I actually love Hunter's PS1 model. Looks so huggable.

Hunter in the PS1 games always seemed to me as a goofy, dopey, somewhat awkward guy who would trip over a banana peel, forget basic things and do stupid stuff for the sake of it (he literally refused to give Spyro the orbs and made him do challenges just to get them), but at the same time he is not a complete fool. We see that he's pretty damn good athlete and great at various sports (damn you for that crystal challenge in Magma Cone!), it's just that he is not the brightest tool in the shed. He always had that "goofball protagonist sidekick" energy kinda like Goofy with Mickey and Donald, or Tigger from Winnie The Pooh. That's part of his original charm, no wonder Bianca fell in love with him. Seems like a wholesome guy you would love to hang out with, TO BE HONEST.

The Reignited version, while great, has made him lose that goofy charm and made him way hard to look "cool", he kinda has that "How do you do fellow kids" energy lol. Feels like that one guy in a modern world who is trying to live like he's in the 90s. While i certainly appreciate a lot of things Reignited did, i kinda think Hunter is the one who's lost part of his dopey charm. This model seems so stupid, aggressive, and huggable at the same time i can't lmao

Spyro Gemstone set is one of Summer Games Done Quick 2026 grand prizes

The Spyro gem set made it as a grand prize for SGDQ 2026!

Its so awesome seeing your own work out in the wild helping raise money.

Set is made of Cubic Zirconia. Each stone is ~8mm. The yellow stone is ~10mm.

Designs were done by myself with lots of help from u/cowsruleusall

The video has up close shots of each stone.

Imagine if Spyro got the Mario treatment back in the day and has now a big variety of different Spin-Offs like Spyro Kart, Spyro Party and Spyro Smash. Who would you want to be in these games and who would you main yourself?

For me it's got to be Sgt. Byrd! He's my favorite playable character aside from Spyro in YotD. Woult main him alongside Spyro and Hunter.

Does anyone else feel Lonely playing Spyro 1??

While the second and third games have a vast array of characters, Spyro 1, being the first, doesnt. You just go to level, find gems, leave. That's basically it which is fine.

This is my third time playing Reignited, by the way. I think the game is so beautiful , and i love exploring and coming up with my own "head canons of each world.

I cant help but think, as I play Stone Hill, that these levels almost feel like "Forgotten Worlds", like they have history they're rich in, but they feel abandoned. Spyro just wanders, and hes forced to make his own assumption about what this world is. Even with our dragons. They kinda just leave after finding them, and we can replay them whenever we want, but this world feels rather lonely.

Also, final thought about Stone Hill: there's a perimeter of alters with purple diamonds lining the area, and its protected by a forcefield, stopping Spyro from leaving. Do other worlds have this? I remember making this same observation the first two times ive played, and i dont remember other worlds having this, so i am curious what/who put them in place. Its like Stone Hill is locked up

Which Spyro design is your favorite, and why?

Which Spyro looks the best, in your opinion? Does a specific version already have everything you'd want, or would your ideal design blend details from different versions together?

I grew up in the 90s-2000s, so I definitely have nostalgia for the original trilogy. It was my first open-world game and my introduction to Insomniac. The Reignited Trilogy's design improves on some aspects of OG Spyro for me, such as refining his horns, making his chestplates and talons more angular, and giving his eyes more color + expression. Even the spiral conch shell tail tip looked sharper, possibly due to the more diagonal swirl lines.

The updated wing stem pattern and making the iconic eyebrow ridges look more attached to the head (instead of separate pieces, like a ventriloquist dummy's) were improvements, too. Unfortunately, while Reignited is more detailed in some areas, it also changed or removed a couple of details from his old design that I liked: Chiefly, the wings' fingertip claws and the shape of the gold fin-like crest between the horns. Reignited's crest looks good, but I prefer how the first point at the front was shaped in the OG design. Specifically, the bottom half curves outward slightly before the top half curves in. Hopefully, you understand what I mean, looking at the two side by side.

I like how the front point originally stood out more, almost like a smaller third horn that grew together with the rest of the spikes going down his head & neck. I don't care for how the latest incarnation appears to have changed the crest to spiky/wavy hair. That reads more like a horse's mane than a dragon to me, at least for this character. The added diagonal lines in the eyebrow ridges weren't needed either, but I don't strongly dislike them.

I admit, I'm likely biased on both counts. Spyro, without that sharp, solid, dinosaur-like crest, is like Link without his Phrygian cap. It just looks off to me. The lighter-purple scales lining his spine on either side of the gold spikes, which were more prominent in 2 onward, I would darken. Spyro's ideal "skin" scale pattern, I think, should look more cohesive in color with the same deep violet. The lighter purple scales aren't bad, per se, but distracting to me and remind me a little of Godzilla. Now, we come to the big, flashy, epic fantasy elephant in the franchise.

Legend Spyro looks cool while remaining recognizable enough, especially in the third/final entry. The new horns and lack of an interconnected crest were turnoffs, but the spinal spikes being red & gold like the wings was an interesting choice. Giving the wings thumb claws was also nice. Overall, I thought this era had the best artistic balance in A New Beginning-The Eternal Night. Dawn of the Dragon's model was intimidating, but over-designed, in my POV (Granted, I know that game was from another developer). The more bony wing stems weren't necessary at all. The barbs on the chestplates' corners were interesting. In the pursuit of trying to make the character look more adult, I think all those extra bells & whistles clashed with his anatomical genius in simplicity (similarly to Crash Bandicoot's Titans era).

To review: if I had to choose a favorite design, Reignited probably takes the cake, but I'd add a few things to take it over my "perfection" finish line: The front of the crest would return to the OG curve. I'd keep the more colorful eyes, but make the irises a little darker purple than the body (Perhaps it could fluctuate with the lighting). The wings would include the fingertip and thumb claws, both with a protruding nail. The scale pattern would remain streamlined. I'd keep the spikes' color entirely gold, but separate the ones running down the back, like the Legend version.

This game didn't need to end on such a banger!

I just finished eternal night a couple of days ago, that ending was so peak imo, and the song in the credits blew me away, THIS is how you end a game. Not sure what to expect from dawn of the dragon, hope it's good as the last one. If you happend to play it, what was your reaction to that ending?

Why some of the voices in Reignited don't hit the same

I recently replayed Reignited after news dropped of Realms Beyond. I played Reignited for the first time in 2022 and loved it. It was my first time actually beating 2/3 of them, and my first time playing Ripto's Rage at all. I played the everliving daylights out of Year of the Dragon. That was my comfort game as a kid. I would speedrun that game before I knew what speedrunning was. So, naturally, YotD is the one that's burned most into my memory.

Generally, people love Reignited and so do I. Some of the complaints tend to center around changes though. Nothing changes without changing wrong, even a little bit. It's part of the transitional process and time passing. I love Reignited for what it is, and I'm glad the same devs are doing the next proper installment.

That much said, to connect to the actual post image: Hunter used to have a charmingly sleazy Christian Slater tone to his voice. He wasn't just the basic surfer bro he was portrayed as in Reignited. The purple villagers of Enchanted Towers all sounded like magician/comedian Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller fame. I'm not sure if Hunter was supposed to have a Slater vibe, but I am 100% certain that the Penn impression was entirely intentional. Turning them into pretentious coffee shop yuppies actually does psychic damage to one of my favorite levels from the original Year of the Dragon. I don't hate every change, but I hate this one.

The trouble for these original vibes is that they're pretty dated back to the 90s when the games debuted. I get not wanting to copy everything note for note. But expressing discomfort with these change has been bugging me for around four years and I never really had a space to say it before now. I will collect my free internet validation now and I welcome all discussion about the specifics of the changes (not just these two) from different perspectives -- just don't let it get too wild and out-of-hand Reignited slander, please.
