Are East Asian males like latest season Roddy liked in the UK?

I'm an Aussie East Asian and I grew up being called racial slurs because of my East Asian appearance even though I was born here.

Just wondering if East Asian males are treated better in the UK?

Asking specifically about males because globally I get the feeling that Asian females are in vogue and feitshised.

Also in the latest season of Slow Horses, Roddy Ho is a full East Asian character and they seem to be building him up in status even though he's still used for comic relief. As in their referring to him as fit n stuff.

I don't see Asian male characters like that in Australian TV. Someone that's one of the guys and attractive to women.

Blown away by the series. Should I read the books?

I started watching Slow horses a couple of weeks ago and completed all 5 seasons and man I love it. I love every bit of the show. Is it worth reading the books after watching the show? I see there are around 10 books. What do you recommend?

Mick Herron in Conversation

This conversation was one of two events that Mick Herron featured in at the 2026 Sydney Writers' Festival. He was absolutely delightful. Enjoy!

The Genie Cave

An excellent piece of Slough House fan art depicting one of my favorite scenes in the series from book 6, a scene I call "the genie cave". I am almost certain that this scene will not be adapted in season 6 of the show given how season 5 ended. If so it's a shame, because this moment between Lamb and Catherine feels as though the entire series was building to it.

I think I might be a slow horse

I think I might be a slow horse because after all these years I just now realized that the term "slow horse" is just an intentional mispronunciation of "Slough House." 🙄

What kind of “dirt” Lamb had of Taverner?

In S5 (London Rules) Lamb said to Taverner: "I've got so much dirt on you, I could start an allotment." 🤣

Can someone enlighten me what kind of “dirt” they have for each other? I’d love to read their past stories.

Tom Brooke (J.K. Coe) as John Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility (2026)

We’re all talking about Jack Lowden turning his hand to Mr. Darcy in the upcoming Pride and Prejudice miniseries, but I was pleasantly surprised to see another Slow Horses cast member in an Austen adaptation.

Here Tom Brooke is opposite Stacy Martin as Fanny Dashwood in the upcoming Sense and Sensibility film, Georgia Oakley dir.

I love seeing weird-looking, characterful guys (meant warmly) in Austen.

Scratch n Sniff

Little n Large. It works so well, it almost makes you think they came up with the names before they came up with the characters.

I think this may be the wittiest dialogue I've ever heard in a show.

Also, fuck the park.

Our Favourite Spider

Was watching the first episode of S3 House of the Dragon and look who popped up.

Made me chuckle but also miss him. He was such a good irritating thorn in the side of the Slow Horses.

The Company by Robert Littrell

Really good book, and if you like spy novels I highly recommend it. One of the primary characters is named Harvey Torriti and is remarkably similar to Jackson Lamb. Cuts his teeth in post-war Berlin, constantly drinking but seemingly never drunk, overweight with a slovenly appearance but remarkably fit underneath it all, irreverent field genius. Interestingly, Torriti was heavily based on the actual CIA Berlin Station Chief during the height of the Cold War, William King Harvey, who was a fascinating guy and worth reading about in his own right.

Order of books?

This is from Thriftbooks.com (highly recommended, no connection). It is the order of the series with the novellas spliced into the order.

One problem. It doesn't include Nobody Walks or The Secret Hours, which were written in that order.

Slow Horses vs The Agency

Not sure if any Slow Horses fans have watched The Agency (starring Michael Fassbender)? I wanted to ask because having lived and worked for a number of years in and around Farringdon and Barbican I just realised… Michael Fassbenders flat is in Barbican which overlooks / is opposite Slough House. Could there be a potential crossover? Is the CIA surveilling the Slow Horses? What does Lamb know? Does the Park know?

Slow Horses actors in new Supergirl movie

I caught an early screening of Supergirl and was pleasantly surprised to see a couple of familiar faces in the movie. I went in blind without watching any trailers, so I was surprised to see Kadiff Kirwan (Marcus Longridge) and Naomi Wirthner (Molly Doran) pop up in different scenes.

Will Frank Harness be back, ever?

I’ve never read the books, only seen the show but I don’t care about spoilers. I really enjoyed season 4 and was intrigued by River’s dad Frank. Will he be back in future seasons, ever?

S5 kind of blew me away. For these reasons.

I though the character dynamics, chemistry and delivery reached a whole new level in S5. I kept rewinding the paint can scene with River and Coe, as the way they delivered their reactions, cracked me up. So, just an added touch of humor throughout, as well.

The actors' demeanor and general appearance made them appear even more natural within their roles. It seemed like their skill level also went up a level. Didn’t think that was even possible.

I loved Coe’s progression,  but oddly I couldn’t seem to take my eyes off of  Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish. I’ve seen her in other roles but, imo, she is just outstanding in this particular role.

Just finished Spook Street, some general questions.

Did I miss it? Was it ever explained why Sid told River that she'd been sent to SH to keep an eye on him?

Was it ever explained how Molly Doran lost her legs? I think I'm confusing her with another female character in another series, who lost her legs in a car bomb meant for someone else.

Just Finished Season 5 — I Love Slow Horses!

Guys, I finally wrapped up Season 5 of Slow Horses and now I can't wait for Season 6!

What a ride this show has been. I absolutely loved it thrilling from start to finish, and I enjoyed every moment. The characters are a huge part of what makes it so great. My favorites have to be Shirley, River, and Diana. And of course, how can anyone forget Jackson Lamb? Gary Oldman's dialogue delivery is just incredible. Every scene he's in is entertaining.

Personally, Seasons 3 and 5 were my favorites. Both had me completely hooked and delivered some of the best moments of the series.

Now the wait for Season 6 begins. Anyone else have Seasons 3 and 5 as their favorites? What were your favorite moments or characters?
