Private Nail Techs?

hi hello, my bf likes to get manicures and gel polish regularly but he has very inconsistent experiences at regular salons. i’ve been looking for a private nail tech to book an appt for him so he can see the difference in quality but i’m having trouble hunting some down! can i get any recommendations from anyone? i live outside of the city and go to a private nail tech myself and i want him to have better experiences! thank you.

EDIT to clarify: i live in a city outside of atl, 45-an hour away. my nail tech would not be an option for him.

BBQ Review: Owen’s & Co Riverside “Texas Barbecue”

I have “Texas Barbecue” in quotes because while they have it printed on their sign posts it is decidedly not that..

I’ll back up - after all ya’ll don’t know me, and I keep my post history hidden because I comment on enough stuff that I probably dox myself at least once a month - and when I do write a review I tend to get stalked by the restaurateurs for being an intolerable asshole - I mean … they’re not wrong, but that doesn’t make my review any less correct.

Some of ya’ll may remember my review of:
“The Fuck”

On this particular subject: Texas Barbecue- I was a Austin based bbq judge for several years; had a bbq blog for several years where I drove from state to state in search of love (failed) and good bbq (found plenty of epic joints). C.V. over -

Obviously this is not my profession- while I am on occasion entertaining - no one is paying me for my abuse of you the reader -

On to the brass tacks:

We could argue spices, and wood for days, but ultimately what makes Texas Barbecue- Texas Barbecue is three things: Salt, Pepper, and a long slow smoke. Like 12-16+ hours if in my backyard because I need the excuse to sit on the back porch and work through 2 cases of beer on a Sunday afternoon while the gal I’m dating wonders why she still puts up with me. (It’s the food. I doubt it’s the sex)

Even if you use one of those new fangled barbecue robot things like a Traegar or Rec-Tec or what have you, you’d agree that SMOKE is a central component of barbecue success and flavor - yes?

And this is where Owen’s & Co fails catastrophically.

They’re using electric steamers & smokers for their meat, and I’m guessing they haven’t replaced the wood chips in a while, or only stick their meat in for enough time to build up a ‘dusting’ because it’s smokeless, flavorless, greasy, dry, and ultimately awful. (And yes I understand fully the oxymoron that is greasy and dry… but juicy =\= greasy so I’m stuck with that wording)

I ordered .5 lbs of brisket, no one asked if I wanted ‘lean or moist’ which is sacrilegious in a traditional Texas barbecue joint.

Instead of splitting the flat from the point, they cut right through the center, and gave me two massive untrimmed slabs, each with about a half inch of fat cap on them which further tells me they’re not trimming their brisket correctly before cooking… so you’re getting a peppered & salted mass of partially rendered fat on the cap instead of a smoke ring & crust reminiscent of the Maillard reaction you get on a good steak.

I ordered one jalapeño & cheddar sausage link, with barely detectable heat, and honestly I think they boiled them, and then put them on the grill long enough to achieve marks… but they didn’t smoke them… they didn’t have that customary squish/burst texture when biting into them.. and of course… they’re gray. Light gray. Light your dead grandmothers fingers. Gray skinned, gray interior, and little green flecks they want me to believe are jalapeños.

The pulled pork - mechanically masticated and served with an ice cream scoop judging by appearance. Definitely not pulled pork- and in an area that can call old school ‘whole hog pulled pork barbecue’ a small town style throughout middle Georgia - having shitty pulled pork is tantamount to a war crime.

All in - I ordered about $80 n barbecue for lunch today, just so I could try a bit of everything… and guys - we’re gonna have to set up a side quest for ta’ll or something to establish a 2 and 3 meat plate. No one should have to suffer through an Ala carte menu to build a plate when brisket is $40lb.

Also. WTF. Brisket shouldn’t be $40/lb. If Bucc’ees can serve a better brisket sandwich than you can - (for $12 mind you) you’ve got some work to do. The only barbecue‘plate’ on the menu is $160.

And now for the good:
The staff was extremely attentive if unschooled on their subject.

They make good pickled onions and pickles.

The make and cheese (shells and cheese) was edible.

Verdict: Skip it.
This town has too much good barbecue- don’t eat here.

Go to (in no particular order)

Heirloom
Jacks Feed Store
Dixie Q
Rodney Scott’s
Or any of two dozen other places in the area that are more worth your time and carnivorous dollar.

I’d include photos with this but apparently that’s not allowed here:

Elevated places to watch fireworks near the Battery tonight

Hello all, where are some good spots to watch the fireworks from the game that isn't in the Battery. I feel like it's gonna be a cluster fest getting into the Battery and finding parking. Thanks!

Art classes in Smyrna/Marietta

Hey all, living in Smyrna as a 30 year old. Im wondering about locations or areas to participate in drawing or art in general. Im not a new artist, ive been drawing all my life but within the last few years have hit a personal plateau. Id like to participate in a community or group or class of some kind to help expand my horizons. I mostly do figure drawing with pencil but im open to other concepts and things obviously. Ive seen the Marietta Art Museum has various courses, are they legit? Having to pay a bit of money is fine with me. Thank you!

Meet Yuki and Scooby!!!

These sweet boys are looking to each have their own forever family! As brothers exhibiting littermate syndrome, they must be adopted to separate homes to be able to thrive and blossom as individuals!

Yuki and Scooby will thrive with an adopter who is able to commit to providing training, boundaries, and routines to help them grow and succeed! Both dogs will likely exhibit anxiety within the first few days of separation from their brother and will need patience and time to decompress/adjust.

All about Yuki!! (Tan)
🐾 2 years old
🐾 Heartworm Positive: finished with Doxycycline medication, will need someone who is fully commited to giving him strict rest in August when he gets his injections as the last part of his treatment
🐾 Would do best as the only dog in the house as he goes through his heartworm treatment
🐾 Loves Kong toys, sweet and friendly
🐾 Potty trained, Low to Medium Energy
🐾 Working on crate training: currently can sleep in crate overnight and can take naps in crate
🐾 Currently working on “place” command
🐾 Working on learning basic commands

All about Scooby!!! (Black/brown)
🐾 3 years old
🐾 Heartworm Negative
🐾 potty trained, Medium to High Energy
🐾 Loves to chew and needs powerful, tough toys to chew on such as a Kong
🐾 Really enjoys walks and would benefit from a family that can exercise him with walks and play with him daily
🐾 Working on crate training: currently can sleep in crate overnight and can take naps in crate, loves his crate and willingly goes in
🐾 Currently working on “place” command
🐾 Timidness towards new people, will take some time to warm up. Once warmed up, very loving and accepting of pets
🐾 Working on learning basic commands

So the accusations against Zoya Mediterranean might not be so far fetched after all

People recently started talking about Zoya allegedly using fake reviews. Then I saw this.
The claim going around is that Zoya uses fake 5-star reviews for themselves and fake 1-star reviews against other restaurants.
Then I saw that Mezza Luna has a 1-star review from Deniz Çevik, who appears to be the owner or manager of Zoya.
The review literally just says:
“Worst place.”
That’s it.
No details. No explanation. Nothing about the food or service.
If people are already accusing your restaurant of review manipulation, leaving a random 1-star review for another local restaurant from your own account is crazy.
That is not just unprofessional, it is cheap and embarrassing.
Bots are bad enough, but doing it from your own name is another level.
This makes the accusations look a lot more believable.

Yeah, something's up with Mezza Luna reviews.

In the past hour, there have been 15, 15 one star reverws for Mezza Luna. All the posts have interesting names like Elif Katigin, Sunayna Yasin, Zolfoqar Raufi, mehmet elchavo.. I have lived in Smyrna for almost ten years now and have nothing but amazing things to say about how good Mezza Luna is. 15 one-star reviews in an hour.. Yeah, umm, something seems really fishy with whatever is going on with these reviews and the Zoya spot..

*UPDATE 6/28* Zoya Reviews Scams

Several five star reviews, that are obviously fake, have all simultaneously hit Zoya within a few minutes of each other, immediately after community members spoke up through their poor reviews about the ongoing fraud. I hope the community makes it clear that we will not tolerate this behavior.

The next Google review adventure: Fancy Toy Poodles

Now that the Zoya mess is headed to resolution, I wanted to share another business that seems to be blatantly covering up its bad reviews by bombarding Google with fake reviews: Fancy Toy Poodles, an extremely shady place by the Goodwill on South Cobb.

The place has over a thousand reviews (there’s, hopefully, no way this place has sold a thousand of these dogs). If you sort by lowest you’ll see tons of instances of dogs dying, being sick, or completely not the breed they’re advertised as.
