Quiet hang out spots

What are some good, quiet hang out spots in red deer? Can be inside or outside. Just want a place where I can read or hang out with one or two friends.

Hi there,
We are conducting a research study on the systemic and structural factors that impact paramedics and firefighters in terms of overdose response. If you are a paramedic or firefighter from Alberta (Calgary, Edmonton, and rural regions) and are willing to participate, please email avery.sapoznikow@ucalgary.ca if you are interested. Poster attached. and more information below.

Thank you!

-------------

Purpose of the study:

The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the systemic and structural factors that impact first responders in the context of overdose response. This includes how policy, workplace practices, standard protocols, etc. impact the work of first responders during overdose response.

Why is this research important?

Canada is currently experiencing a toxic drug poisoning epidemic. Individuals are overdosing at higher rates than ever before, often with treatment resistant overdose syndromes and a recurrent cycle of repeated overdoses. First responders are at the frontlines of managing the consequences of this epidemic. In general, first responders experience higher rates of burnout, stress, and mental health symptoms than the general population. Within the context of the toxic drug poisoning epidemic, these rates are even higher, resulting in more instances of stress-leave, widespread compassion fatigue, and the expansion of roles and expectations of first responders

What happens to my information?

All information gathered during interview will be reviewed multiple times - first review will confirm the accuracy of transcripts to the audio recordings, second review will anonymize all identifiable information (e.g., names, addresses, locations, irrelevant details of overdose response incidents, etc.) so as to ensure privacy and confidentiality, and a third review will begin data analysis (coding and aggregation of data) using my methodology. All data is stored on a secure cloud-based storage system controlled by the University of Calgary, with access restricted to myself and supervisor. Participants can choose to withdraw their participation at any point up to two weeks following participation, after which the data will be anonymized and not possible to be matched to a specific participant.

Business opportunities

We are looking to open a business- very sure on opening a cafe.
For anyone who has been to Mokha Cafe in Edmonton, that’s the vibe we’re looking to go with. Somewhere to relax, work, or study and socialize.

There are more than 20 of those cafes all around Edmonton now and we are looking to see if Red Deer would appreciate or even need something of this sort.

Any advise or suggestion on location, pricing or literal anything would be greatly appreciated.
Even if it’s just a simple “don’t do it”

Thank you in advance!

Service Research: Drone Video Offering

Hi all,

How much are you willing to pay for:

  1. Aerial video recording for a photograph session? Let's say the drone will record a video (or videos) of the person/couple/family during a photo session? The drone will hover in pre-set locations (4 to 5) and focus on the person/couple/family. No edit will be made, just raw data, and it will probably take 10 minutes or more (depending on drone battery).

1.1 If a video edit needs to be offered as well, the price will be higher than just the raw data.

  1. Aerial video recording of the house, property, or anything that the person owns. Same thing as item 1, just raw data, and if an edit needs to be done, it needs to be at a higher price.

The initial cost should not be too much, being honest, because it is something autonomous and may take around 10 minutes or more, also, it may not happen due to weather conditions, so to avoid any headaches, I was thinking for something around $30 to $50, where $30 is for around 10 minutes and $50 no more than 30 minutes, without any edition, just raw data.

  1. Aerial photographs of the house, property, or anything that the person owns, and print a 3D model of it on a desk size (minimal, maybe 6 inches by 6 inches). Likely more expensive service because it depends on the size of what is being pictured: hundreds of pictures will likely need to be built to create an accurate 3D model, and the printing time will be longer. Probably it will start at around $100 for a small project (a single house).

This will not be a full-time service, just a side hustle.

TIA.

Any wood working spaces for someone just starting?

Hi, I'm in my 30s and live in Penhold just south of Red Deer. I live in a 4plex and don't have access to any sort of space where I can make things with wood. I don't have a lot of woodworking experience, but I have a little and I really want to make myself a computer desk and a dining room table from pallet wood. I have the pallets, but I don't have any tools or a space. I want to learn the craft and possibly get good enough to start selling pieces, but I'm limited by lack of equipment and space. Does anyone know of any maker spaces, or anywhere I can rent a space with equipment available?

Moving to red deer

I’m looking to move with my toddler for work. How bad is the crime? Is the city still family friendly? Can we still do family friendly stuff outdoors or are parks generally filled with homelessness/addicts/dirty? How true are the things people say about red deer?

Any teen jobs in Red Deer?

Where do teens find jobs in Red Deer and are there any facilities that are willing to hire teenagers? Indeed isn’t really the best at actually filtering out jobs tbh. Thanks!

Course thoughts?

So I’m planing a move to Canada red deer to be specific I am a Canada citizen, but I’m in a welding apprenticeship in another country don’t wanna doxx myself so it remains a mystery.
But I plan on studying criminology and with my qualifications from another country and leaving my apprenticeship with only my college qualifications I fear I may find it hard to get into my chosen college I would like to fall back on welding as I am decent I can certainly put a weld down no problem it’ll look decent and will hold.
So I suppose my question is how competitive is the criminology course and how hard would it be for me to find someone who will give me a shot at welding to show them what I can do and that I’m willing to take a pay cut given I’m not a tradesman.
