Anyone else's LADWP bill extremely crazy?

So, I am not unaware of the fact that I live in Woodland Hills, the hottest part of the valley. I am also not unaware that we have had an excessively hot month with no real break.

That being said, my bill seems outrageous. They say I am using 3400 kWh of energy. I live in a 1000 square foot townhome with 1 other person. We do have an EV, but we have had an EV for 2 years and never been this insane.

I have NEVER in my life hit tier 3 usage.

Looking for a trusted cleaning lady near Van Nuys!

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a cleaning lady/cleaner in the Van Nuys area. I’d really love to find someone you personally trust and have had a good experience with.

Ideally looking for someone reliable, thorough, and reasonably priced. If you have someone you highly recommend, I’d really appreciate their contact info and any details on pricing/frequency. Thank you so much!

Park along Tujunga Greenbelt & Pedestrian Bridge

Located at Coldwater Canyon and Burbank Blvd along the Tujunga Wash

With a walking path, fitness equipment, lighting, benches, picnic benches, trash receptacles and a hydration station. Plus parking.

Besides a board report from LA City Rec and park from 2022 there is little info I can find about this park. I don’t see it or the pedestrian bridge that crosses the Tujunga Wash even listed on the LA City Parks website. How new are these upgrades?

Happy 818 Day. What’s the most Valley thing about your Valley?

Realized this morning it’s 8/18 and figured this sub should mark it. Random thing I learned recently that I liked: the 818 has only existed since 1984. Before that everybody in LA was 213. And when it started, 818 covered the San Gabriel Valley too, they didn’t split off to 626 until 1997. So the area code we’ve built an entire identity around is younger than a lot of the people using it.

For me the most Valley thing is that there is still strong feeling of community here. My kids are at Kester and SOPNS with whole network of families at the drop-off that feels like a small town dropped into the middle of LA. People act like the Valley is where you end up when you can’t afford the other side of the hill and I think they’ve got it backwards. Anyway, there’s stuff going on tonight if anyone’s looking, CityWalk and Sherman Oaks Castle Park are both doing things, and apparently they’re unveiling the design for the Valley’s first Rose Parade float.

But mostly curious what everyone else would say. What’s the thing about living here that people from outside the 818 don’t get?

Why I think Angélica Dueñas is better for CA-29

With the election coming up on November 3, I’ve been looking more closely at both candidates, and I’m leaning toward Angélica Dueñas.

A few reasons:

Angélica refuses corporate PAC and AIPAC money. Luz Rivas accepts both and recently joined every Republican in voting to continue sending billions of dollars a year to Israel.

Angélica is focused on the everyday problems Valley families are dealing with, like rent, groceries, healthcare, childcare, and gas. Meanwhile, Luz has made AI one of her signature issues. Personally, I would rather have my representative focused on the cost of living than creating federal AI commissions.

Angélica has promised regular, in-person town halls where people can ask real, unscripted questions. Luz seems to stick mostly to carefully controlled Zoom events with scripted questions, sometimes without even appearing on camera.

Angélica is also a lifelong Valley resident, the daughter of immigrant factory workers, and a mother of five raising her family here. To me, she seems much more connected to what working families in CA-29 are actually going through.

I’m curious what everyone else in the Valley thinks. Who are you planning to vote for on November 3?

What’s it like to have an EV (for us, the IONIQ 5) without charging at home in SFV?

My wife is thinking about buying an IONIQ 5 as a family starter car. However, my car is already an EV, and we’re worried about being a double EV household. I charge at work, but she works remote.

For folks who live in homes without charging, do you find it annoying to have to figure out when/where to charge, or is there plenty of fast charging around here?

Just looking for some perspective! Thanks.

Mobile dog groomer; especially gentle for senior dog, NOHO/SFV?

Hello Angelenos!

I wondered if anyone might have a recommendation for a mobile dog groomer for my very senior dog?

She gets pretty stress out by car rides at this point so thought a mobile groomer that could come to my house might be preferred! She needs a good shampoo and trim and some cleanup around her eyes.

She’s gentle and calm but very old — has vision and hearing impairments) and sometimes has a little trouble with balance.

I was just hoping to find other folks who have older/special needs dogs that have used a mobile groomer they felt is especially gentle and attentive for dogs that might need a little extra care.

Thanks!

Patient Primary Doctor

Hi, I am looking for a patient primary doctor. Being rushed through an appointment when they have a 100 wpm makes me very anxious. I haven’t been to the doctor in over two years. I am a female 40. Any recommendations? Not interested in West Valley.

Why doesn't the city of LA offer "civil concessions" to those who volunteer/pick up trash/clean graffiti/do other needed stuff in LA?

Alright hear me out. We all know the city/state is broke. And we know there's tons of shit that needs to be done here especially in the SFV (trash/graffiti/weeds/etc). People always float around the idea of paying homeless people to clean up trash. But...

What if any able bodied person could get "civil/government coupons" for doing volunteer work on a contract basis for the city of LA?

Examples of concessions/coupons:

-A coupon for free auto registration for 1 year.

-A single "get out of jail free card" for a parking ticket/minor traffic violation where it gets dismissed immediately with no point on your record.

-One free expedited passport service.

-A 30 day sales tax exemption card for personal purchases (Up to $10,000 in exempted tax).

-Front of the line passes for walk in DMV transactions/courthouse/county clerk services.

-A free/expedited home construction/building permit.

-Free FastTrak/Express Lane Transponders

-$500 DMV gift card (that you can spend on license renewals/vehicle transfers/customized plates/boat and trailer reg/etc).

-$500 County Clerk's office Gift Card. (That you can spend on document filing.)

And I'm sure we could think of a million more things. These cost the government absolutely nothing (upfront). They only cost the government in unrealized profits (which aren't guaranteed anyway).

Imagine if you could go out one day and work with a crew of people picking up trash somewhere (similar to community service except its not with other potential convicts), volunteer at animal shelters, donate blood to the red cross (because of the blood shortage), do jury duty (instead of the ridiculous $12/day cash pay or whatever it is), volunteer at voting centers, cut overgrown weeds, remove graffiti, remove illegal signs on utility poles,

I think the city would be spotless if they actually did that.

Anyone know what’s opening in Granada Hills?

I’ve been noticing that the former Goldburger location in Granada Hills has been undergoing renovations. There’s even a fresh coat of paint. Anyone know if it’s a re-opening or something else is coming? 👀
