2026-08-19: Azzi Fudd is OUT for the rest of 2026.

This explains why Paige Bueckers has been mentally checked out for the past several games. I'm posting this news in the Fire sub because it has the potential to affect the teams' playoff chances. The right combination of wins and losses by both teams can lead to the Fire making the playoffs.

Just to be clear, the Wings are my home team, but I think the coach (Jose Fernandez) is terrible. Maybe missing the playoffs will give management an excuse to fire him.

LET'S GO FIRE!!!

Carla Leite is the WNBA's most improved player - this surprised me

I'm not a Fire fan because I'm already a Mystics fan but everyone on the Fire roster is extremely likeable.

Someone just posted Bridget as the most underrated player and I absolutely agree. I think it's because these types of awards generally go to players on winning teams. I just found myself guilty of this bias.

I did an analysis of who should win most improved player. Sports books currently have Leite as the 5th most likely candidate to win the award. I'm glad I chose to analyze the top 5 because I would have missed this otherwise. When you look at analytically with an actual criteria ...

Carla Leite should win the most improved player award and it's not even close.

How to get a Fire jersey in Canada?

Hello! I tried buying a Carleton rebel jersey from the official shop but they only ship in the USA. I haven’t had any luck in finding a Canadian store with Fire jerseys, is there any way to get a jersey here or am I out of luck?

What do you like from other arenas/orgs?

I’m sure the Fire org and business offices will be doing some reflection and analysis before next season. Let’s give them some ideas! What do you like/enjoy that other organizations or arenas do?

This should be the poster for every win.

I think Carla Leite can be the franchise player, keep her in Portland for the rest of her career.

Most Improved Player

Just finished the latest episode of The Dunker Spot where they discuss their frontrunners for MIP.

It's a well argued list & a pleasant discussion, I don't see any big omissions.

- Mabrey, TOR

- Austin, WAS

- Leite, PDX

- Carleton, PDX

- Di Leo, PDX

- Malonga, SEA

- Hiedeman, SEA

- Burrell, LAS

- Smith, LVA

- Shepard, DAL

Shout-outs: N.Sabally, TOR & Harrison, TOR

I might add Burton, GSV because she's even more important for a better team than last year.

Young, LVA is an interesting case of 'career year', better across the board but maybe not enough of a leap - ofc that gets harder the higher the base is.

Engstler, POR is also mentioned in the episode. Quite the improvement, impressive esp. on the defensive end & her importance for the team. Same can be said for Coffey, MIN - fantastic job filling in for Phee, whilst taking no prisoners on D.

Both don't have too many shiny numbers to gather votes but should IMO be mentioned.

There's also quite a few players with what 'feels' like nice seasons, that are better than last year but not enough to be MIP:

- Nelson-Ododa, CON

- Citron, WAS

- Iriafen, WAS

- Salaun, GSV

- Mack, PHO

Howard, MIN is a special case of ReturnToFormPOY but not really a MIP.

Any other interesting players not mentioned?

The Carla Leite Show Is Never Too Late! Anybody Getting Goosebumps Over Watching Her, Martin & Muhl Next Season?

The Leite Show spoiled DT's night and I love it because it was on ESPN, too. We had eyes on this game since we followed CC vs. AR's OT thriller, as well. Man, I just love everything about this team, they're so gritty and scrappy man. The games are entertaining down the stretch and they more than makeup for their shortcomings as a young team.

Shoutout to BC and the leader she's become for this team. I think the team has really been built off of the type of tough hard nose blue collar player that she is and they're following suit. She got that game winning block at the end after a rough shooting night and knocked down two key free throws to seal it. Obviously little Carla Leite is the MVP, that 4th quarter performance was awesome. Nobody could stop her, she was too fast.

Also shoutout to Jordan Harrison for her passing, she was key in those stretches finding the open shooters. She's starting to grow on me a little bit. Also, Frieda Buhner hit some key 3s throughout the game. She's going to be a dangerous offensive player in the future.

Alex Sarama is doing some real coaching, too, the last few games, he's gone with somebody different in that last starter's spot to close the game. It was Oblak against Minnesota, Winterburn against Seattle, and tonight and Samuelson. He rode the hot hands in these games.

I can't believe we reached win #15 this fast, even though I'll love to make the playoffs. This season is already a success to me even if we lose the rest of our games. It's crazy we're doing all of this without SAB right now.

Guys the future is so bright, we still got Iyana Martin and Nika Muhl on the way next season. That's the craziest thing about what's going on right now. That backcourt of Martin & Leite could be lethal.

Spain beat Germany 65-60 in a friendly yesterday, here’s the stats from Portland Fire players:

Spain and Germany played in a friendly match yesterday where Spain took the win 65-60. Here’s the stats from Portland Fire players:

🇪🇸 Iyana Martín - 19 PTS, 3 REB, 4 AST on 6-7 FG, 1-1 3P, 6-6 FT in 21 MIN (+11)

🇩🇪 Luisa Geiselsoder - 13 PTS, 7 REB, on 6-11 FG in 25 MIN (+3)

Iyana Martín is already cooking, can’t wait to watch her in September! I hope Luisa continues to play well for Germany and regains her confidence going into next season.

The Cost of Winning in the WNBA

The WNBA's salary structure creates some absurd value gaps. A rookie on a scale contract and a max-salary veteran can produce nearly identical win shares while one earns five times the other.

I pulled every player's 2026 salary from Her Hoops Stats and win share totals from Basketball Reference (as of 8/11/26) and calculated win shares per $1M to see who's actually delivering on their current deals.

The results sort into four tiers, from elite value down to contracts that aren't returning much of anything. A few names in the top group won't surprise anyone. A few in the bottom group might.

Note: I put a minimum of 250 minutes played, so players like Napheesa Collier (MIN), Ezi Magbegor (SEA), Brionna Jones (ATL), and Satou Sabally (NYL) did not qualify yet.
