Urgent help with our sick cat

We have a cat that needs meds but we’re not experienced doing it. It’s becoming more stressful and we need help tonight and for the new few days.

Anyone have experience/is a vet tech who can help us (will pay of course). DM me please.

Thank you!

Written or video guide to Guatemalan food trucks

I recently discovered the cluster of Guatemalan places near Takahashi market. My Mexican food literacy doesn’t help much… and I’m not seeing an efficient process from travel pages or shorts for Guatemala. I also didn’t snap the menu of those trucks/restaurants, thinking it would be easy to recreate post facto

Wondering if someone has found a written or video guide that is efficient for what is available on that block in San Mateo

(After I get back from July 4th festivities I’ll commune again with Gemini to find sources to dig through, apologies if this question ended up being dumb to blast into Reddit)

San Mateo grocery store recommendations

Hi San Mateo neighbors, where do you usually buy groceries around here?

I’m looking for recommendations.

Ideally places with good produce, reasonable prices or hidden local favorites.

Would love to hear what stores you like and what each one is best for.

Driving school suggestions please

I have right hand driving experience and I’m looking for good driving schools to learn US left hand driving crash course and boost my driving confidence. I already got learner’s permit from the DMV. Any suggestions are welcome!

How is everyone finding a PCP these days?

Moved to the area recently and still haven't been able to get a primary care doctor. I've got some chronic things I need to stay on top of, but every place I call is either not accepting new patients or booked out for months.

Anyone in San Mateo had luck lately? Not sure what I'm missing.

(Already posted in a couple nearby subs, trying my luck here as well)

Does anyone know what’s up with the loud alarm near Hillsdale and 101?

It sounds like a burglar alarm and it goes off constantly. Is it the old Hillsdale Inn? I don’t mean to be a Karen or anything but it’s after midnight and it’s blaring insanely loudly and it goes off all the time. Does anyone know anything about it? Anyone to contact to look into it?

High stakes dining out (OC)

I read this article about a restaurant in Foster City putting some measures to avoid "children induced damages" and inspired me to draw this cartoon.

Better budget an extra 30% on your next dinner 😂

FREE community repair events! Repair Café of the Peninsula coming soon

Hi San Mateo neighbors! I'm excited to announce Repair Café of the Peninsula, a free series of community events where volunteers help people fix broken household items instead of throwing them away. Appliances, clothing, electronics, you name it! We'll try to fix it together and keep it out of a landfill.

We're just getting started and looking for all kinds of volunteers as well as people with things that need fixing. Sign up at repaircafepeninsula.org and please share this post if you think someone you know would be into this!

Outdoor or free indoor basketball runs in SM County?

Where are the runs happening in San Mateo or elsewhere on the peninsula? I've been going to Shoreview and Beresford, but haven't had any luck finding a solid group.

I saw past threads recommending the Y or PJCC, but I'd rather not have to pay to play. Thanks in advance!

USA vs Bosnia watch party?

Anyone familiar with any watch parties around San Mateo / San Carlos today? Looking for something kid friendly. I couldn’t tell if the Central Park event was only for the Türkiye match or throughout the World Cup.

West Fifth vs 55 West Fifth?

Hi all,

I've seen the negative reviews lately regarding issues at 55 west fifth (the towers), but I was wondering if the experience would be similar at the sister building, west fifth (e.g., 85 west fifth).

I know that they are both managed by Equity (which I am aware has quite a reputation), but I'd like to know if there are any (dis)advantages to being at one apartment vs. the other (e.g., staff, pests, noise issues, package safety). Besides the fact that 55 west fifth is simply more updated than west fifth.

Thank you!

Upcoming All-ages Open-mic Music Jam: July 11th

Hello musicians and music lovers of San Mateo. If you play guitar, bass, drums, keys, sing vocals, or just enjoy hearing local music, this is the event for you.

We are hosting our fourth Jam of the year on July 11th at the Hillsdale Guitar Center. There will be a drum kit, digital piano, amps for guitars and bass, microphones, and other band equipment (feel free to bring your own instruments), along with an open invitation for anyone to join in and play. We will be covering a setlist of classic, easy-to-learn rock songs that makes everything accessible for players of all skill levels.

We need more live music in San Mateo and a way to cultivate local music culture. This is a chance to meet fellow fans, find fellow players, connect with future band mates, etc. Our last event was a been blast and attracted a great group of fun musicians and singers. We hope this next one will be even better!

So on 7/11, go get your free slurpee from 7-Eleven and then come join us in making some cool music.
