Dark Sky Party @ Dexter

Alright friends, the big one is a week away. July 11th. Our big Dark Sky Star Party of the summer. There is only going to be one this year, so be sure not to miss it. There will be two quality telescopes given away to children at this event, one for each age group 8-12 and 13-18. Winners also get a year of membership in the Astronomical Society.

We decided to hold this party at Dexter State Recreation Site again this year in spite of the new $10 per car parking fee. We recommend carpooling, or bringing your State Parks Pass if you have one. The Eugene Astronomical Society will be able to pay for a limited number of parking passes for some visitors. You don't have to accept it and can "pay it forward" to someone that could use the help if you can pay the fee on your own.

The dark sky at Dexter makes for some excellent observing. Everything you can see from town looks so much better out there, and you will be able to see some things that are nearly impossible in town.

Come and see galaxies, nebulae, star clusters and more through dozens of telescopes.

This event is so much fun, it's actually what got me hooked on amateur astronomy. Check the EAS event page for more details.

Daycare recommendations

Hello! I’m looking for daycare for my 1 and 4 year old. Anyone have any recommendations I could take a look at? My 4 year old is off from school for the summer and my family will no longer watch them after this month.

Thank you :)

Looking for landscaping for a senior in Eugene (yard cleanup)

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for local recommendations for a reliable, honest landscaping company or independent contractor in Eugene to help my future mother-in-law.

She is 76, widowed, and on a fixed income. Her backyard has become heavily overgrown, and she has no family willing to assist with the upkeep or a clean up.

We aren't looking for anything for free, but because she is a senior on a budget, we want to find someone reputable who will treat her fairly and give her an honest price. The immediate need is a one-time major cleanup to get the overgrowth under control, starting with a free, no-obligation estimate.

If you know of any family-run operations or independent landscapers who are great to work with, please let me know.

Thank you in advance for your help!
