Jorvik Rewind Drama

Hello Guys!
I‘m sure many of y‘all have heard about Jorvik Rewind. I‘ve had many videos about it on my TikTok FYP and I am genuinely SO tired of all the glaze. Since the project shut down anyways, I want to share all the Information I have collected and sent to Rattle (let’s hope she makes a video about it!) It‘s a lot (and also lots of new stuff added) so get some snacks y‘all :p
This text is a little bit all over the place because it‘s the original text I sent to Rattle with some new info I just added so bare with me lmao
I‘d really appreciate it if you guys would read till the end because this took me hours to collect <3 (and trust me the end gets juicy :>)

edit: you might’ve read this before as i have posted it in another community before. sadly, it got removed by mods. i don’t want to be shut down about this because i think it’s important. might also add some new info i got later.

1. The beta system

This was honestly one of the biggest issues even before the server shut down.

A lot of people felt like the way beta access was handed out was really unfair. There were members who were active literally every day, boosted the server, reached really high levels (some were even in the top 10 on the leaderboard), talked to new members, helped keep the server alive, etc., and they still never got access.

Meanwhile there were people who barely spoke at all who won giveaway spots.

Obviously giveaways are random by nature, but I think the frustration came from the fact that the server kept encouraging people to be active. People spent literal days trying to level up because they thought it would improve their chances, only for random inactive members to end up getting in anyway.

People also brought up that beta wasn’t only distributed through giveaways. Staff also manually chose some beta testers because they were considered “active”, but there were members with significantly higher activity who still weren’t chosen (one of my friends was literally on the top 10 leaderboard and never got beta :/). Whether those decisions were justified or not, the selection process never really felt transparent, so it left people wondering what the criteria actually were.
I also once asked in a live stage how this one person got beta after the server shut down (when no giveaways happened) and well…nobody wanted to answer me! A person messaged me PRIVATELY to tell me that they made some artwork because the staff was sad (boo f\*cking hoo). And I witnessed a person getting beta in a live stage out of NOWHERE! Yay totally fair!!!

The giveaway requirements also seemed to change multiple times.

From what people remembered:

it started as something like sending around 100 messages,
then became Level 10,
and later got lowered to Level 5 after people complained.
That only confused people more because the requirements kept changing and it didn’t really solve the spam problem either. (aside from the message cooldown in the main chat, which btw didn’t exist in or example the german chat!)
A lot of community members suggested alternatives that probably would’ve caused less frustration, like:
guaranteeing beta for boosters (with a limited amount of slots),
giving access to the most active members,
only letting moderators test until release,
or simply waiting until release instead of creating a beta that most of the community couldn’t actually play.

The biggest thing wasn’t even “I didn’t get beta.”

It was more that people felt like months of supporting the project didn’t actually matter.

2. The server shutdown

This is where everything really exploded.

The server basically disappeared overnight.

Almost every channel was removed, but the stage and stage chat stayed open. Naturally, around 4,000 people immediately started asking what happened because from everyone else’s perspective, the server had just… vanished.

The biggest issue wasn’t necessarily that the server closed.

It was that nobody really explained it.

People kept asking questions in the Live Stage because they were confused, but instead of getting one clear explanation, different staff members seemed to say different things. The explanations people heard didn’t really line up, which only made everyone more confused.

A lot of people were saying things like “why are people still talking about this?” or “why are people still asking?”

Well… because there were literally thousands of members who suddenly couldn’t access the server anymore.

Of course people were going to ask questions.

Instead, many members felt like staff were getting annoyed that people kept asking rather than actually answering them.

Another thing people found strange was that the stage remained open while almost everything else was locked.

If the server was being shut down, why leave the stage running? So you can flaunt the game to the people who didn’t get beta?

Why were moderators and game masters sitting in stage calls while people were desperately trying to figure out what had happened?

Not to mention that they kept giving different answer! And oh, why did Discord show that some of the original messages people replied to were deleted? Weird…

It just didn’t make much sense from the community’s perspective.

Another thing I‘d like to add was staff talking about Melvika. They publicly said in the live stage that they don’t trust her (which is fair because she supported BSSO even tho Larry/Steve is a huge piece of sh\*t). But why do we have to say that publicly? Especially when Melvika was in the stage moments before??? It happened right after the server shut down. People came into the live stage looking for answers and instead they got internal gossip which is super unprofessional.

3. Communication

Honestly, I think this is where most of the trust started breaking down.

People understand that projects get delayed.

People understand burnout.

People understand that fan projects are difficult.

What people don’t understand is disappearing or giving very little communication after making such a huge decision.

Many members had spent days or close to weeks supporting the project.

People boosted the server.

People advertised it.

People spent hours every day talking there because they genuinely believed in the project.

So when everything suddenly happened and nobody really communicated what was going on, people felt ignored more than anything.

A lot of members weren’t even asking for constant updates.

They just wanted one clear explanation.

4. X

This is where things became a lot more speculative, so take this section as community opinions rather than confirmed facts.

After everything happened, people noticed that X basically disappeared.

Some assumed he was taking a break.

Others believed development had slowed down significantly.

Some people even started questioning whether the August release was realistic anymore.

There were also discussions about burnout.

I don’t think anyone was saying burnout isn’t real.

Most people completely understand that.

The question people kept asking was:

If one person is overwhelmed, why isn’t more responsibility shared with trusted developers or staff?

A lot of members felt like the project had become too dependent on one person, which made the whole situation worse.

Again, that’s community speculation, but it was definitely one of the biggest discussions.

5. Trust

This was honestly the saddest part.

Most people weren’t saying “we deserve this game.”

Almost everyone acknowledged that it’s a nonprofit fan project.

Nobody is entitled to it.

But trust still exists.

The community spent probably weeks supporting Jorvik Rewind.

People boosted the server.

People invited friends.

People stayed active because they genuinely wanted the project to succeed.

When beta was handled the way it was, followed by the server suddenly disappearing with very little communication, a lot of people felt like that trust had been broken.

One person actually said something that I think summed it up pretty well:

***“If X ever decides to work on this project again, it’ll take a lot to win back people’s trust.”***

I think that’s honestly how a lot of people felt.

6. Shutting the community out

After the server shut down, some friends from JR and I decided to make a small community server for JR to keep the community alive.

If we learned one thing from BSSO: the community matters. Same as communication.

So, we made our server. Here are the server rules which will be important:

  1. This is a fan-made JR server due to the official server being paused. None of the Mods are associated with Jorvik Rewind.
  2. No slurs are allowed.
  3. We do not support racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism or any sort of hatespeech.
  4. Remember to keep things SFW incase there are minors in this server.
  5. Do not talk badly about Jorvik Rewind or any other associated project. We want this to be a safespace.
  6. Do not ask about what happened to Jorvik Rewind. Again, we are not associated with Jorvik Rewind and cannot answer those questions, neither will speculating help the situation.
  7. If you at any point want to talk to the Mods due to questions, issues or else, feel free to DM (blablabla unimportant)

In these rules we made it VERY clear that we aren’t associated with the JR staff at all.

So, because we wanted to be transparent with the JR staff, i texted X about the server to let him know. I sent him these rules and explained that the server is simply there to keep the community alive.
He didn’t respond for DAYS. So, I texted two mods. They also took some time to respond but when they did they basically said: „Hey, happy to see you guys care about the community! Don’t mention the server in the JR channel tho. We wish you luck and will let X know.“
They didn’t get back to me. But X did after a long while. And guess what? I was told to shut down the server immediately. I honestly only understand it to a certain degree. Yes, of course it will be annoying if any drama happens, sure. But we made it clear that this is a fan server. Fan servers are super common in games. I was really disappointed to see the community being shut down once again.

7. The Booster situation

After the server shut down, the only way to communicate was in the live stage chat for a long time. After a while, the Booster chat was back. Yes, I think it’s pretty fair since people spent money on boosting the server but then again, what about the people who can’t boost the server?
Also, the booster channel was relatively dead compared to how it used to be which just shows how much engagement they lost with their horrible moderation and damage

8. Connections to BSSO

This isn’t very much confirmed (only to some extent) so take this section with an extra grain of salt.

This is honestly a little bit unclear in some parts but:
I saw X saying that none of the Files or Code are from BSSO. But I saw MANY people say they were and that he once confessed to it.
I don’t know how true that is because from my information, both the BSSO and JR files are from Varsity. I compared Varsity’s files to my own old BSSO files and they are the exact same (except for the custom BSSO launcher). I wasn’t a beta tester in JR but I am pretty sure that it’s the same for the JR files. Now, of course the files will be the same to some extent because you need the original game files. But if the files are infact from BSSO and not Varsity, I think it’s really weird that X said they weren’t. (Game Master Theo said they were from Varsity so there were many mixed reports)

Also, in the 9. point I will mention someone calling Game Master Theo out. That person also said: „your game master was literally making larry money“. If X sold Codes in BSSO isn’t proven but I think it’s worth mentioning.

Also, one of the Mods who later left the server, Kruk, used to be a Mod for BSSO under the name „Manifesto“. Yes, they left the server but still, why would you „hire“ an ex-mod from BSSO? Apparently, X was also formerly involved with BSSO and some of his staff members.

9. Game Master Theo

I received some screenshots of Theo insulting someone who was (as far as I know) from BSSO and called them out. Now, of course being associated with BSSO isn’t a good look BUT does that mean we need to call someone „larry‘s c•mdump, fat b\*•\*tch, fat h•e“ and I quote: „always the poles trying to lick b•lls from p•dophiles and act like they know everything“ (Yes, i have screenshots of this.)
Apparently he also made some other comments but I do not know enough about that.

10. The „Doxxing“ that led to the end of the project

The project shut down because X was apparently doxxed. I received a very long text and I‘ll try to tell the important parts from what I can recall:
A person in the JR server was apparently told by someone else X‘s real name and **public** instagram. That person put „***x‘s name*** or ***x‘s instagram***“ in their server bio as a joke. Now, I don’t think we need to discuss wether or not this was a good joke (it wasn’t) but: that person didn’t have a malicious intent according to them. Also, the instagram account was public. Technically, anybody could’ve found it. And they never mentioned that it had anything to do with X. If this was doxxing is honestly up to you to decide but it’s sad to let other people suffer the consequences of another persons bad joke. On the other hand, I understand that X felt his privacy being at risk.

Phew guys! That took me a while to write! I hope i didn’t miss anything ;-;
If you made it this far, thank you for reading that text! <3
I put many hours into collecting all of this information and really wanted to share them.
Again, not everything is a 100% backed up so take it with a grain of salt.
I do have some screenshots for proof and I‘ll share them if anybody wants to see them.
For now, please stay respectful in the comments and I‘d love to hear you guys‘ opinions on this whole situation! 🫶

And a little side note: why is every single old-sso project so toxic? i wish sso would just make their own old server </3

Cancel «Melvika’s» new Star Stable game

I’m making a new post here, since the other one I made was removed (probably because of the screenshots I uploaded contained a lot of swear words and bullying) I really just want to spread awareness about how the moderators/supports in Melvikas Discord server behave, as a warning. I know this post is a bit lacking without the screenshots, but I’ll be more than happy to send it in private dms/post them somewhere else so people can see, I just don’t know where.

Thanks for the supporting comments on my previous post ❤️
