where to buy extra batteries? original sony batteries will cost me more than 30 usd and I don’t think I wanna spend that amount for extra batteries for my mk1. What brands are you guys using? I have found OEM ones that looks like the second picture for around 13 usd and other brands like wasabi is around that price range as well. Any thoughts?
Guess I'm an idiot, thanks Cicero.
Today, I bought my fourth RX100 since 2016.
Storytime :
(TL;DR : I'm a moron who can't take care of his stuff.)
My first one, a MK4, lived a good life. However, it didn't survive the lingering freezing fog it encountered during one of my december ultra cycling rides in the Western Flanders, Belgium. Instant death. RIP 2019.
The second one, a MK6, travelled quite a lot. One day, though, as I was riding my bike on Hollywood Boulevard with friends, I hit a plastic bollard while riding hands free with my back turned to the road and shooting with my eye in the viewfinder. The crash, straight on the extended lens, bent it out of alignment but it managed to survive for another week, on the condition that I pryed out the lens by hand, producing a horrible cracking sound every time. It finally expired on the flight back home. RIP 2023.
The third one, a MK7, followed me in quite a few road trips but was heavily hurt during a fall from my pocket 2 weeks ago in the far North of Sweden. The screen was smashed but the camera was still working well... Until my hike up Svartisen glacier where it encountered RX100's most mortal enemy : COLD FOG. A few days later, oxydation had done it's job and the motherboard had expired. RIP 2026.
The new one, a MK6 (I never shoot video so the Mk7 was overkill) has gone to quite a few trips with its previous owner. However, it will probably die in a couple of years when I faceplant somewhere in the mountains of northern Spain, or fall ass first in a Slovenian river.
Why do I make the same mistake over and over again ? Because the RX100 has replaced all my previous gear (Nikon F100 and F5, D70, D300, D3) and I never looked back. The colour dynamic is unparalleled and I wouldn't be able to live without it. Plus, the form factor is perfect. Also perfect to just drop it by accident but we don't talk about it.
Looking forward to post an update here to say how and when I kill this one. 🥲
Ive attended night 2 & 3 and will be attending night 5! Here are the photos I took so far! I dont gate keep, I love the XO community so heres a link to my photos via Google Photos. Feel free to use and post them as you wish😊 More to be added as I shoot, cull and edit. Link here: AHTD Tour Wembley 2026
I love doing portraits, here's my first post. All my photos are taken with the same camera, an RX100 M3.
Got the chance to take my RX 100 VII to San Francisco for a day walking around. Took this shot in Chinatown. Post-processed for color and detail. At 200mm to achieve compression of the background.
Bought a used one and it had this issue. It would turn on / extend lens by itself when i didnt even touch it at random times. Googled online and it's a common issue w/ these.
How about yall? Does this happen to you?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently going through a bit of a camera crisis and would love to hear your thoughts or similar experiences.
My Gear Journey So Far:
I started with a Sony a6000, which I loved, but eventually sold it to get the Fuji X-M5 for its built-in film simulations.
Half a year later, I traded the X-M5 (via MPB, losing a bit of money, of course 😅) for a Lumix S9. I wanted to fulfill my long-time dream of owning a Full-Frame camera with custom LUT capabilities.
The Current Dilemma:
While the Lumix S9 is amazing, I find myself leaving it at home more often than I’d like because of its size and weight. Just recently, I was out walking my dog, spotted a deer, and was super annoyed that I didn’t have a camera on me.
Now I’ve been looking into the Sony RX100 VII on social media, and I’m seriously thinking about selling the S9 to get the RX100 VII purely for the portability factor.
Before making another trade (and losing more money), I have a few specific questions for RX100 VII owners or anyone who has made a similar switch:
Has anyone gone through a similar journey (scaling down from Full-Frame to a 1-inch compact sensor) and enjoyed the change, or did you regret it?
Noise performance: How bad is low light / high ISO noise on the 1-inch sensor in real-world use?
Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) JPEGs: How are the colors straight out of the box?
Veres Deni Alex Film Simulations: Has anyone used these picture profiles on the RX100 VII? How well do they emulate film, especially compared to Fuji or Lumix LUTs?
Ergonomics & Handling: Is the body too small, or is it manageable for daily use?
Context: I mainly shoot my family, street/cityscapes, and nature.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice!
Total beginner here. I know they’re not 10/10, but I had a peaceful and fun time. Wanted to share!
What a city! Grateful I got to capture it on my RX100 VII.
Just got an RX100 VII used in excellent condition and was wondering what settings everyone has been using on their camera? im not talking ISO, shutter or aperture, more so these:
file format - do you save both raw and jpeg for photos? or choose one or the other?
what aspect ratio do you use?
do you shoot videos in 4k or HD?
record setting / frame rate / quality (fine vs extra fine)
for insight, i will be using this camera mostly for travel, concerts, and taking video snippets which i will then turn into a longer form video for posting on youtube. and would love to make sure i get the most out of the camera for what it offers. i have two 128gb sd cards and as of right now only one battery but i do plan on purchasing back ups. any advice helps!
Budget: Ideally less than $600 all-in with accessories-- but I'm willing to spend a little more if there's a really compelling reason. See notes below.
Country: US
Condition: Either new or used, although my first trip leaves September 7, so I don't have a ton of time to buy resale from eBay and worry about it being shipped to the US on time.
Type of Camera: Point and shoot
Intended use: Just photography
End use: Social media / small prints
Photography style: Street, landscape, travel
What features do you absolutely need: I'm a total beginner, so I'm not really sure! I’d love advice on what features actually matter for what I'm trying to do. Portability and good image quality are probably the biggest things.
What features would be nice to have: Again, I'm open to recommendations here. I really love the look of the photos I've seen from the Sony RX100 VII and would like something that can produce that kind of image quality/look without necessarily spending that much.
Portability: Very portable. Ideally pocketable or small enough that I won't think twice about bringing it hiking/backpacking. I don't want to buy a camera that ends up staying in my hotel because it's too bulky.
Cameras you're considering:
Cameras you already have: None
Notes:
I have a bunch of once-in-a-lifetime travel coming up - hiking trips, vacations, etc. - and want to invest in a camera, but I'm a total beginner. I've basically only used my phone, so I don't want something that's unnecessarily complicated, but I'm also willing to learn.
My biggest dilemma is whether the RX100 VII is actually worth the extra money for a beginner, or whether I'd be perfectly happy with something cheaper. I feel a little guilty about cheaping out ahead of these trips and then regretting it, but I also don't want to spend $1000+ on a camera when there might be a $400–600 option that would accomplish basically everything I need.
For hiking/backpacking in particular, I'm wondering whether I should prioritize something even smaller/lighter. At the same time, I really don't want to sacrifice too much image quality just for portability.
I'm also very open to a camera I haven't considered! If there's something else in the ~$600 range (or even a little above) that would be a better fit for what I'm describing, I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks!!
Sold out everywhere or nearly 2000 on amazon😭 nothing on Facebook marketplace in southern Ontario. has anyone had any luck??
Does anyone know of a reputable place to get a camera repaired? The recommended business for my area is closed down. Willing to ship Canada wide.
Physical damage to flash (my partner put in a backpack). Everything functions fine aside from the flash not working.
Thank you !

Okay so the thing is, i am complete beginner and this is probably going to be first camera ever, at first i wanted to get something like the ixus series from canon, then I came across the sony rx series, and a found a really good deal in my city for around 20k pre negotiation, was wondering if that is worth the price, because i am looking for a compact point and shoot
I want to mount a permanent Black Mist filter on my Sony RX100 VII while still being able to use the pop-up flash from time to time.
Everything on AliExpress seems to be either
52mm stick-on adapter: Too bulky, ends up blocking the flash.
Magnetic setup: Knocks right off whenever the camera goes into a pocket or bag.
Is there really no adhesive 39mm or 40.5mm threaded adapter for the front lens ring so I can just screw on a compact, permanent filter? Seems so obvious, but I can't find one anywhere.
Please help me I wanna hear your thoughts. I bought this second hand RX100 m1 on ebay for 300 usd. I initially thought that the lens dust on the picture is just outside the camera and is easily cleanable since it is not mentioned on the description that it has that issue. However, when I asked the seller, she said that it is inside the camera lens and it is not easy to clean. She did not put it in the description because it doesn’t affect the performance (which I really doubt). The item is already shipped so I can’t cancel it already.
What are your thoughts about this? Is camera lens dust really not an issue? Should I just return to get a refund (although I will lose about 75 usd because of the import taxes I paid aside from the product itself)? Can I clean this dust instead?
Rx100Va on the Island "Île Sainte-Marguerite" just beneath Cannes, France
altough this camera has "only" 20mp I love to crop and compose in 64:24 which gives 10mp results but I'm just so in love with the texture and the lens that I don't care and I'll still print it out big
anyways just wanted to share...
wish you a good time shooting!
