PM songs by decided non-PM bands

I don’t usually go in for the genre nit-picking, but what are some examples of songs that sound Power Metal AF, but aren’t by bands generally considered Power Metal?

Couple of bangers of the top of my head:

Hail to the Hordes - Kreator
Beneath the Howling Stars - Cradle of Filth (tbh the entire Cruelty and the Beast album sounds like a PM album with harsh vocals)
The Flood - Kill2This

Memories from the 1994 World Cup

NanoWar - 2023 - Dislike To False Metal - Pasadena 1994 [feat Joakim]

Pasadena 1994

Last fight of the heroes sent to war

Pasadena 1994 for the glory

Eleven soldiers marching

Under the sun on fields of green

It's their last battle, death or victory

Against the odds and all the bets

Bookmakers say there is no chance

Carioca's win outnumbers two to one

And Captain Baresi leads bravely the last line of defence (immortal)

While Roberto Baggio is ready to fire on Taffarel

Pasadena 1994

Last fight of the heroes sеnt to war

Pasadena 1994 for the glory

Pasadena 1994

First half is ovеr and no score

Pasadena 1994 for the FIFA World Cup

36 degrees of fire

70% of humidity

Castel Sant'Angelo sets a jumbo screen

Their nation stands behind them

Catenaccio dignified

To defend the honour of the FIGC

Romario and Bebeto are neutralized by the Italian offside trap (Maldini)

While general Sacchi displaces his troops for the final stand

Pasadena 1994

Last fight of the heroes sent to war

Pasadena 1994 for the glory

Pasadena 1994

Second half is over, still a draw

Pasadena 1994 for the FIFA World Cup

Baresi shot towards Japan like a North Korean warhead

Albertini lights up the crowd as napalm in Vietnam

Evani quickly outflanks the Maginot line of Taffarel

Massaro got pushed back like the Entente in Gallipoli

Baggio's charge collapses, it's the Italian Waterloo

Pasadena 1994

Last fight of the heroes sent to war

Pasadena 1994 for the glory

Pasadena 1994

The battle is lost and the hope is gone

Pasadena 1994 for the glory

Pasadena 1994

Their memory lives forevermore

Pasadena 1994 for the glory

For the second place

The divine ponytail waves on

Blood Star - Cold Moon

Blood Star - 2023 - First Sighting - Cold Moon

Under Charon, day as dark as night

Far from sun, hidden from the light

Where thieves and scoundrels play deadly games

And only spirits know your name

I’ll tell you how I earned these hollow, sunken eyes

Worth a fortune to bring him back alive

By his hand so many died

The price of mercy was much too high

Under the cold, cold moon

Under the cold, cold moon

His life will be mine, under still skies

Under the cold, cold moon

Bastard blew an airlock across the solar line

One thousand souls, boiled them all alive

Not for money, nothing did he gain

He don’t care what he’d done

His pleasure was their pain

On the night side where snakes and cowards lie

A den of vermin beneath the cold starlight

Forty guns to one, odds ain’t on my side

The things that I’ve done, into hell I ride

Under the cold, cold moon

Under the cold, cold moon

Second to none, live and die by the gun

Under the cold, cold moon

Bastard caught my bullet right between the eyes

Told you I’d have you though I ain’t too far behind

Smoke from your shoulders you’ll take no more lives

The things that I’ve done, I’ll pay for them in time

Under the cold, cold moon

Under the cold, cold moon

His life will be mine, under still skies

Under the cold, cold moon

Under the cold, cold moon

The life left my eyes, under still skies

Under the cold, cold moon

Njørd- Prometheus Fire

My young, swiss powermetal inspired band has just released our first single Prometheus Fire ! Filmed on a ruin

Every watch, listen or feedback would mean a lot! It was bloody cold on that ruin:)

And yes, I am aware that we have a viking look but sing about a Greek God haha. Two of us are literature students…

Marina at Battle Beast

I was honestly a bit anxious about Battle Beast's future after Noora left. Then I finally stumbled upon this live show : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrCyAxP6x6c

For sure, nobody will ever replace Noora (seeing her in Lyon just weeks before her departure remains one of my favorite concert memories, ever), but Marina is definitely holding her own and doing a killer job!

At Vance - Power & Glory

I've known about this band for a long time but never really took the time to listen through their catalog. Beginning to think they're underrated!

Tanith - 2023 - Voyage - Adrasteia

Tanith - 2023 - Voyage - Adrasteia

Finally the found her back in 2903

A drifting capsule far across the galaxy

Of all the things she could’ve been it had to be this way

A lone survivor until her dying day

Adrasteia, the quest never died in your heart

Your fearless heart

Had always belonged to the stars

She could have chosen any field

In which to leave her mark

But signed up for a mission

That soared into the dark

A lifelong odyssey that took their vessel far

Captured the last moments of a dying

Massive star

Adrasteia, hope never left your heart

Your fearless heart, true to the end

As it was true from the start

On their return the mothership was destroyed

A piece of cosmic debris

Leapt out of the void

A shattering explosion

That no one could survive

She barely made it to the lifeboat alive

In total isolation

Drifting deeper into space

They lost communication

But she carried on in case

The writing, art and poetry

That one day would enthrall

A beacon for humanity

Of grace and hope for all

Adrasteia, gifted child

With the world at your feet

The world you left

Without adventure your life was incomplete

Scorpions - 1978 - The Sails Of Charon - The Sails Of Charon

Scorpions - 1978 - The Sails Of Charon - The Sails Of Charon

Dark night, there is no light

In the realm of the black magic man

Soul's flight into the cold blight

Of the destroyer's magic land

Poor man, whose spirits are stronger

They're a little too weary

You're starting to...

Blind man, you're suckin' your own blood

Soon black magic's dying

You'd better start crying

Blind man, you're suckin' your own blood

Soon black magic's dying

You'd better start crying

Throw out your evil desire

The dark king's kingdom is

Made out of mire

Throw out your evil desire

The dark king's kingdom is

Made out of mire

Keep on for the kingdom of light

There is no darkness, there is no night

Post-Turilli (and later Post-Fabio) Rhapsody of Fire is way, way better than the community gives it credit for and they're totally being slept on

Every band with major lineup changes goes through this and fanbases often refuse to give the newer lineup a fair chance. Just about every major power metal band goes through this, but a lot of them still recover and settle into their own "groove" so to speak. Stratovarius, Helloween, Dark Moor, Nightwish, etc...

But honestly I feel like Rhapsody of Fire has become a bit of a punching bag, which I feel is pretty unjustified. While Dark Wings of Steel is a pretty lame album, the albums since have been mostly stellar. Staropoli has been pretty hated too for some reason, and everyone seems to think Luca was the only composer of the classic lineup and totally ignore the fact that Staropoli was co-composer on all their albums.

Roberto Micheli and Giacomo Voli have been incredible replacements for Turilli and Fabio, and the drummers and bassists they've gone through have been incredible as well. Anyone who thinks the lineup just isn't as good from an instrumental point of view really needs to listen to their newest album.

Voli has a totally different voice than Fabio and most definitely takes a bit to get used to. But I do not know how anyone can listen to "March Against the Tyrant" or "The Wind the Rain and the Moon" and not realize how incredible of a vocalist he is.

I could see the argument that the songwriting is pretty standard Rhapsody formula, but even then there's still some of the best material in the whole Rhapsody saga from Into the Legend to the newest album (which is the heaviest stuff they've done).

Anyone who has slept on the band should really listen to these songs in particular and give them a chance:

Distant Sky

Valley of Shadows

Rise from Tragic Flames

Seven Heroic Deeds

March Against the Tyrant

The Wind, The Rain and The Moon

Legend Goes On

Chains of Destiny

Bloody Pariah

Vanquished by Shadows

Whispers of Doom
