Prince of Persia: Time Run, the lost 2015 iOS game, is playable again after 10+ years

We actually found it. After years of this being a dead end for anyone who went looking, Prince of Persia: Time Run runs again.

Quick background for anyone who's never heard of it. Time Run was an endless runner Ubisoft soft launched on the iOS App Store in Australia and New Zealand back in October 2015. Wall running, a time rewind mechanic, flying carpet sections, basically a Prince of Persia coat of paint on a runner. It got a brief wider release and then Ubisoft pulled the plug on May 24, 2016 and yanked it from the store. Under seven months from launch to shutdown. Because it only ever shipped on iOS, once it left the App Store it was just gone. No physical copy, no re-release, nothing. If you didn't have it installed or sitting in a backup, that was it.

A bunch of us have been chasing it since around 2020 with nothing to show for it. The break came this year when u/Persian_of_Interest tracked down Techzamazing, a YouTuber who had added the game to his Apple account while it was still live, and who was willing to work with us to get it back.

That got us a decrypted IPA. Which then refused to launch. The game leans on old SDK calls that modern iOS doesn't answer the same way anymore, so it crashed on startup, and under PlayCover on Apple Silicon the background rendered as a black void. We wrote a few small dynamic libraries to patch around each problem. One for the launch crash, one to kill the dead Game Center and StoreKit sign in prompts, and one to fix the PlayCover graphics. Full writeup of what each fix does is on GitHub: (Link)

So here's where things stand:

  • Anyone with an iPhone or an Apple Silicon Mac (through PlayCover) can play it now.
  • Patched IPAs and the decrypted original are up on the Internet Archive: (Link)
  • Prefer to build your own instead of trusting a random IPA? The archive has the clean decrypted base, and the GitHub scripts let you generate the patches yourself.
  • There are optional "everything unlocked" builds too. A lot of the skins were locked behind a Facebook invite link that's been dead for years, so this is the only way to actually see them now.

Heads up: the game was never finished, so there's no proper ending. All the released levels are playable though, as far as we could test.

Huge thanks to u/gpranav25, u/Clovergruff64, u/Persian_of_Interest, and Techzamazing for making this happen. Next we'd love to get it running on other platforms, so if you know the engine or want to help, say so.

Sands of Time has joined GOG's preservation program

The main improvements they have made:

181 GOG v2 (18 August 2026)

Implemented a lightweight wrapper to resolve modern hardware incompatibilities.

Added native widescreen and ultrawide support for all modern resolutions and aspect ratios.

Implemented camera scaling that automatically adjusts the field of view (FOV) based on monitor aspect ratio.

Added a multi-monitor mouse lock option to confine the cursor to the game window.

Added an FPS limiter to lock the frame rate to a chosen value.

Introduced a lightweight, real-time in-game overlay (press F11 to open, ESC to close) for instant adjustments to FPS limits and FOV multipliers.

Locked the main menu to its original 4:3 bounds to preserve hard-coded UI assets.

Capped the manual FOV slider at roughly 110% on ultrawide displays to prevent engine stretching and graphical glitches.

Verified stability.

What are the basic things I should do & get in the early game

Yk like in Hollow Knight, it's best to have Wayward Company in the beginning. Saving Zote leads to consequences like an extra boss. Gimme info like that guys. It'll be helpful. What to buy from the mage?

What game speed y'all play with?

Just finished POP warrior within. And this time I came across the real ending

When I was a kid I used to play this game a lot with my friends. My friend Akash used to discover new health upgrade places which were kinda hidden and he showed us 4 health upgrade places. We somehow completed this game but we never got th real ending coz we didn’t get the water sword. So in alternate ending we kill kaileena a Dhaka comes and takes her back to her time and game ends.

Now I again completed this game but this time I got the water sword and at last we fight against the Dhaka. This was the real ending we were told.

I’ll forever be grateful for the guy who gave me this game as a gift, such wonderful piece of work

Does dagger of time pendant merch exist?

Not sure if it was only for Korea, but I once had a pendant shaped just like this.

I got it from PS2 The Sands of Time event for CD buyers in Korea.

Unfortunately I lost it and have no picture of it.

I really love the design, but it seems like there's nowhere I can buy it.

As here are a lot who made a 3D model, is there anyone who made this for a pendant?

how to play forgotten sands at 60fps 60hz if game locks you at lowest refresh rate like 24hz of tv monitor

i was recently decided to play prince of persia forgotten sands on my sony bravia 3 tv via pc

forgotten sands have some error it locks game at lowest available refresh rate of resolution which is 24hz in most cases if you play on tv this game cannot let you select refresh rate like tomb raider anniversary

i 1st set resolution on 1440p then game set refresh rate on 24hz

i again lower down resolution now set at 1080p then again it set to 24hz

actually 2160p 1440p 1080p all supports 24hz refresh rate and bravia 3 supports 24hz too

so you cannot choose these resolutions on smart tv if you are playing on it playing this game

then i read somewhere if your game forcing you to play at lowest refresh on tv

then choose a monitor only resolution

your best choice is 1600x900 or 1366x768 5120x2880 which only supports 60hz or higher refresh rate or choose a monitor only resolution then you can play this game at 60fps

or enable virtual super resolution on nvidia or amd gpu and select 5120x2880 resolution its better than 4k and only supports 60hz lowest

I really wish there was a Godsmack removal mod.

I decided to do a replay of the Sands trilogy, just finished SoT and it's still very good. But moving into WW, I got into the first Dahaka chase and there's the opening riff of "I Stand Alone." Now I actually like a bit of Godsmack from time to time, and I don't mind the shift to the grungy heavy metal aesthetic (though I do prefer the look of the other games in the series). But when that riff spun up I had to stop.

I was an edgy teenager when WW came out, the exact demographic they were aiming for. Yet, even back then I felt that adding contemporary licensed music into a historical action game was desperate. Today it's basically like getting smacked in the face with the "how do you do fellow kids" meme, and it's actually hard to take the game seriously after every chase section. Which is a shame because I actually like most of the original music they did.

I have no problem going back and playing games that are, for better or worse, products of their time. I don't have any problem with Splinter Cell using Crystal Method's "Name of the Game" or Doom3's flashlight mechanics. But the use of Godsmack in WW really bugs me. I think it's the fact that it's in the gameplay itself instead of just being used for the trailer or the end credits. Really just takes me out of the experience.

Preserved! The GBA version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time instruction manual is finally archived in high quality

Hey everyone!

A while back, we realized there wasn't a clean, high-quality digital copy of the GBA instruction manual for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time anywhere online.

Thanks to a fellow Redditor who had a physical copy, we managed to get a high-res scan fully uploaded and preserved on the Internet Archive for researchers, collectors, and fans of the series.

The Link is in comment section. Enjoy the 2000s artwork

Yuri Lowenthal signed my dagger today!

Yuri was at the Boston fan expo today and signed my dagger of time. What an awesome, friendly guy he was. You can tell he really appreciates the franchise too.

Just finished prince of persia lost crown

Just finished lost crown and realised real prince of persia experience lies in metroidvania I mean challenges are really difficult boss fights cool and cut scenes and 2.5D graphics makes you feel like you are watching movie after when I am huge fan of Prince of Persia but also a 3D graphics lover when this came out I didn't tried it but when I just finished. I realised why they chose to create it in metroidvania style I mean whole game gets fit in under 1GB and run on almost any modern device that's how games should be. Any way it's one of the good prince of persia out there what are your thoughts on it.

Another game in my collection

But since I have all the games (not counting the ports) I bought a POP related game that isn't POP. Jordan Mechner's Karateka, for the NES (I looked for the Apple II game, but I didn't find).
