A customer gave me this Rolex

So I have been doing work for a customer for a couple of years now and he was very appreciative of me helping him out all the time. So he told me he is going to give me something for always helping him. I told him not to worry about it because the work he gives me alone is a big help already But he insisted. So I met him a couple of weeks later and he gave me this Rolex watch. I know these are extremely expensive and I'm not really a watch guy so I thought it was probably fake but but I took it just for the generosity. Just wondering if any of you can confirm if it's real or just a replica. If it's fake I'm still going to were it regardless because it was a gift and all I mostly were are G shock watches lol.

A buddy of mine bought this Daytona a few years ago. I’m sure he assumes it’s correct. To me it’s a 116500 series, but it really shouldn’t have diamonds should it? It could even be fake. Godzilla spec didn’t option diamond dials did they. I guess it might be legit with a dial that has been changed?

My dads black and gold sub. I’m curious about the authenticity. I haven’t taken it in yet and thought I would share here.

Rolex Submariner in LA, where are people buying pre owned?

Long time lurker, finally buying. Sub is the one, no date if I can find it. What I've learned reading here is that the risk is parts, replaced inserts, service dials, aftermarket bracelets, and that most listings don't mention any of that. I can't open a case and check. So I want to buy from a shop in LA that does check and will tell me what's original. Does that place exist or am I describing something that doesn't ? Around 11k.

Worth Repairing?

Good morning! My Father in Law has a Rolex Datejust that was given to him for his wedding in 1984. About 20 years ago it was with him in a terrible car crash along with his 4 daughters. Everyone lived so that’s good. Is this watch worth the time and money to repair? Would like to get it functional again and see him wear it. Thanks!

[Rolex Polar or Omega Speedmaster]

Explorer II Polar vs. Speedmaster White for my 40th?
I’m turning 40 and can’t decide between the Rolex Explorer II Polar and Omega Speedmaster White Dial.
I love both and eventually plan to own both. The Rolex seems better for my lifestyle as an everyday watch—work, travel, pool, beach, etc.—but I love the history and look of the Speedmaster.
If you could only buy one first for a milestone birthday, which would you choose and why?

Real-world accuracy: Longines L888 vs Rolex and METAS Tudor movements

I wanted to share some real-world tracking data from my collection that completely flies in the face of "on-paper" watch specs.

We often talk about in-house movements, COSC, METAS, and elite certifications as the holy grail of precision. On paper, my Longines HydroConquest (Caliber L888) is easily the most "inferior" movement in my current rotation. It is built on an upgraded ETA architecture, beats at a lower 25,200 vph (3.5Hz) compared to the smooth 4Hz of the others, and doesn't carry elite Master Chronometer badges.

Yet, in the real world, it is absolutely destroying my heavy hitters.

I’ve been tracking my daily wear and box-rotation using Wristlog. Because I pull them out and manually wind them every single day to keep them at full power, they spend a good amount of time resting flat (Dial Up) in the box.

Here is how the real-world data stacks up against their official factory guarantees:

  1. Longines HydroConquest: +0.6 spd (Factory spec: Standard high-grade regulation, typically -5 to +15 spd)
  2. Tudor Black Bay 58: +1.3 spd (Factory spec: COSC/METAS 0 to +5 spd)
  3. Rolex Datejust 36: +1.6 spd (Factory spec: Superlative Chronometer -2 to +2 spd)
  4. Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT: +2.7 spd (Factory spec: METAS 0 to +5 spd)

Every single one of these watches is performing beautifully and well within their respective luxury parameters. Rolex's consistency is amazing, and both Tudors lean perfectly into that safe "never run slow" METAS zone.

But my entry-level luxury Longines—with its humble silicon hairspring and modified ETA roots—is running at a near-perfect +0.6 seconds per day.

It goes to show that you shouldn't judge a watch entirely by its spec sheet. A well-regulated, stable "workhorse" can absolutely hold its own against elite in-house calibres.

Has anyone else noticed their entry-level pieces outperforming their high-end luxury watches?
