Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Lancashire Festival Avenham & Miller Park #Lancsfest

It's 3 weeks until the Lancashire Festival is on. Grassroots music, stalls, food, bar and entertainment. Can bring your own chairs and enjoy the whole day. Only a fiver to get in if you book ahead.

Our community music group Sounds Out will be opening the show at 12:30 with some well know hits to hopefully get the crowd in the mood.

Anyone hearing/feeling a helicopter type noise that is shaking their house

I live near mill lane park and currently there is a vibrating feeling that is shaking my house, I’ve attached a video where you can hear it, I’m using AirPods Pro 2 at max volume and can hear it on the video I’ve taken, not going crazy so is anyone else experiencing this, it’s moving now, towards deepdale but still very close to my house, not constant noise either, it’s stuttering so hopefully it isn’t a helicopter or anything like that cos that sounds like engine failure in that case, can hear it through noise cancelling AirPods aswell, it’s a stupid time to be doing that over a city full of families, people that are going to work and it’s very quiet but it’s very noticeable because it’s creating a vibration somehow, hope this isn’t me going crazy lol

Seafood restaurants in the North West (or further if worth it).

Recently started eating more seafood but haven't had the chance to try anywhere that really specialises in it. Are there any highly recommended/rated seafood restaurants nearby? Willing to travel anywhere near the NW aside from Manchester city centre.

Relocating to Preston

Hi community, I’m looking on advice of areas to consider for a mod 30s couple with a 2 year old. Preference is to have a peaceful, friendly neighbourhood with good transport links and connectivity, good nurseries , primary schools around as well as other amenities.

Thanks

Alone in this city

Hi everyone,

I’ve been living in Preston for over six months now, and to be honest, I’ve been feeling quite lonely. I haven’t managed to make any friends, whether male or female, and being single has made it even harder.

I work from home, so I think that probably doesn’t help. Recently, I’ve started getting out more and spending time in Preston city centre. For example, if I see a woman I find attractive, I’ll smile, politely introduce myself, and compliment her. I’m just trying to be more social and step outside my comfort zone.

Life is starting to feel repetitive and boring, and I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have been in a similar situation. How did you make friends or build a social life in Preston?

Thanks

Renting outside the city centre

Hello,

I am currently in the process of moving to Preston to start work as a new graduate. I would prefer to rent outside the city centre as I have a car and would prefer parking to be less of a pain. Ideally 1 bed apartments/ studio. Does anyone have any suggestions or areas known to be better

Thank you !
