A mini fan is a gamechanger

Laste summer when I saw some people with min ifans I decided to buy one. Today was the first day here with a a lot of heat so decided to take it to the spin class again and I remembered what a game changer it is.

My cycling jersey usually ends up soaked with all the sweat, sometimes more others less. This year we have better fans in the class so during the year it has been ok, however today my jersey was barely wet, having a constant flow of air helps a lot and improves your output (even more when you work out better in lower temperatures like me).

It can be a little cumbersome as mine is a little bigger than usual but you just place it in the handlebar with the clip and forget about it

anyone else kinda nervous about auto incline on their treadmill?

tried the auto incline today and my knees felt weird—is that normal? also worried about noise since my downstairs neighbors hate me.

incline intervals during thunderstorm kinda wild

Lightning just cracked and I'm grinding uphill—heart's pounding, sweat's dripping, bike's shaking. Did I just hallucinate that last hill? What am I even doing right now?

Instructor test/tryout

Hi all, I’m training to be an indoor cycling instructor and I was told to go on the mic for the first time and run through 2 songs. I’m not sure if they expect me to have choreography or anything (I’m a first timer and have never instructed anything before and they know that). And overall any tips on how to prepare and practice on your own in your house and just in general beginner tips? Thank you!

free spin apps for home bike

Ugh. Just ate a sad desk salad and my legs are already twitching. Tried a free app workout this morning—no subscription, just picked one with decent cues. Anyone else using free options? Curious what you’re streaming when you don’t wanna pay monthly. Lunch break’s almost over…

3 weeks in and still can't clip in right

Day 21 and I still fumble the cleats every time. My foot slips off mid-sprint like clockwork. Tried adjusting the tension twice—no dice. Roommate says it’s my shoes, but they’re the ones the studio gave me. Anyone else take this long to get it smooth? It’s 4:17 p.m. and I’m sweating in the garage.

Feeling sick

I have been spinning for over 2 years and attend at least 3, if not 4, sessions a week. I am fit, of a healthy weight, and bring 500ml of water to drink in a 30 minute class.

At least once a week, towards the end of the class, I have to reduce my intensity as I start to feel sick to the point where I'm scared I'm going to vomit. I'm genuinely calculating the distance between my bike and the nearest bin.

I find that this happens mostly when my heart rate is in the upper end of zone 4 (according to my watch, I am aware of inaccuracies there) so I have to ease off and keep it in lower 4/upper 3.

This morning, I had breakfast 2 hours before my class but I drank two strong coffees, so maybe that was it? I woke up quite hungry though, so maybe I was under-fuelled?

Any advice? Tia!

Experiencing foot pain after switching from cages to TIEMs

Hey everyone,

I’ve been spinning regularly for about 4 months now at Equinox and absolutely love it. I recently made the upgrade from regular sneakers in the pedal cages to a pair of TIEM Slipstreams with SPD cleats, and the difference in the workout is amazing.

However, I’ve been having some foot pain after riding in them, towards inside of foot , and it usually lingers for about a day.
When I first got them, I had REI install the cleats, and they set them up in what they called a "standard/middle" position. But given the discomfort, I think the alignment is off for my specific stride, and I don't totally trust a general outdoor store to get the fine-tuning right for a spin bike. My instructor actually recommended I take them to a dedicated local bike shop to get them properly adjusted.

Before I do, I wanted to check in here:
* Has anyone else experienced foot pain or a transition period when switching from cages to clip-in spin shoes?
* If you ride in TIEMs, where do you find your sweet spot is for cleat placement (forward, back, angled)?
* Any tips on what I should ask the bike shop to look for when they check my alignment?

Would love to hear your experiences and any recommendations you have for getting the perfect fit. Thanks !

knee's still kinda tender but did incline intervals anyway

Did my first incline interval session since PT—slow start, but weirdly motivated at 5am. Anyone else find early sessions hit different?

Think I just stink at spin

I’ve almost taken 150 classes (super proud of myself for continuing despite being 38 and feeling like the oldest person in the room 😂). I still have trouble with fast runs and jogs out of the saddle. I find I have more much power seated (I can go fast. Probably too fast. I’ve made the bike shake). I’ve tried upping resistance but then I find I still either can’t go as fast as others or stay on beat. I don’t have any kind of tech that tracks my rpms so I technically don’t know how fast I’ve been going. So I just stay seated and pedal my little heart out.

And my “dance” moves make me look like a flailing baby giraffe. I get super off beat (I’m up when everyone else is down; I’ve considered that I’m “up” too high and so it takes me too long to do the crunch) and then I end up not doing them because I’m embarrassed. I tried to do a push up in position 2 and actually ended up elbowing the person next to me. Never did that again. I felt horrible. Haven’t mastered tap backs either. I can tell I use my arms too much to “pull” myself forward instead of core strength sliding back and forth. Feels like I haven’t mastered anything!

Do I just stink at spin? I love it as a form of exercise but I’m usually so self conscious

Edit: thanks to everyone for the tips, tricks, and advice! I really appreciate it

Smart indoor bike for automatic resistance on route rides, without a built in screen?

Hi all,

I’m looking for some advice on a smart indoor bike setup.

I used to use the bikes at the gym and really enjoyed riding scenic routes on screen where the resistance automatically changed with the route. I’m now looking for something similar at home.

I don’t really need a built in screen, as I’m happy using an iPad. What I care about most is:

  • automatic resistance changes during route rides
  • solid and stable bike feel• not being locked into one expensive subscription ecosystem
  • good long term reliability
  • ideally not spending silly money, although I’m open to £700+ if it definitely does what I want

I was originally looking at the Horizon 5.0IC because it has motorised magnetic resistance and says it works with apps like Kinomap and Zwift. One Fitshop sales adviser told me that the Horizon 5.0IC with Kinomap will automatically increase and decrease resistance during route rides without manual adjustment.

However, I’m not completely sure that is correct. I’ve seen other information suggesting that “compatible with Kinomap/Zwift” can sometimes just mean the bike sends data to the app, rather than the app actually controlling resistance. Another fitness shop also couldn’t confirm whether the Horizon actually supports app controlled resistance.

So my question is:

Which indoor bikes or setups definitely allow automatic resistance changes during route based riding?

I’m not tied to Kinomap specifically. I’d be happy with Zwift, Rouvy, FulGaz or any similar app, as long as the resistance actually changes automatically with the ride.

Has anyone here used any of these setups, or can confirm what genuinely works?

Thanks.

Studio grade spin bike rec

I am opening a spin studio coming this fall. After doing my research i was dead set on filling my studio with stages SC3’s as this seems to be the most durable and popular bike.

I recently found an ad to buy another studios bikes that im not 100% familiar with.

The Spinning Star Trac black belt
&
The Spinning blade

Im looking for some insight into these bikes - experiences, recommendations, advice etc. as i only have experience with Stages + life fitness bikes.

Thanks
