Nvidia Shield 2015 stuck

SOLVED (via adb and fastboot update)

Bought an brand new unused 2015 version of the Nvidia Shield yesterday. However during initial setup it gets stuck after I log in on my Google account. It's stuck on the screen where it searches for Shield experience updates, and error message below is "No Network Connection".

Any solutions? I've started to look into the recovery menu and ADB stuff but not an easy task.

Nvidia Shield Dolphin Emulator Simpsons hit and run GC. life in the shield yet.

Vulkan backend, VBIbskip on at 60% resolution on 720p FPS (sorry it's off screen is 35fps) it dips every once and a while but it's definitely playable. This is the official build of dolphin, it's not a fork one or anything. Nvidia shield is 16gb 2017 one I think. GameCube Pal ROM

ShieldPro and Dolby Vision

After a bit of help. My Shield arrived this morning and while going through setting everything up i keep getting promted to enable Dolby Vision, i proceed to turn it on but it just reverts back when i come out of the menu. I have an LG Oled C4 2025 model that supports it but it just reverts back. Watching content also looks grainy and washed out so im assuming its not playing correctley.

Everything thats not played through the shield displays in dolby visiual,hdr10 etc but as soon i i switch the picture quality looks poor. Iv tried different hdmi cables, turned off deep colour etc but no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Doesn't look good.

So I just purchased my 3rd Nvidia Shield Pro from Amazon. Don't ask long story. They are still selling 500+ units a month. Thats Crazy. I can see why Nvidia is in no hurry to update. I have to admit I'm waiting diligently for a new shield. Android 14 would be nice. HDR10+.

I'm in Canada

Plex Remote acces keeps turning red

Hi,

I have a shield pro for long time and setup plex for local playing.

That's working great for years.

Recently I want to make it available remote but I keep having the same problem that its green for a minute and then going to red.

I think I tried anything but it doenst work:

Static IP

Port forwarding

DMZ

Maybe I am doing it al wrong but its just not working.

My setup with Velop Mesh:

ISP Arris TG2492LG-ZG (bridge)=> linksys MR8300 => WHW03 => shield (all wired)

I also tried:

ISP Arris TG2492LG-ZG (bridge)=> linksys MR8300 => shield (all wired)

AI thinks its because a double NAS but my ISP keep telling me that my Arris is in full bridge mode.

I am now thinking its because of the velop mesh system

I'm curious about alternative remotes.

I'm interested in getting a Nvidia Shield Pro and im not picky about many things when it comes to remotes. However, I despise dealing with batteries if i don't need to. are there any good remotes for the nvidia shield pro that can just be charged?

Anyone playing with Emulators?

Who is playing around with Emulators on this device? I have a Shield 2019 and installed Retroarch to try out some N64 emulation.

I wanted to see if anyone has tried emulation and the results you have had. It seems to work, but I need to learn how to properly map controllers and what not.

Shield locking up or crashing - Using Projectify? Maybe take a read

After declining to update my Shield from v8.x for quite some time, I finally relented about 4 months ago. At first all seemed fine other than some niggles with how new Android handles file access for applications & external storage (boy oh boy is that a pain now!).

But as many others, I didn't want the noisy front screen and the ads, so I took the advice on here to install Projectify and get that set up as the default home page. So now I have a lovely simple front screen with the 6 apps I actually use, and then a hidden menu underneath that lets me pop up the main android settings and all of the installed apps. Its pretty much perfect.

But the lock up and crashes became an issue. After a while, I decided to clean and repaste the device, just in case - it wasn't too bad but still worth doing. This made no difference, so I eventually relented and did a full factory reset.

Countless hours of setting things up later (did I mention the nightmare of connecting to external storage in newer verisons of Android, jesus!).

At least its all fixed though. Right.

No.

Still coming back to the TV to find the Shield is dead. Sometimes more than once a day. So I started looking at buying a 2019 model last week as a cure-all and also to get DV content to work at full quality, rather than defaulting back to HDR10.

But thought I'd check one last thing before I did. Is it crashing because its running out of RAM?

And to answer that question, I can confidently say: Maybe.

First thing, installed the SDK stuffs and checked the current RAM situation. Oh boy, was this thing starved of RAM - I had about 50Mb of free RAM, 2.82 GB used, and just over 1Gb in the cache file. My belief is that it was totally starved of working memory and it was causing crashes.

So I looked at what could be done. I like Projectivity and didn't want to lose it, but I don't need the standard launcher anymore, and it was using memory.

So I removed it, and a few other bits and pieces:

The Main Launcher

Home Recommendations

Google Play Services for Instant Apps

Using the command: adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 [package.name]

So now, when I boot the shield there's not flip flop between Projectivity and stock, or any worry about it at all - it just boots cleanly and quickly.

In the end, I've got 90MB free, which doesn't sound great. But crucially, only 100MB in the swap file.

I've reduced the overall RAM pressure by a full GB.

Don't forget Android will pre-load anything it thinks you might use, it doesn't like to leave RAM unused if I understand correctly - so this largely explains the physical RAM being largely unchanged - the difference is that beforehand there was no choice, the RAM and cache was all full - there's a GB free now.

I also found that plex was using 25% CPU constantly, for over a day. No idea if it had always been doing this - but clearly its not a good thing. Did a ton of troubleshooting, but nothing worked. In the end I wiped it and reinstalled and now that is totally fine too. I suspect the low RAM caused all kinds of issues with the database and scanning loops, and as soon as I cleaned it up it's ran just fine now. So at least that's made a noticeable difference.

Its also fun to point out that playing a full 4k HDR Remux file from my external HDD only puts a 50% (out of 400% - 4 CPU threads - so really 12.5%) load on the box. The Shield can handle 4k playback without breaking sweat!

BTW: "adb shell top -m 5" if you want to see the top 5 demanding apps on your system and the overall state.

Shield keeps turning TV on after last update

Sorry if this has been asked before recently, there's a bunch of old threads referencing this...

Since latest Shield update (which I thought was supposed to address this), I wake up in the morning or return from work to my TV being on with my shield's screensaver. I never had this issue before the last update, and have been consistently experiencing this problem since. I know it's something HDMI-CEC related because when I disable it, it doesn't happen. I have an LG C1 TV and a Samsung HW-Q990D soundbar that the Shield is directly connected to. Any advice or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Life in Nvidia shield yet! Dolphin emulator

Terminator 3 redemption (gamecube) on Nvidia Shield TV. Dolphin emulator update seems decent on it, not bad for a piece of hardware (shield) that's been around for over 10 years. I even got The Simpsons hit & run at a pretty solid frame are using stock settings and VBI skip at 60%.

Shield x LG Oled x Sonos arc

Hi, I’m after some help please! I cannot get atmos out of the shield through earc into my arc. I’ve tried my uhd player with the same cable/input etc and it’s showing up on Sonos app as atmos. When playing some rips through its usb port it’s also showing atmos. The same rips playing on the shield using maven kodi come up as dolby digital plus 2.0. I’ve tried passthrough and fiddled with setting but I cannot get atmos! Anyone have any ideas? I don’t want to use the usb on the disc player is it won’t display Dolby vision. Many thanks

AI upscaler breaks fps on Netflix, Disney+ and Prime video.

Hi, new Member here.

Anyone else having this problem on some apps. It started with Netflix, then Disney+ and now Prime video joined the party.

As soon as I press on the AI upscaler on these apps (there might be more) fps starts to freeze and gives me micro stutters. When I turn it off everything is ok but back to blurry.

The AI upscaler works fine with Youtube and Google play movies but as soon as I watch HD content the AI upscaler just ruins things.

Any tips? Or is it time to upgrade?

Shield vs Competitors. Why are you staying with the Shield?

So, what is everyone using their Shield for in 2026? I used to watch SmartTube and use a few other apps occasionally but I don't anymore. So right now my Shield only exists for local (Kodi) and remote (Plex). And since media playback is currently the only reason I use my Shield, I'm beginning to look elsewhere because I hate that I'm missing out on DV FEL when It's supported by other players. I'm sure plenty of other media enthusiasts feel the same way, so I'm starting to wonder why people continue to buy the Shield over players like the Ugoos AM6B+ or the Vero V? Is it for the Play Store, official streaming apps or gaming? I feel like the Shield's AI upscaling isn't a big deal anymore unless you've got a real old TV. There's not much of a price difference and it appears you get significantly better performance with the Ugoos and Vero and they both support FEL. The major downside for some (including myself) is the initial setup/configuration, but the Vero V seems much easier than the Ugoos. So what am I missing?

I think I recall reading somewhere that Nvidia continues to produce the Shield because they keep selling, but at some point I'd imagine even the most devout user is going to get fed up and look elsewhere if Nvidia doesn't release an updated model.

But maybe you're not fussy about video playback because you use your Shield for steaming apps, 1080p playback or something entirely different. So looking elsewhere isn't relevant for your use case. I'm just trying to see if I'm overlooking something that I'll regret not having anymore if I jump ship.

Wifi/Bluetooth Dongle

A little while ago, I took my 2019 Pro apart to clean it and re-paste. It's running great again, but unfortunately the wifi/bluetooth connector plug broke off the board in the process 😭. I've tried a couple different wifi/bluetooth and bluetooth only dongles with no luck. Is there some sort of trick to getting one to work or does anyone know of one confirmed to work? Also open to any other potential solutions. I use ethernet so wifi isn't the priority, but not having bluetooth is driving me crazy.

Moving cached files and kodi data to External Storage on Nvidia shield Pro 2019

Hello,

This is specifically for those on here that know much about moving files using apps like explorer etc.

I am looking to get better RAM and for my shield to stop going from 50% to 90% in a matter of seconds.

I came across this online but there are some things on there that I could not quite make out , hoping someone that knows more about these things to set me straight.

Method 2: Path Substitution (Advanced/Recommended for Pro Users)

This method moves the entire .kodi folder (including cache/thumbnails) to an external drive without formatting it as internal storage. [1]

1. Setup External Drive

  • Plug in your USB drive. Make sure it is formatted as exFAT or NTFS.
  • Create a folder on the USB drive named kodi_data. [12]

2. Copy Current Data

  • Use a file manager app like X-plore File Manager (available on Play Store).
  • Navigate to Internal Storage/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.
  • Copy the .kodi folder.
  • Paste the .kodi folder into your USB Drive/kodi_data/ folder. [1234]

3. Redirect Kodi

  • Create a text file on your computer named xbmc_env.properties.
  • Inside the file, add the following line (replace sda1 with your actual USB drive name found via file manager): xbmc.data=/storage/external_storage/sda1/kodi_data/
  • Move this xbmc_env.properties file to the root of your Shield's internal storage: /sdcard/.
  • Restart the NVIDIA Shield.

First has this worked for anyone on here?

Under 3 redirect kodi I do not quite understand why I am creating a text file on my computer and not shield and even if that was the case, how do I now transfer the file to shield?
