Breiðablik home fixture - 13th July - queries for football tourist
Morning all,
In Reykjavik from the 13th July, was hoping to go to the home Breiðablik fixture (copied and pasted the name from google).
Last time I went to Iceland, I got to see Valur. Ended up being a pay on entry thing, which was quite nice.
Had a couple of questions if anyone could help with answering.
-Where I would go to purchase tickets on the day (not 100% I can make it - 90%) - is there a ticket office at the facilitiy?
-Is there a store in the area where I can buy a jersey/similar? When I went to Valur, they told me I had to go to the Macron store for a jersey.
-What are the facilities like at the Breiðablik stadium? Are there any rules/laws around a beer in the stands like in English professional football?
-I'm considering getting the public bus - google maps suggest the No.2 bus from Rúgbrauðsgerðin and getting off at Smárar. How does the bus work? Would I need change or can I pay on card? Would I be able to get back in the evening after the fixture taking the bus?
Thank you in advance for any help.
Thanks,
Nick
Looking for friends in iceland
Hi everyone!
My girlfriend moved to Iceland a couple months ago from, and while she’s really enjoying living here, she’s finding it difficult to meet new people and make friends. I thought I’d try posting here to see if anyone might be interested in chatting or hanging out.
She’s 19, speaks english and is looking to find other women or friendly groups to hang out with.
We live in Akranes, she likes to bake and play games and she’s getting into taking walks aswell.
She’s mainly looking for good friendships and somebody to just hang out with from time to time. Moving to a new country can be lonely so i thought i’d make this post to hopefully help her find new people.
If you think you’d wanna help or if you know any groups or events that are good for meeting people, we’d like any suggestions
Thanks 😀
Student jobs in Reykjavik
Hi everyone,
I'm soon an international student studying IT in Reykjavik and I'm looking for a part-time student job. I only speak English (no Icelandic yet).
I've heard the job market in Reykjavik is pretty rough right now, especially if you only speak English. Is it still doable to find something within a few months? How long did it take you guys to find a student job?
Also, is there any chance of getting something in IT, or should I just aim for restaurants, shops, tourism etc. instead?
Any tips are welcome!
Hver setti leikföng á skilti í Reykjavík?
Veit einhver söguna bakvið leikföngin sem voru límd ofan á skilti í miðbænum fyrir nokkrum árum?
Minn uppáhalds er Grettir á Grettisgötu en það voru önnur leikföng á öðrum skiltum sem eru mörg farin núna
Long shot request for help - I left Hotel Ranga this morning and realize I left a pair of earrings in my room. Wondering if anyone might be traveling near or through there to Reykjavik today or tomorrow that could grab them and bring them? I’ll meet you wherever is convenient for you!
Thank you in advance!!!!
4 Day Solo Trip and Itinerary for Reykjavik and Around
I was in Iceland from June 18 to 22, 2026. I encourage women to do solo trip to Iceland! I have felt safe all the time. Met great people along the way. a/s/l > 46/Female/Turk from the USA (if important to know)
I had 4 full days in Iceland. Reykjavik was my hub.
June 18 - Landed in KEF early in the morning. Checked into the hotel. Stayed at CityHub (not knowing what kind of a hotel it was... strange hotel (you have to experience it to understand) but very central location, close to everything, clean, 24/7 host on site)
Walked around Reykjavik:
- Hallgrímskirkja - interesting architecture - went to the top of the tower for city views.
- There was a food truck close by - I ate pulled lamb in a hot dog bun. delicious.
- Sun Voyager - Beautiful sculpture on the waterfront.
- Harpa Concert Hall - One of Iceland's most iconic modern buildings. Went inside also.
- Old Harbour - walked around. there are food places.
- Sky Lagoon at 6pm - I wanted to experience at least one Lagoon. Since Blue Lagoon was too far to go, I picked Sky Lagoon. Everyone I talked to said Sky Lagoon is better than Blue Lagoon. Happy with my choice.
- Cafe Loki - when I travel, I prefer to eat the local food only. Cafe Loki does traditional Icelandic food. I went there two different days to try different things. Including their famous desert.
June 19 - Day Trip#1 - Golden Circle
I used "Your Day Tours" for this one (sister company with Arctic Adventures). I picked it because of the small size of the group (19 ppl max) Our tour guide Artur was Icelandic with great stories.
(need water proof clothing)
June 20 - Day Trip#2 - South Coast
I used "Your Day Tours" for this one. Our tour guide Alex was Romanian immigrant with great info on the Iceland and shared his own experiences as someone who has been living there over 10years.
(need water proof clothing)
June 21 - Day Trip#3 - Snæfellsnes Peninsula
I used "EastWest" for this one. Again they do small group tours. Our tour guide Slavi was Bulgarian immigrant (18 years in Iceland) who was extremely funny, provided a lot of good info about the places we have seen and personal stories over culture (shock) and ways of living there as well.
(didn't necessarily need water proof clothing for activities but rain coat got handy when it rained)
Had dinner at Reykjavik Fish Restaurant at Old Harbor.
(I have met a great group of people on this trip. There were 3 friends from Brussels, Belgium (one German, one Polish, one Colombian) (wish stayed connected) and a couple (Honduran gal and Turkish guy) (stayed connected)).
June 22 - leave from KEF
Here are some additional helpful info:
Airport Transfers - I scheduled these in advance using Flybus by Icelandia. From KEF they take you to the bus terminal (BIS), and from there a smaller bus takes you to a predefined stop close to your hotel. Reverse works the same way (from predefined bus stop to bus terminal and from there to KEF)
What to pack - I am proud of my outfit choices! 3 items absolutely necessary are waterproof hiking boots, waterproof pants, and rain coat! Sunscreen is a must as well. Swimsuit for the lagoon. Otherwise I did a lot of layering with tshirt, sweather, fleece jacket, etc.
Here is my packing list for this exact itenary:
- 1 waterproof rain jacket
- 1 fleece
- 2 long-sleeve tops
- 2 t-shirts
- 1 nicer dinner top
- 1 hiking pant
- 1 jeans/casual pant
- underwear/socks for 5 days
- waterproof walking shoes
- swimsuit
- sunglasses
- sleep mask (I didn't need it but you may)
- phone battery pack
- medications and chargers
Apps to use - I downloaded bunch of apps but only two apps I used were google maps for walking around in the city and Hopp for taxis.
Cash use - I never had to use cash or credit card. I paid with Apple Pay everywhere.
Totally unrelated but I discovered the Icelandic band Kaleo and can't listen to them enough at the moment :)
I hope this inspires you and/or helps with your trip to Iceland!
Silver Wavy Ring
Hey all! I know this is a long shot, but I was in Iceland in April and I bought a silver wavy ring from the sweetest lady. It’s my favorite ring and I wear it every day and today I noticed it was gone. It must have fallen off somewhere and I’ve retraced my steps all day. I’m hoping someone here knows what I’m talking about and would be able to send me another one. She was working as a street vendor somewhere on Austurstræti I believe? It was near the Posthus Food Hall and next to some other vendors selling hats and scarves. It was my only souvenir from one of the best weeks of my life and it would mean the world to me to replace it. The ring is a simple silver band that has a rounded wavy shape on one side.
If anyone knows what I’m talking about and would be willing to send it to me I’d be so happy to pay for it and whatever shipping would be. Thanks!
Moving here!
Hi, I'm freshly out of college in the US and just took a trip to Reykjavik and the surrounding area and I really have never been happier in my life than when I was there. I'm doing my best right now to find jobs there with LinkedIn but that only gets me so far, does anybody have any advice on obtaining a job in Reykjavik and even a visa? I truly need help, my family won't help me and I'm on my own with this, I just know I found where I need to be and I need to get back there. Any help would be appreciated! :)
Update: I'm now looking at renting a place late next month/early august for 1-2 months for a trial run to see if it IS all in my head!! And looking for jobs as well as looking into getting a hospitality certificate so i can work in the service industry!
KJALLARINN // Techno Event // Shuttle-Bus
Hey everyone!
We’re just over a week away from KJALLARINN at Miðbar, Selfoss, and the response has honestly been incredible.
One thing we didn’t expect to move this quickly was the shuttle bus back to Reykjavík after the event.
🚌 50% of the shuttle bus tickets are already gone.
The bus leaves 04:15 directly after the event, making it easy to enjoy the full night without worrying about getting home.
For those who haven’t heard about the event yet:
• 3 floors
• Hard Techno • Industrial Techno • Melodic Techno
• 7 artists
• Enhanced production
• Tattoo artist on-site
• Vintage/thrift pop-up
• VIP / Entourage area (80% SOLD OUT)
• Happy Hour from 18:00–20:00
We’re trying to build something different for Iceland—not just another club night, but an experience.
If you’re planning to come from Reykjavík, I’d recommend grabbing both your event ticket and shuttle ticket sooner rather than later.
Hope to see some of you there. 🖤⛓️
Does anyone in Reykjavik have a metal detector? I lost my wedding ring
I lost my wedding ring in a park in Reykjavik on Saturday (20th June 2026), or at least that's where I think it might be.
I see there was a similar post about three years ago, I'm hoping there has been a huge increase in detecting in the city since then!
I can pinpoint the area that I think I lost it fairly accurately, I went back to check a couple of days later, but the grass was quite long and I obviously had no luck finding it. If it is there, a detectorist should be able to find it pretty quickly.
It should go without saying that there is a huge amount of sentimental value to it, if anyone can help or knows of someone that can I'd be incredibly grateful.
Where to watch the World Cup in Reykjavík
I am here on vacation and want to watch the games! Looking for a pub type vibe or honestly anything playing it
Midgardur (Center Hotel) vs FossHotel 400 meters away
I am trying to decide between these two hotels for a 1 week stay this summer
Foss hotel is 25% more expensive
Are the rooms in the Foss nicer or larger? Which hotel would be better for a 1-week long stay
Both the rooms rates include the daily breakfast. Which hotel has a better breakfast?
Thanks
