Considering a 2014 Prius C for $4k
It has almost 200k miles on it and the seats are severely stained (Will need probably a $600+ detail) but they just replaced the tires, head gasket, oil filter housing, oil pressure sensor, water pump, and thermostat.
I have to find out more info from the seller and then see the car in person but as far as the info I currently have, does that sound like a better than average deal?
It’s a private seller and they say they are firm on the price.
This Thang
The workhorse just sold. Put 145k miles on this sweet beauty over the last 9 years and 4 months. I put it through the wringer, stretched it beyond what it is “supposed” to do as much as possible, and it shows no sign of letting up any time soon. Purchased in early 2017 with 5k miles for $10k, sold today for $8.5. Quick math says I paid under $0.50 a day to own and use the hell out of this lovely, Japanese-made Prius C. I would say I’m gonna miss it, but, man I got what I needed out of it. Besides, I am really loving my Trailseeker.
New Car 😎
Just bought this 2012 last night and it's pretty awesome so far. Just can't figure out why the music pauses whenever I skip a song on Bluetooth.
New-To-Me Prius C: Sound Dampening + Audio Options?
Hi all! Hope I didn't miss anything in the wiki or previous posts, which I've already scoured. Loving my 2013 Prius C with 125k miles on it so much, especially given today's gas prices.
I'm wondering if there are effective ways to reduce road noise at highway speeds especially, or generally? I was about to swap out the radio head unit and install some new speakers, and realized that the increased sound quality might not be so noticeable if road noise kept me from hearing the clearer music.
I've seen some mentions on reddit + elsewhere of butyl CLD mats placed in the front doors, hatch skin, license plate area, and spare-tire well / foam sheets behind trim panels. Wondering if anyone here has tried this approach to sound deadening / cutting wind noise and rattles, on a Prius C or any other Prius? If so, how'd it work -- or maybe there are better options I just don't know about yet?
Just looking for feedback before going through the trouble of installation (not sure how tricky it is to install either) -- any thoughts, experiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm just a regular dude hoping to hear his tunes in (greater_ peace while driving my rock-solidly reliable 'lil marvel of 2013 engineering sipping gas...
Lifetime ownership costs by category, mile, year, and maintenance/repairs since purchase w/costs and mileage.
Purchased September, 2020 at ~66,000 miles, no major unexpected repairs aside from replacing dry-rotted sway arm joint boots, and recently got error code to replace the hybrid battery at ~173,000 miles, but haven't done so yet.
2024 onward, we both increased our insurance coverage and moved to an area with higher base insurance rates. Was really surprised to find that insurance has been about 1/3 of the total costs of this car.
I didn't include the Yakima roof rack nor my newest bike rack (1Up) in the totals because I bucketed those with hobby costs. Initial bike rack was included because the cost was forced after going from an old truck to the Prius, but I guess that could be true for the newer ones too.
Geico Coverage limits (cost/6 months = $1,313.48) with no penalty for driving history + 20+year length of policy discount:
- Bodily injury - $100k/$300k ($373.89)
- Liability property damage - $100k ($271.01)
- Uninsured motorist bodily injury - $100k/$300k ($339.19)
- Uninsured motorist property damage - $100k, $250 deductible ($52.21)
- Comprehensive $250 deductible ($56.78)
- Collision $500 deductible ($188.11)
- Rental reimbursement - $35/day, $1,050 max ($32.29)
Estimate to replace hybrid battery from local dealer -$3,600, cost to replace it myself w/ OEM battery purchased at different dealer after core charge returned ~$2,400. Still contemplating what to do.
Also need new tires. Happy to take any questions or discuss anything.

New owner of 2014. Service and maintenance?
Should be picking it up Tuesday.
I want to keep this car for a while. My son is 8 so in 8 years I can hand it off.
Ive never done any maintenance before. Always left it to the shop. But with this Prius I want to be more hands on.
It has 102K miles on it. What should I do first when I get it? Or what should I leave for a qualified mechanjc?
I’m especially interested in things I should inspect, replace, or catch up on at 102K miles, as well as any Prius-specific maintenance I should know about.
Thanks
Red Flag? Buy or pass

Oil change Routine
Hello, I live in a city where the Winters are 5-6 months long with -45C on the coldest months and +35 on the warmest months. I have a 2013 Prius C with 220k km or 135k miles. Its a daily driver with often 10-15 min trips, with an occasional 30-45 min drives. Given on how I drive my car, I wanted to change my oil change routine to accommodate for that situation where I can protect my car at its best. I read somewhere that hybrid cars that have short trips and drive in winters suffer from oil problems like gasoline thinning out the oil because the engine doesn’t often reach operating temp. My old routine was 8,000km or 6 months using Castrol Edge High Mileage. Considering my situation of short trips and living in areas where half of the year there is snow, i am planning on changing it to every 5,000km or 4 months but using Costco oil instead. What are your thoughts?
Want to install CarPlay and rearview camera unit into a 2015 Prius C-- would like help.
I just bought a used 2015 Prius C at 158k miles as my first car and its a cute little thing, and I love it so far, but wanted to see about installing a CarPlay unit and rearview camera-- mostly for the rearview camera if I'm being honest.
I have a friend who successfully had a unit installed onto a VW Rabbit and it looks and works great, but haven't been able to find much information on the same being done on the 2015 Prius C specifically, so I was wondering if anyone had any success with doing so and if there's recommendations on units to look at that'll fit the Prius C and tips. Or any other suggestions if installing one of those units isn't a great option. I just really don't know where to even start.
Also, like, if there's anything I should know about the 2015 Prius C, or like things to know as a first time car owner in general, that'd be great. Thanks!
Hybrid battery fan cause for concern?
i’ve owned my 2014 prius c for about 4 months and the hybrid battery fan just came on after driving less than a minute and stayed on for about 5 minutes after i pulled over. The energy monitor showed that the battery had all bars charged. There’s no debris on the fan shield. The hybrid battery was fully replaced about 5 years ago. This is the first time i’ve experienced this, should i be concerned at all?
Hood Liner
My hood liner is falling off. I was looking for replacement and found that the original is around $250. Is there a cheaper replacement for that part?
anti-slip dash inserts
does anyone know if anyone makes anti-slip dash inserts for the various cubby holes in the dash? I have a 2016 C and those things are slicker than snail snot. I'd appreciate any help I can get.
Mechanic recommendation: SF Bay Area
My car is approaching the 150,000 mile mark. Needs the transmission, coolant, and inverter coolant fluid change. The local mechanic I go to for oil change said he didn't want to touch the inverter and battery stuff. The dealership quote was crazy. Can anyone of this group suggest a good mechanic based in the SF Bay Area who works on Prius?
Does anyone know of some good center caps for OEM steel wheels?
Been looking into o0tions to spruce up the oem steel wheels and found the idea of center caps. They seem to be very specifically measured though and I cannot seem to find any explicitly for a prius c. Was wondering if anyone else has found good ones?
