Stolen Bike!!!

It’s my only form of transportation for work and college I genuinely have nothing else.

My bike got stolen today before 8PM, just outside of Northridge Mall…
I have a braided cable lock and my coworker showed it to me and it was cut in half with bolt cutters or something. I checked the bike rack outside of work and the bike was no longer there.

If anyone can give me some advice on what to do or who to contact that would also be helpful as well.

I genuinely don’t know what to do this is the first time it’s ever happened to me.

Police procession near Spreckels?

I was leaving Spreckels around 5:15 today and went by a procession of six CHP motorcycle cops and over two dozen cop cars from CHP, sheriffs and various Salinas Valley departments. They weren’t in a hurry. Looks like there were fire trucks with lights on near Spreckels FD too.
Anybody know what was going on? I’m assuming a funeral for a cop or firefighter?

Looking for short-term housing

Hi everyone! I’m moving to the area for a summer internship and am looking for short-term housing (around 3 months) from June to August. I’ll be working in Salinas, but I’m open to living in nearby towns too - ideally somewhere closer to the ocean and with things to do after work/weekends. I’m currently considering places like Monterey, Marina, Seaside, Pacific Grove, etc.

A little about what I’m looking for:

  • Budget: ideally under $2.5k/month
  • Looking for: 1BR, 1 Bath
  • Priorities: safe area, decent commute to Salinas (max 30 mins, ideally under 20), walkable or at least close to cafes/restaurants/beach/outdoor activities
  • Would love recommendations on:
    • neighborhoods to look into
    • apartment buildings/property managers
    • towns that make the most sense for someone in their 20s working in Salinas for the summer
    • areas to avoid

Would also appreciate advice on commute times between Monterey/Marina/Seaside and Salinas during work hours. Thank you!
