Police in Moscow detained several dozen participants of an authorized rally and march commemorating those killed in 1993 during the storming of the White House. The rally was organized by the Communist Party.

SOTAvision published video of the march showing a group of young people chanting "No to political repression" and "Remove the party of crooks and thieves."

The outlet reports that other slogans included "We want freedom," "Remove Roskomnadzor," and "Freedom for political prisoners." OMON officers began detaining those chanting the slogans. According to former Communist Party Moscow City Duma deputy Yevgeny Stupin, the slogan "Remove the Tsar!" was the reason for the mass detentions.

According to an SOTAvision correspondent, around 20 people were detained in total. Ostorozhno, Moskva also published video of the detentions. The outlet reported that around 60 people were detained, including activists from the Communist Party and Yabloko. Yabloko, however, stated that the party "does not have information about the participation of party members in the Communist Party rally in Moscow or their detention by police" and that the information was "being spread by people who have no relation to the Yabloko party."

The authorized rally took place at Krasnopresnenskaya Zastava Square, where Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov spoke. Initially, five police vans and a patrol car were stationed there. According to SOTAvision, the first detentions began right at the square, where law enforcement officers pulled several young people with Russian and GDR flags from the crowd.

On October 4, 1993, special forces and Russian army units stormed the Supreme Soviet building in Moscow, known as the White House, where lawmakers opposed to President Boris Yeltsin were located. According to official figures, 74 people were killed on October 4, including 26 military and Interior Ministry personnel, and 172 were wounded. More than 150 people were killed in total, according to official figures, most of them civilians.
The events were described by the Russian authorities at the time as preventing an attempted coup and "a communist revanche," while their opponents characterized them as a successful coup. The previous Constitution was terminated and a new one was adopted, strengthening presidential powers.
Authorized rallies in Moscow are now extremely rare. A city government ban on such events, introduced because of the long-ended pandemic, remains in effect. The Communist Party holds commemorative events every year on October 3-4.
