Want to become a lyricist, not sure how!

Hi, so first ever post here... I absolutely love music and have written poems for 20 years. Just wondering if there is any advice out there for how I could become a lyricist. I know the style and structure of poetry is not the same as writing lyrics. I can read music a little and have starting learning piano but nowhere near being at the level to compose my own music yet!

M22 , i watch over 40 movies in theatres per yr , considering myself a beginner cinephile, have a lot of interest in filmmaking and aiming to gain as much of knowledge till I'm 30 and later dive into real films , so I'm starting with writing lyrics for songs , this is my first attempt at mid night , ik I can't become a one night wonder , I'm ready to be consistent , but I wanna know if my first step is good enough or i have atleast a bit of skills in this , sorry for bad handwriting, I could have put effort and rewrite it to post here , but I couldn't , pls evaluate and judge me if I can continue or stop and improve bla bla first and then restart , all types of opinions and suggestions are appreciated 👍

First try to write a song.

Currently in my backyard, trying to figure out what to write. The title and the meaning I want the song to have is there. But for some reason my brain farted, and nothing comes to mind.

It is my first time trying this, so no wonder I have this problem.

How did everyone's first try go when they started to write lyrics? And what's your tip for a beginner?

[START] Looking for a songwriter

I’m looking for a songwriter to collaborate with my band. We’re mainly looking for someone who can help us write lyrics, melodies, and develop strong song ideas.

Our main influences are My Chemical Romance, Artemas, and Linkin Park, but we’re also open to a more feminine rage / alt-pop / emotional direction. We’re looking for something intense, emotional, catchy, and a little dark.

We’d love to find someone who’s into similar music and wants to genuinely collaborate rather than just write a song and disappear.

If this sounds like your thing, feel free to DM me! It would be great if you could send some examples of your writing/work too.

Feedback and Suggestions on How to end this song! Thanks!

(For those with short attention spans, vocals / verse begin at around 39 seconds and the part I’m asking for advice on mainly, begins around 2:54)

Hello all,

as the title says, I’m looking for feedback and some ideas for the finale of the song. After the guitar solo/ buildup the song currently moves into the original bass motif from the start of the song, I would like that to lead into something explosive and have the song end on that note.

I am pulling heavy inspiration from Sabbath and Zeppelin , so far my creative well has run dry and my musical prowess (or lack thereof) prevents me from stealing any cool ideas from the two aforementioned bands.

Any feedback on the general mood and direction of the song would be just as greatly appreciated as it may help steer me in the direction of a completed song.

Thanks so much!

(Excuse the mixing and occasionally flat singing, this is a draft)

Hey, I am new to writing music, need advice

Recently I have wanted to make some songs and sing them but my song drafts are mid and I am terrible at singing. I have a pretty deep voice for my age I believe and if I try to sing high my voice cuts out tbh. I have a pretty normal life so noth much to sing about. Only thing was a relationship I had that was a date and then she messed me over by going out with someone else without telling me and we both knew we liked the other. I tried some drafts but they are terrible. I need some help. Also btw for info I am a guy

First time writing. Feel free to give feedback but pls be kind. :)

Pretend

Verse 1:

I guess we’ve been playing pretend for a while now

Again, I was left hurt don’t feel like I could smile again somehow

I know that I hurt you first by saying things carelessly

But you still pretended to be my friend and played it off as if it was all okay you see

I knew I was in the wrong and was sorry

And you talked about me behind my back and acted all high and mighty

Verse 2:

How were you so good at acting as if everything was alright?

Why am I the only one hurt? It just doesn’t seem right

Had I known you were this good of a liar

I would’ve been more prepared for this friendship to end

Maybe I wouldn’t haven’t gotten hurt and stopped caring that it was all just pretend

Chorus:

You played the friend role so well

You should be in a play or in goddamn movie from hell

You said I was a bitch and it was classic

But this is coming from someone so unbelievably plastic

Verse 3:

I cried over a friendship that was so toxic

My God I can’t believe I was actually sad about it

Took me long to get over it

But now I’m so happy it’s over because you were just a piece of shit

Chorus…

Me trying to be a little experimental with my songwriting

This is not a post trying to spread my music I'm literally just trying to talk to other songwriters and see what they think of this, what their opinion is. Was experimenting with different songwriting techniques. Give it a listen, tell me what you think, any advice is welcome :)

My favorite artist is juice but I'd love if some homies could help me out with lyrics and chorus parts, I'm struggling with the chorus to my song and would love if someone could help me out.

Suja

Title: Suja — looking for feedback on the lyrics/concept
I’m working on a song called “Suja.” The song is written as if I’m talking to a person I’m falling in love with, but “you” is actually the drink. The bigger theme is restoration/replenishment after bad habits have left me feeling depleted and uncertain about what I want.
I’d especially like feedback on:
• Whether the metaphor comes through naturally or feels too forced
• How well each line flows into the next
• Which lines feel strongest/weakest
• Whether the chorus feels like a satisfying payoff
• What you think the song is about before knowing the metaphor

Verse 1 (how Suja found me )

Gave me a new lease on life
I was going through it
Bad habits left me bad batches
Didn’t know what I was doing

Sacrificing my energy
Leaving me with less
Sacrificing my energy
Until nothing left

Thought I knew what I wanted
Thought I knew what was best

Drowning in too many options
Leaving me to second guess
But I know I’m sure with this

That’s why you should know

Chorus

You replenish me when nothings left
When it comes to you I must confess
Knew what was wrong, made everything right
Suja baby you know you the best

[16F] Looking for a Producer (15–19) to Collab!

I’m 16 and I’ve been writing songs for about a year. I mainly write emotional, nostalgic, and storytelling-focused music about feelings, relationships, memories, and growing up.
I’m looking for a producer around my age who wants to create something together for fun, not to sell beats. I’d love to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and hopefully make more music together!
DM me if you’re interested!

I really hope i tagged the right community lol anyway

I really wanted to write/make a song but here’s the thing. I don’t have any experience in music, nor have I ever learned music theory, notes, keys, or just anything to do with music in general. I wanted to write a post breakup song with LE SSERAFIM’s “Need your company” vibe. But I’m just stuck at the instrumentals whatsoever.. I do have some experience in writing so for writing the lyrics, it won’t be much of a problem. Especially since songs are creative things and the lyrics don’t need to be poetic or make 100% sense as long as the emotions hit, y’know?

Any tips on writing a hook?

I'm having trouble writing a catchy hook for my song. I feel like whenever I try it sounds stupid in my head. Does anyone have any songwriting exercises to come up with a good hook line and melody?
