Current rig, and where to go next

Hi folks, I'm a newbie looking for upgrade advice (or should I stick with what I have).

On the right, I use that shackle because I'm missing a line lock to make up the multiplier. I was going to order another when I then started thinking about Web Locks and Hangovers. After that I fell down the lineGrip rabbit hole and thought it would make sense to come and ask folk that actually know what they are doing! 😁

A lot of the online stuff seems to be a few years old, so I wasn't sure what was the best route to take. I'm not looking to spend loads just for the sake of it, but was interested in seeing if upgrading would help with tensioning.

Looking forward to hearing your advice.

Grogs in Highlines: I want your critical questions about our break tests

At tomorrow's ISA Safety event I'll have a detailed presentation about our research on GROGs and how they repeatedly failed in our cyclic load tests. I'll also show a sneak peek of our first test results on double wrapped smaller diameter spliced connectors and "soft thimbles" (spoiler: it doesn't look good at all, tune in for more details...) I'd like to invite everyone who's critical of our research on spliced connectors to join the Safety Event in the Live Stream and ask me all the critical questions that you can come up with: https://www.slacklineinternational.org/isa-safety-event/

The event starts on Aug 18 at 13:00 CEST, the talk about spliced connectors will begin at 14:00 CEST. More info about our tests can also be found in our video: https://youtu.be/RifE7b9Mdjw?is=bmMC7PBvnwwdMd9z

Day 5 of trickline (got my first trick!!)

Started precticing trickline with the incredible yotam cartoon a few weeks ago and got my first trick! But bounce to feet.

Its a bit tough and scary to use his setup cause it is so tensioned and very high as he needs it to be for him to be able to pull off doubles and such, but with the mats its probably the right choice... also because his an amazing teacher and helped me out alot

THX YOTAM! (:

Slacklining has improved my mental game in climbing

I just wanted to share a bit about how consistent slacklining has upped my climbing mental game. About 2 months ago I ruptured my A4 pulley and I picked up a slackline immediately as a hobby replacement. I’ve been slacklining consistently since then, twice a week on average and recently graduated from a 15m 50mm ratchet set up to a 25m 25mm primitive set up.

I started returning to the climbing gym two weeks ago and have slowly been working back up to being able to try hard again. Something I’ve noticed now is that I have a lot less hesitation when making bigger moves on boulders and on the lead wall. My fear of falling has almost dissipated and I suddenly feel a lot more comfortable with feeling unstable on the wall. As a result, I’ve been able to commit much better on the wall and climb better as a result i.e. having to take less pauses to mentally regroup, finishing climbs in lesser attempts since I have better commitment. I realise I am now making moves that I would have dropped earlier on in the past due to mental discomfort. And I know for sure this is not a climbing strength gain as I was out for 6 weeks due to my pulley rupture (although I did do some gymming during that down time). I’m not sure if this has been a physical or mental change from slacklining, maybe a bit of both, but it’s been so good discovering what slacklining has done for my climbing.

I’ve been climbing for 8 years and just wish I had slacklined sooner as it would have really helped my progression as a climber. I love slacklining so much now and still continue to do it alongside climbing. Sometimes I fear that my interest in slacklining might outgrow my interest in climbing.

Tips for Setup

I have a 30 metre slackline that I’m hoping to use as a mid-lining setup to get a bit further off the ground.

I have an introductory knowledge of outdoor rock climbing having done top rope and lead outdoors and a few bits of trad.

I’m thinking about rigging my slackline to walk on and clipping into a static line (10mm line) as my safety.

What are the concerns or problems with this setup?

Really appreciate any and all advice 🤙

**I AM NOT JUST GONNA DO THIS TOMORROW, LOOKING FOR ADVICE AND WILL MAKE SURE I PROPERLY RESEARCH BEFORE I GET ON THE LINE AT HEIGHT

Slackline in East Los Angeles?

I live in Echo Park and it seems that the only dedicated slackline groups I can find are in Santa Monica which is quite far from me. Does anyone know of other meetups or groups for slacklining further east in LA? It’s too far a trek for me to regularly go to the beach and I’d love to find something closer to home to be a part of. Heck, can be informal too if there are other east siders lurking here. Thanks

Can I rig a highline using cargo webbing and a lever hoist instead of a conventional highline setup?

I'm Korean, and unfortunately there isn't much of a highlining community or access to highline training here in Korea. If I wanted proper in-person training, I would most likely have to travel abroad.

Getting dedicated highline gear is also difficult because most of it has to be ordered internationally.

That's why I'm trying to work with what is realistically available to me locally, while still buying dedicated highline components where they are particularly important.

What do you think about this approach?

Any tips on how to handle the mental game?

I’ve been slacklining for about 3 to 4 weeks. I can walk about 20 feet. My balance has gotten better. My arms, legs, and core have gotten stronger. But I’m still a little shaky in the head. Lol. I think the biggest thing holding me back right now is… I think I’m going to fall and then I fall.

Can a rope support a 47 kg girl if it consists of a jump rope, a clothesline, and is "clamped" by a door from above?

Please don't ask me why I need to know this.
