Multiple Firmware Issues

Here are my multiple issues after the recent firmware update. Any suggestions are welcome.

The well documented sync issue with my PS5.

Audio dropouts that I explained here.
https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyBravia/s/u9l8WIJbkl

Because of the audio dropouts I switched to native TV apps but can’t sign into AppleTV app. It’s an endless cycle if QR codes and passwords.

I use a media bias LED light plugged into the USB port. It used to stay off when the TV was off, now the USB port gets power intermittently so the LED is always turning on and off. I got an eco friendly powerstrip that I’ll plug the LEDs into that should turn them on/off based on the TV power draw. Hopefully that’ll solve it.

So frustrating…

X90L ARC Issue

My Sony X90L is connected to an Onkyo 575E amplifier. For the past two months, I’ve been having issues with ARC when using the TV built in apps.

Whenever I switch from one of the Onkyo’s inputs to a TV app, the Onkyo display changes to TV, indicating that it has switched to ARC. However there is no sound. The only way to get the audio back is to restart the TV and Amp multiple times. Sometimes it works after 2–5 restarts, while other times even 10 consecutive restarts don’t fix the issue.

To troubleshoot, I tried isolating the problem to determine whether it was caused by the TV or the amplifier. Without going into all the details, I found that the TV appears to be the source of the issue.

Whenever I disconnect the TV HDMI cables from ports 1 and 2, leaving only the amplifier connected to HDMI port 3 (ARC/eARC), then restart the TV ARC starts working immediately.

What’s confusing is that sometimes everything works perfectly even with all HDMI ports connected, which makes the issue even more confusing.

Audio Settings on TV:
eArc off not Auto since I’m using ARC (tried both).
Audio pass through set to Auto.
And all other settings that has on or off are set to off.

Sony Bravia 7 with PS5 Pro

Hey,

I just got a PS5 Pro and a Sony Bravia 7, and I could use some help setting up the best audio with the built-in speakers. I'm a fan of a bit of surround sound. Can you help me with the TV audio settings and also for the PS5 Pro? Also, for the Sony TV audio acoustic, which is best for the PS5 Pro: standard Sony acoustic, Dolby Atmos, or DTS? Any other suggestions about the display or anything else would be awesome too.

New A95L Owner – Love the TV, but looking for long-term perspective from experienced owners

UPDATE: thx for the feedback and support on this - after some consideration I decided I’m keeping the TV (I LOVE IT) - and I’m getting the 5 year Geek Squad warranty.

Going to watch Jaws 50th anniversary UHD 4K disc today!

__________________________________________

Hi everyone,

I took delivery of a 77" A95L yesterday, and after spending several hours setting it up, I can honestly say I understand why this TV has the reputation it does. The picture quality is incredible.

Out of the box, though, I found SDR content (especially cable news and other everyday viewing) noticeably dim, even with Brightness already at maximum. After reading through several posts here, I changed both the SDR Luminance and HDR Luminance settings to High, and that completely transformed the experience. The image now looks exactly like I was hoping it would—bright, rich, and absolutely stunning. Watching Hunt for Red October on 4K UHD last night was an amazing experience, and I can't wait to work through discs like Jaws, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Lawrence of Arabia.

Here's the question I'd love some perspective on.

I realize no one can predict the lifespan of an individual panel. Dead pixels, burn-in, and other panel issues can happen—or never happen. I also understand that modern QD-OLED technology has come a long way in reducing burn-in concerns.

My question is less about burn-in specifically and more about long-term panel longevity.

Since I prefer the picture with SDR and HDR Luminance both set to High, I'm essentially asking the panel to operate at its brightest settings during most of my viewing. For those of you who have owned the A95L (or previous Sony OLEDs) for a while, have you seen any evidence that running the TV this way has affected panel performance or longevity over time?

The reason I ask is that this is the most expensive TV I've ever purchased, and I'd ideally like it to last well beyond three years. I also have a 15-day return/exchange window, so while I'm absolutely loving the A95L today, I'm trying to evaluate it with a long-term perspective.

Part of me wonders whether a 75" Bravia 9 might ultimately be the better long-term fit simply because Mini LED technology can deliver significantly higher brightness without relying on emissive pixels in the same way OLED does. I fully understand I'd be giving up OLED's perfect blacks and some of the picture quality that makes the A95L so special, so this isn't a simple "which TV is better?" question.

Rather, I'm curious whether any long-term A95L or Sony OLED owners have had similar concerns, and if so, how they've thought about them.

I'd really appreciate any experiences or perspectives you're willing to share. Thanks again to everyone here—the advice I've found on this subreddit has already been incredibly helpful in getting this TV dialed in.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or experiences you can share—I really appreciate this community.

The Bravia 7 ii and 9 ii blow the 8 ii out of the water.

The Bravia 7 ii and 9 ii blow the 8 ii out of the water.

I saw the 7 ii, 9 ii next to the 8 ii and the regular 8 all together with the same demo reel at Best Buy. At times you couldn't tell the 8 ii from the RGB TVs. At other times, the RGB TVs from Sony dominated it. The puppy scenes were where the RGB TVs just looked a generation ahead of the QDOLED.

The mix of dark and light Kratos scene is where the 8 ii looked better on parts of Kratos body along the shoulders but the RGB TVs just had far more outright victories in the reel. They didn't just look better in certain parts like 8 ii where parts of the ground in one grass shot had better black dirt or the Kratos scene where only a portion of the scene was better. It was the entire image. It was like a veil was lifted off the image with RGB TVs. When they won they dominated the entire scene on screen.

The OLEDS just looked dim and couldn't touch the RGB TVs on color. They always looked better on color, often times to a ridiculous degree. It shocked me how little the on paper contrast advantage showed up in that particular demo. At least with that particular demo, RGB was clearly the better mix of traits. But it all comes back to the scenes with puppies. The brightness was clearly a super power that brought about far more clarity and color. QDOLED can hang in some scenes just to get blown out in quite a few others. Second and third generation RGB TVs are going to be ridiculous. No way would I choose the 8 ii over either one.

The Bravia 7 ii looked identical to 9 ii most of the time and there was very little difference when they differed. In fact, a few times it was brighter in certain parts of the screen. I would have no problem getting the 7 II and saving some money.

Need help: Bravia 3 shows stutter and judder on every app except Apple TV app

Hey guys, I bought a Bravia 3 about a week ago, and I've noticed consistent stuttering, judder, and motion interpolation, even after turning all the motion settings off. It's most noticeable when I'm watching content on Sony Pictures Core, but I also see it on Netflix and even when playing movies from my USB drive.

However, I don't notice it when watching through the Apple TV app. This smoothing effect is driving me crazy. I wanted to rule out a hardware defect, but since it doesn't happen in the Apple TV app, I'm confused.

I even requested an exchange for a Samsung QN80F, but they told me a technician will inspect my Bravia first before they process the exchange.

One more question: if I use an Apple TV 4K streaming box instead of the built-in apps, will it reduce or eliminate this motion effect? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Sony Bravia X900H red flashing light

Turned on my 55” X900H this evening. It went to the Sony logo, then through the colourful Android animation, then briefly brought up the home page before going black screen, with the power light flashing red in four flash, pause, repeat cycles.

  1. I tried unplugging it. Holding the power button on the bottom for 60 seconds and waiting for 10 minutes. Rebooted and the same issue.

  2. Unplugged and after another 10 minutes I tried holding the power button (bottom of the tv) while I plugged it back in. Seemed to do a different reboot, but after two minutes I was back to black screen and the same red flashing light.

  3. Finally tried ‘2’ again but this time also holding the UP button on the remote controls Circle. This forced some sort of update. But I’ve been looking at this update screen for over an hour and nothing seems to be happening?

Any ideas?

Apple TV app incompatible with Sony BRAVIA 8 II (AE2 platform)

I recently bought a Sony BRAVIA 8 II in Costa Rica. The TV is fully updated, Netflix, Disney+, Crunchyroll and all other streaming apps install and work correctly.
However, the Google Play Store says:
*“Apple TV: Shows, Movies & More isn’t available on Google Play on this device”* and *“This item is not compatible with your device.”*
Sony states that Apple TV is supported on 2025 BRAVIA Google TVs.
Is anyone else with an AE2 platform (2025 BRAVIA) experiencing this? Is this a firmware issue or is Apple missing the compatibility flag for this model?

Does Match Frame Rate (on Apple TV) Need to be on with the Bravia 8ii?

I’ve got a Bravia 8ii. My Apple TV is set to 4K SDR 60 Hz and Match Dynamic Range is on and allowing it to auto-switch to HDR and Dolby Vision. Does Match Frame Rate also need to be on with this TV? I’ve been searching, but some places say yes and others say no.

I’ve had the TV for a few months and the only problem I’ve had is audio on a couple HBO Euphoria episodes got out of sync last weekend. I deleted and reinstalled the HBO app and rebooted the TV and it hasn’t happened since, but I need to test it more. One source said that match frame rate can cause audio sync issues.

Sony Bravia Quad and SW-5 Sub for sale 1 year old in Pristine Condition

What sound bar do you love with your Bravia?

We just returned the Sony sound bar to Costco that we bought with our 77" Bravia 8 OLED 4K because it would not stay connected, requiring us to unplug and replug every single time.
It was Sony HT-SC40 2.1ch Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer.

We aren't big action film fans -- just want a bar with sound that is better than TV, and that will reliably turn on automatically when we power on the TV.
<$400

Thanks for any tips.

Bravia 7ii or 8ii

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to buy a new Sony TV but can’t decide between the **Bravia 7 II (Mini LED)** and **Bravia 8 II (OLED)**.
My usage is roughly:
- 50% Netflix
- 50% YouTube
- Very little to no gaming
- Mostly watch in the evenings or at night
I’ve spoken to a few salespeople at different stores, and interestingly, most of them have recommended the **Bravia 7 II** over the 8 II. Their reasons were mainly better brightness, no concerns about burn-in, and that it’s more practical for long-term use.

However, I know salespeople don’t always have the same priorities as actual owners, so I’d love to hear from people who have lived with either TV.

A few questions:
- Which would you choose for my usage?
- Is the OLED picture quality on the Bravia 8 II worth the trade-offs?
- Is burn-in still something to realistically worry about in 2026 if I mainly watch Netflix and YouTube?

If you were buying today with your own money, would you pick the 7 II or 8 II, and why?
I’d really appreciate hearing from actual owners or anyone who’s compared both side by side. Thanks!

EARC audio sync issues Sony Bravia 8 Mark II

Audio goes out of sync after a couple of mins playing on my PS5 pro on HDMI 3(EARC). Only way I can fix it is by changing my input mid game.. but even then sometimes it still goes out of sync. Supposedly this is a recent software update issue?
