Does storm really need a rework?
So for some context I'd like to point out that 1.) I only recently got into hero shooters this year so i literally know nothing compared to MOST people. And 2.) while I have been playing Storm more lately just as my own way to show support for the character, I don't think I could be classified as a storm main especially when I consider myself a flex.
3.) I'm pretty much a quick play warrior since I don't feel like I'm skilled enough to play ranked yet and honestly don't really want the stress of dealing with people through comms.
With all that being said though when I first played Storm a few months ago I hated it, because aiming was weird and she was such a slow flyer compared to Ultron and Johnny plus her kit just seemed really boring, random and confusing. I recently decided to pick up her character again because of all the drama that happened recently and even bought her swimsuit skin in hopes that the company will see a boost in sales with storm and give her more skins, emotes and sprays in the future. And after playing her for a while the problems that I had in the beginning don't really seem like big problems anymore.
I remember one of my biggest complaints about storm was how she was so slow in the air and how almost none of my buttons were actually doing anything flashy other than the right click. But as time went on and I learned that her playstyle actually revolves around being closer to the ground with your teammates so they can benefit from your aura I suddenly don't really feel like she's slow at all.
Yeah she can't be in the skybox raining hell from above, but that doesn't seem to be what she was designed to do in the first place when you look at her other abilities. She's meant to enable her team which is why she has a whole aura sphere around her. That doesn't mean she can't flank because she definitely can when it's called for but for most of the games you want to be around your team giving them either to damage boost when they're engaging or the speed boost when it's other time to run away from the enemy, chase down the enemy or rush to a strategist aid while they're getting dove.
As I kept playing her I also watch videos of people who mained her and it seems like everyone's pretty much on board with her being a dps/strategist. And while it does suck that she can't heal using her base kit I feel like that doesn't make her any less of a strategist especially when strategists aren't strictly heal bots.
In the time I've been playing her I actually have been really enjoying it which is a surprise to me since while I was playing OverWatch I actually did not like any of the DPS characters, and even when I first started rivals I pretty much only stuck to strategist and tanks.
So when I see people talking about how netease needs to give storm love and rework her character it's honestly pretty confusing to me. I understand who storm is in the comics and what powers shes meant to have, but giving her too much control would be OP. When it comes to things like ice she can easily get that in the future team up with Luna snow or Iceman whenever he's added, and as far as rain goes there's literally already a team up for that right now, and to get the button you don't even need a Jeff on your team which is awesome.
A boost to her speed so she can zip around like Ultron and Johnny feels both unneeded and unnecessary. It might help with the hero fantasy but if you give her that movement ability more people will feel like they can fly off away from their teammates and focus more on getting kills instead of actually fighting together which is sometimes called for, but her character is centered around enabling.
So what does she really need a rework for? I mean personally I like hitscan better than the projectile wind blades but if I hop in a few AI matches for a bit the aim will come to me eventually so haven't hit scan is in a needed thing and her damage is pretty damn good so what exactly is there to change about storm?
Tldr: Why exactly do people feel like storm needs a rework when she's perfectly fine as she is now?
