Reagent test results: suspected mescaline vs. known reference. Need a second opinion.

Hi everyone,

I was offered a powder sold to me as mescaline. Since real mescaline is fairly rare, I wanted to verify it with reagent tests before doing anything else. To have a baseline, I ran the same tests on a sample of mescaline I know to be genuine.

Here is the layout of the main photo:

•	Top row = the unknown sample (“mescaline”)
•	Bottom row = the known, genuine mescaline (reference)
•	Left to right in both rows: Marquis, Mecke, Froehde

One thing that already made me cautious: the seller recommended starting the unknown sample at 100 mg. In my own experience, mescaline needs roughly 300 to 400 mg for a full experience, so a suggested starting dose that low feels off to me. To my mind that is a possible red flag that this might not actually be mescaline but something considerably more potent (for example a 2C-x or DOx compound), where 100 mg would be a very different and potentially dangerous proposition.

I also ran a second test using Simon’s reagent on both samples. Result: both came out dark grey, with no blue coloration. My understanding is that Simon’s reacts with secondary amines (turning blue), and that mescaline as a primary amine should be Simon’s negative. So the absence of blue is at least consistent with mescaline and argues against a secondary amine like MDMA in both samples. The fact that the unknown behaves the same as my known reference here is somewhat reassuring. That said, I do not think it rules out a more potent primary amine compound, which would still fit the unusually low 100 mg recommendation.

A few specific things I am wondering about:

•	Do the color reactions of the unknown sample match the reference closely enough, or are there differences in hue, intensity or how fast the color developed?
•	Is dark grey (rather than colorless or pale) a normal Simon’s result for genuine mescaline in your experience?
•	Given the low recommended dose, does anything in the unknown row point toward a more potent compound rather than mescaline?
•	Does the combined picture (Marquis, Mecke, Froehde, Simon’s plus the 100 mg dose recommendation) change your read at all?

I am aware that reagent tests only indicate substance classes and say nothing about purity, dose or adulterants, so I am treating this as one data point, not a final answer. Given the dosing mismatch, I am inclined to get lab based drug checking before considering anything else, and I am open to that route.

Photos attached. Thanks a lot for taking a look.

how would someone test a xanax bar for fent with a fent strip if it is not water soluble, nor can be crushed up?

hypothetically if someone wanted to test this (only strictly using it as a last resort trip killer for a psych trip, not to use it recreationally),
how can the test be accurate it

  1. it is not water soluble
    and
  2. it can it be crushed up at all due to how solid the press is
    ??

can the test be accurate?

Adderall Test Result Interpretation Help Please

Hi - first time testing Adderall 20mg orange pill with the reagents. I thought the Mecke test was clear and the color was just from the pill (indicating amphetamine) but judging by the reaction with the Simons A+B it seems like that it is not the case and it is meth. Just need a sanity check. Thanks in advance!

Odd Liebermann Results I’ve never seen before with Ketamine

never seen this before! little black/brown flecks when testing liebermann on a sample of ketamineZ does anyone know what it might mean?

morris came out perfectly purple. 🤔🧐

Am I allowed to post a picture of a pill before testing?

Honest question. I don’t want to get banned. I didn’t see anything specifically against it in the community rules. I just got a dancesafe test kit, which I will be using. I just thought maybe someone else already had experience with this specific MDMA pill.

Hear me out! Frozen spot plates!

Is it possible, if I am able to maintain freezer conditions, to sell microkits of Substance-Specific reagent testing plates?

Some people I try to turn onto reagents complain the initial start up cost is too high. They'll drop $350 on an eighth of coke but won't buy a $70 Cocaine adulterants and contamination test kits.

Enter my idea: dropping enough Reagent into a non-reactive plastic spot plate well for a substance specific panel. Then I'd cover and freeze each of these single use take-home tests.

Sell to customers to take home, allow to thaw on their way home, and then peel and test.

I also speculate that peel open blister wells might be a good idea of freezing isn't stable enough to rely on, but that introduces the headspace inside the reagent container issue.

They can reuse the HPDE plastic spot plates in the future if they buy full sized reagent bottles and it lowers the cost to people unwilling to buy the full spectrum adulterants kits.

I haven't tested this yet and would never sell this product without a legitimate expert review. I'm just wondering if frozen single sample testing plates are possible and effective.

I'll scrap this idea in an instant if the science and safety doesn't add up.

Why is TN Scientific less than Ideal?

I need to order thousands of glass bottles of reagent in the next few months, and it's really hard to find domestic suppliers that will sell me reagent inside glass at scale that's not TN Scientific.

I'm also freezing some reagents for longer than 6 months storage, so I am adverse to plastic 5ml bottles if I can use glass.

Everyone describes TN Scientific as less desirable than Bunk Police and Dance Safe.

I understand that Bunk Police is the community gold standard in reputation, and Dance Safe is a nonprofit.

But the main criticism I hear of TN Scientific is just that their colorimetric charts are inferior to other charts. But does anyone doubt the quality of their Reagents?

I'm not loyal to TNS, I just need to find as much data as I can find if I might use them as a bulk supplier or decide not to.

LSD Hofman Test Result Help

I'm looking for clarification on my Hofman test result for presumed acid. I tested it in a the plastic vial that came with my kit, but it was difficult to get a good photo of. Thus, I poured the test onto a white piece of paper, which I observed no change in color. I purchased a ceramic test basin to avoid this in the future, but I digress.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this result. As the guide shows, it should be a blue color, but when I tested a whole tab of mine, it appears more purple.

Important to note, the second photo shows the tabs themselves, which are blue gel tabs. So, as one might presume, the color may be thrown off. Additionally, I allowed the tab to dissolve in the reagent for approximately 2 hours prior to this photo, as I got no reaction until the gel broke down a bit. Anyone have any advice of what to make of this result?

I also ran ab Ehrlich and it tested positively purple. I also tried the Marquis, which I determined to be inconclusive due to the color change as well.

Is this okay for MD? / do I need more than 3 reagents

Never used the crystal reagents before, right is Marquis, middle is Froehde, left is Mecke

Pretty certain this is MDMA, got slightly concerned because Mecke is dark turquoise for heroin and that’s pretty similar to a greeny/black

I’m also curious is this is enough tests? Like has this determined there’s no amphetamines or no?
