphorically) as asinine as telling a psycho ‘haha, you said you would burn my house down and then decided not to. What a loser!’ In what way is this an effective criticism? With someone as thin skinned and aware of criticism as Trump, wouldn’t this just read as a temptation to do more of the terrible things he promises, to avoid this criticism?
Netanyahu made secret visit to UAE to meet with country's president
Washington — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a secret visit to the United Arab Emirates recently, where he met with Mohammed bin Zayed, the country's president, sources told CBS News.
Netanyahu's office later acknowledged the trip, saying in a statement that it "resulted in a historic breakthrough in relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates."
Spokespeople for the UAE did not immediately comment.

GovBrief Today #466 - What Happened Today
The Cultural Landscape Foundation sued today to stop the $13.1 million paint job on the floor of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
The original quote was $1.5 million. The Trump administration skipped competitive bidding, the normal process for federal contracts this size. They handed the work to a Virginia company that painted the swimming pool at Trump's golf club. Trump wanted turquoise, "like in the Bahamas." The owner talked him down to "American flag blue."
Trump's motorcade drove him across the drained pool last Thursday so he could inspect the paint. For over a century, architect Henry Bacon's Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool have mirrored the grandeur of the National Mall. Trump decided it should instead look like a three-star hotel in Nassau, with a job that will pay one of his vendors more than eight times what he told the American people. Use 5 Calls or Resistbot to tell your representatives to open an investigation into Trump's latest grift.

GovBrief Today #462 - What Happened Today
Kathy Hochul didn't blink when it came to protecting New Yorkers, especially the kids.
She wasn't guessing. Today, ProPublica documented 79 children harmed by federal agents using tear gas and pepper spray. Those are only the ones reporters could find and confirm. Tom Homan threatened twice this week to flood New York with more agents than the state had ever seen. That's the same kind of surge that hit Minneapolis a couple of months ago, where federal agents shot three people, killed two of them, and lied about all three.
Hochul announced the budget framework anyway. The mask comes off in New York, and ICE can't walk into a school or hospital without a judge's warrant. Then she dared Homan to come ahead.
Don't wait for the federal government to stop hurting kids. Use Resistbot and 5 Calls to contact your governor and demand protections from anonymous federal agents swarming your cities.
