How a Clean Factory Daytona 126506 Made Me a Millionaire

Shitpost Saturday | A Malaysian Horological Success Story

Gather around, fellow degenerates, horological elitists, movement inspectors, and gentlemen who spend three hours arguing over whether a rehaut engraving is misaligned by 0.02 millimetres. Put down your loupes. Close those QC albums. Stop zooming into the sixth marker of somebody else's watch like you're investigating the assassination of JFK.

I'm about to tell you how a Clean Factory Daytona 126506 Ice Blue, purchased from Ficotime and maintained by Onagerchrono in Malaysia, turned an ordinary Malaysian corporate employee into a millionaire. Well, theoretically. But we'll get to that.

It all started with a very simple dream. I wanted a Rolex. Not just any Rolex. I wanted the Daytona 126506. The platinum one. Ice-blue dial, chestnut-brown ceramic bezel, and enough wrist presence to suggest that my family had been extracting petroleum from the South China Sea for three generations.

There was something intoxicating about that watch. The way the ice-blue dial caught the light. The weight of the platinum. The subtle confidence of a timepiece that costs more than what some Malaysians put down on their first house. It wasn't merely a watch. It was a declaration. A declaration that I had made it in life.

Unfortunately, my bank account had not received the same declaration. At the time, I was just another Malaysian corporate employee grinding away in account management, negotiating commercial agreements, managing clients, attending meetings that could have been emails, and pretending that quarterly performance targets were a perfectly reasonable reason to develop hypertension.

Six years in the corporate trenches had taught me many things. How to negotiate. How to read people. How to remain professionally composed while someone explains a problem they personally created.

But most importantly, it taught me that looking successful and actually being successful were two very different financial commitments. Nevertheless, I wanted that Daytona. So naturally, like any responsible adult considering a luxury purchase, I began researching the genuine article. Big mistake.

The first time I saw the market price of a platinum Daytona, I genuinely thought someone had accidentally added an extra zero. I refreshed the page. The zero remained. I checked another website. More zeros. At one point, I stopped looking at watches and started comparing property listings in Selangor.

Apparently, for the price of a platinum Daytona, I could either have a watch that tells me it's 3:45 PM or make a very respectable contribution towards owning an actual building. A building. With walls. And plumbing. And potentially rental income. The Rolex, meanwhile, would tell me it's 3:45 PM. Admittedly, with extraordinary precision and craftsmanship. But still. 3:45 PM.

I considered visiting an authorised Rolex boutique. Perhaps, I thought, there was something magical about the experience. Maybe the sales associate would explain the craftsmanship, share the heritage, and help me understand why I should exchange a substantial portion of my financial future for 40 millimetres of Swiss engineering.

Then I discovered the concept of an allocation. Apparently, walking into a Rolex boutique with money doesn't necessarily mean you're qualified to buy the Rolex you want. You need a relationship. Purchase history. Loyalty. Possibly a recommendation letter from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

I imagined the conversation.

"Good afternoon, sir. How may I assist you?"

"I'd like to purchase the platinum Daytona."

"Certainly, sir. May I ask about your purchase history?"

"Well, I've purchased several Casios."

"Sir, please leave."

And that was when I realised something profound. I wasn't merely too poor to buy the watch. I was too poor to be allowed the privilege of buying the watch I was too poor to buy. Extraordinary business model. So I did what any financially frustrated Malaysian man with an internet connection would do. I opened Reddit.

And gentlemen, that was the beginning of my descent into the wonderful, morally questionable, financially liberating rabbit hole known as r/RepTime. At first, I was sceptical. People were discussing factories like they were classified military installations.

Clean Factory. VSF. BTF. Movement codes. Dial printing. SEL gaps. Crystal clarity. Somebody posted a picture of a watch and seventeen grown men began debating whether the chronograph hand was leaning slightly to the left. One gentleman had apparently spent his entire Sunday measuring the distance between two letters on a dial. Another rejected a watch because a microscopic engraving looked suspicious under 20x magnification. I thought these people were insane.

Three weeks later, I was doing exactly the same thing. That's when I discovered the Clean Factory Daytona 126506. And more importantly, Ficotime. I remember looking at the pictures. Ice-blue dial. Brown ceramic bezel. Daytona chronograph layout.

The unmistakable appearance of a watch that belonged on the wrist of someone who referred to RM100,000 as "a little liquidity." Except this one didn't require RM100,000. Or RM200,000. Or an awkward conversation with my wife about why our family would suddenly be eating Maggi for the next eighteen months.

I began doing the mathematics. The genuine platinum Daytona could command hundreds of thousands of ringgit. The Clean Factory version? A tiny fraction of that. My brain immediately identified what I believed was the greatest arbitrage opportunity in modern financial history. Same visual confidence. Approximately 99% less financial destruction.

I contacted Ficotime. Made my enquiries. Examined the QC photographs with the intensity of a forensic investigator reviewing evidence in a high-profile murder trial. Was the dial aligned? Was the bezel correct? Were the subdials acceptable? Was the ice blue sufficiently icy? I had never scrutinised my own employment contract this carefully. Eventually, I gave the green light.

GL. Two letters. One decision. And potentially the beginning of my financial independence. Then came the waiting. Every day, I checked the tracking information. Every morning, every afternoon, every evening. I knew the parcel's location more accurately than I knew the location of some of my relatives.

When it finally arrived in Malaysia, I felt something I hadn't experienced since receiving my first annual performance bonus. Hope. I opened the package. Removed the protective wrapping. And there it was. My Daytona 126506. I picked it up. The dial was beautiful. The ceramic bezel caught the light. The chronograph pushers looked purposeful. And although the case was not actually platinum, my imagination had already assigned it the emotional weight of a small Swiss bank vault.

I put it on my wrist. Looked in the mirror. And suddenly, something changed. I was no longer a corporate employee with expensive hobbies. I was a corporate employee with expensive-looking hobbies. An important distinction.

The next morning, I wore it to a meeting. Normally, I'd walk into a commercial negotiation thinking about targets, margins, client expectations, and whether the other party was about to ask for another unreasonable concession. Not that morning. That morning, I walked in with the confidence of a man who had just sold his third company to a sovereign wealth fund. The client began discussing commercial terms. I rested my left wrist on the table. The ice-blue dial caught the fluorescent lighting. I noticed him glance at it. Or perhaps he was looking at the PowerPoint remote beside my hand. Irrelevant.

In my mind, the negotiation was already over. He was dealing with a man wearing what appeared to be a platinum Daytona. A man who looked like he could afford to walk away from a six-figure contract. A man whose wrist suggested substantial offshore holdings. Did he know the watch was from Clean Factory? No. Did he know it came from Ficotime? Absolutely not. Did he know I had spent the previous evening calculating whether my credit-card cashback could cover next month's petrol? Thankfully, also no. I leaned back in my chair.

"Let's revisit the commercial structure," I said calmly.

And for the first time in my professional life, I felt like I wasn't negotiating from desperation. I was negotiating from Monaco. Metaphorically, of course. I was still in Malaysia, where the meeting-room air conditioner was struggling and somebody had forgotten to replenish the mineral water. But psychologically? Monaco. Now, did the Daytona magically improve my closing rate? Of course not. I still needed to understand my clients, negotiate intelligently, and deliver actual commercial value. But there was something fascinating about the confidence it gave me.

I stopped treating every negotiation like I needed the other party's approval. I began thinking more carefully about value. Margins. Leverage. Long-term opportunities. And eventually, a dangerous thought entered my mind. What if I could apply the same logic to money? Think about it. I wanted a genuine platinum Daytona. I didn't buy one. Instead, I purchased a Clean Factory version.Which meant I had avoided spending an absolutely ridiculous amount of money. That money, theoretically, could be invested. Into equities. Into businesses. Into income-producing assets. Into something that actually compounded instead of sitting on my wrist telling me the date. And that's when the imaginary millionaire started becoming a little more ambitious.

I began treating my spending decisions like investment decisions. Every unnecessary luxury purchase became a question. "Would I rather look wealthy today, or actually become wealthy tomorrow?" A surprisingly reasonable question coming from a man wearing a counterfeit Swiss chronograph. I became more interested in investments. More interested in building additional income streams. More interested in business opportunities beyond my corporate salary. I started imagining what would happen if I redirected the money I might otherwise spend chasing luxury into assets that could eventually pay for those luxuries.

The irony was magnificent. A fake Rolex had somehow inspired a genuine interest in financial independence. Of course, my financial awakening wasn't entirely smooth. There were complications. For example, my Daytona eventually needed some attention. Now, a normal person might look at a replica watch and think, "Well, it's only a replica." Not me.

I had developed an emotional attachment to this thing. It wasn't merely a watch anymore. It was a symbol of my transformation from financially irresponsible enthusiast to financially irresponsible enthusiast with a spreadsheet. So I turned to Onagerchrono in Malaysia. Because apparently, even my imaginary platinum empire required a professional maintenance department. I approached the servicing process with the seriousness of a man sending a vintage Paul Newman Daytona to Geneva.

I wasn't simply maintaining a replica. I was preserving an asset. An asset whose greatest value, admittedly, existed almost entirely inside my head. When the watch came back from maintenance, I strapped it on and admired it again.

Still beautiful. Still ice blue. Still not platinum. But now properly cared for. And that evening, while staring at my wrist, I had the most extraordinary financial revelation of my life. I opened my calculator. Let's say a genuine platinum Daytona would have cost me RM500,000. My Clean Factory Daytona cost only a small fraction of that. Therefore, by not buying the genuine watch, I had avoided spending nearly half a million ringgit. Interesting. Very interesting.

Then I remembered that I also hadn't bought a Lamborghini. Another million or so preserved. I hadn't bought a Richard Mille (I got it later lmao). More money saved. I hadn't purchased a penthouse in Kuala Lumpur. Several million preserved. I hadn't acquired a private jet. Tens of millions saved. I sat there in stunned silence.

Holy shit. I was rich. Not just rich. Spectacularly rich. I had somehow accumulated a theoretical fortune simply by not purchasing things I couldn't afford. Warren Buffett had spent decades mastering value investing. Charlie Munger had devoted his life to rational capital allocation. I had discovered an entirely new school of economics.

Aggressive Non-Purchasing Wealth Accumulation.

The principle was simple. If you don't buy a RM500,000 watch, you've saved RM500,000. If you don't buy a RM2 million supercar, you've saved RM2 million. If you don't buy a RM100 million yacht, congratulations, you're now worth RM102.5 million.

I immediately considered writing a book. The Psychology of Not Spending Money You Never Had. Potential bestseller. I was halfway through calculating my hypothetical net worth when my wife walked past.

"What are you doing?"

"Financial planning."

She looked at the calculator.

"Why does it say RM87 million?"

I looked at her confidently.

"Because I haven't bought a private jet."

She stared at me. For a very long time. Then asked the one question that would destroy my entire financial philosophy.

"Then why are you still waiting for payday?"

I closed the calculator. Some people simply aren't ready for advanced economics. But here's where the story takes an interesting turn.

Imagine, for a moment, that I actually followed through. Imagine I spent the next several years building businesses, investing consistently, reinvesting profits, and resisting the temptation to purchase luxury goods simply because I could. Imagine that the confidence I first borrowed from a replica Daytona gradually became confidence earned through real accomplishments. Not because of the watch. But because I finally understood that looking successful was considerably easier than becoming successful. And suppose, after years of commercial deals, business ventures, investment gains, setbacks, and an unreasonable number of Excel spreadsheets, my portfolio finally crossed RM1 million.

A genuine million. Not imaginary. Not theoretical. Not the accumulated value of yachts I had successfully avoided purchasing. Actual assets. Actual investments. Actual money. And throughout that journey, the same Clean Factory Daytona remained on my wrist. Purchased from Ficotime. Maintained by Onagerchrono. A modestly priced reminder of an extraordinarily expensive dream.

Now, the final scene. One afternoon, I walk into a Rolex boutique. The same sort of boutique that once made me feel like I needed to submit a curriculum vitae just to enquire about a watch. I'm wearing my Clean Factory 126506. The sales associate approaches.

"Good afternoon, sir. Welcome to Rolex."

"Good afternoon."

"May I compliment your Daytona? Beautiful piece."

"Thank you."

"Are you looking for anything in particular?"

I smile.

"Actually, I was interested in the platinum Daytona."

His expression changes.

"An exceptional choice, sir. Would you like us to discuss availability and purchase history?"

I look down at my wrist. The ice-blue dial glistens under the boutique lighting. I think about the years of work. The negotiations. The investments. The businesses. The money saved. The opportunities taken. And the ridiculous little watch that started the whole thing. Then I look back at the sales associate.

"Actually, no. I think I'm good."

He looks confused.

"But sir, surely you'd prefer the genuine platinum model?"

I smile again.

"Of course. It's a beautiful watch."

"Then may I ask why you're reconsidering?"

I take one final glance at the Daytona.

"Because the last time I wanted one of these, I couldn't afford it."

He nods sympathetically.

"And now, sir?"

"Now I can."

He smiles.

"Wonderful. Then perhaps we can—"

I gently interrupt him.

"But that's precisely why I don't need to."

Silence. The sort of silence usually reserved for profound philosophical revelations or somebody accidentally admitting their salary during a family gathering.

I thank him for his time. Turn around. And walk out of the boutique. Still wearing my Clean Factory Daytona. Still perfectly happy. And, in this completely fictional version of events, genuinely worth over RM1 million. As I walk away, I imagine the sales associate staring at the door, wondering how a man wearing a questionable platinum Daytona had just delivered a TED Talk on financial independence without purchasing anything. And somewhere in Switzerland, a Rolex executive sheds a single tear. Not because Rolex lost a sale. But because, for once, somebody with enough money to buy the watch decided he no longer needed it.

And that, gentlemen, is how a Clean Factory Daytona 126506 from Ficotime, maintained by Onagerchrono in Malaysia, made me a millionaire. Not because the watch was worth a million. Not because wearing it magically generated wealth. And certainly not because avoiding a purchase somehow deposits money into your bank account. But because it taught me something that took far too long to understand.

You can buy the appearance of wealth for a fraction of the price. But actual wealth still requires you to do the work.

Current net worth: xxxxxxxx

Wrist net worth: Allegedly half a million.

Confidence: Private banking client.

TL;DR: Not an advertisement. Bought a Clean Factory platinum Daytona from Ficotime, maintained it with Onagerchrono in Malaysia, discovered that not spending RM500,000 doesn't actually make you RM500,000 richer, and somehow convinced
