She's a manipulator and deceives people but she was upfront about hurting his heart and trying to let him down kindly. He even said "If I am hurt by you it's because I chose to be"

Yes she did string him along in the beginning but maybe she didn't know how 0bese he was . The sign she wasn't interested in the beginning is when he was in the friend zone and she talked about other dudes to him.
