Change in Chemistry After Taking Film Out of Refrigerator
Hi all!
I was advised to put my Polaroid packs in the refrigerator, as it seems to be common to do so. I put my unexpired Polaroid film in the fridge (40 degrees Fahrenheit, about 4 degrees Celsius) for a little over a month now. Took them out yesterday and let them reach room temperature. I used one today (24 hours later) and this is the color that was developed (unable to show full image due to privacy reasons)
My SX-70 normally doesn’t take photos like this, nor did I ever get these kinds of colors when I wasn’t putting them in the fridge (see other Polaroid for reference). The film is usually consistent with the colors of the actual scene/subject and the camera settings.
For context: I live in New York City so the summers get quite hot and humid here; I do not consistently have my A/C on which is why I felt propelled to put them in the fridge.
A few questions:
Is the putting film in the fridge solely for expired Polaroid film?
The film was sat upright but I just read that it’s best to lay the packs flat. Could this be a potential issue?
When taking them out of the fridge and after waiting about 1-2 hours to warm up, would all film have to be used immediately?
Are there alternative ways of storing film that do not include putting it in the fridge? I’ve experienced this before in which the film chemistry led to inconsistent colors. Could it be the temperature in the fridge?
I’d appreciate any feedback from this community. Thank you so much for your time! :)
