Here's what we've been seeing off Carolina Beach over the past week.

Nearshore Reef Fishing:
This has been the most consistent bite lately. Reef fishing has been producing quality gray trout, red drum, porgys, grunts, and plenty of sharks to keep things interesting. If your goal is steady action, this has definitely been the best option.

Spanish Mackerel:
Still a frustrating bite. The fish are here and can often be seen busting bait on the surface, but getting them to commit has been another story. Some days they'll give you a few opportunities, but overall it's remained a tough fishery despite all the visible activity.

Offshore:
Amberjack continue to keep anglers busy, with a few king mackerel showing up and the occasional mahi making an appearance.

Offshore Bottom Fishing:
Bottom fishing continues to produce well with solid catches of gag grouper, scamp grouper, grunts, and a good mix of snappers. If the weather allows you to get offshore, there's still plenty of opportunity to bring home a nice variety of fish.

Overall, reef fishing has been the most reliable option this week, while offshore trips continue to reward anglers who can get a weather window.

Has anyone else been finding those Spanish mackerel frustrating? They're feeding on the surface, but convincing them to bite has been a challenge.
