Ableton or studio one?

Just wondering people's thoughts. I make psychedelic / progressive rock . Long form songs with real instruments but I also want to do heavy electronic layers and fx. I like experimental sound design but still traditional songwriting. I want to run into happy accidents so to speak .

I love abletons sense of experimentation and ease of making things weird . Feel like modulation is easy , max for live. Feel like warping and time stuff is awesome .

BUT I love how great studio one is for mixing and organization. And ARA integration! I use melodyne a lot. Honestly that's the biggest selling point.

So wondering your guys thoughts . I'm leaning Ableton but ARA support is really enticing me for studio one. I've demod both but feel like I'm at a pivotal point.

S1 on a tablet

Maybe it's more common than I thought but, does anyone have any experience installing studio one and using it on a tablet? I was recently given a 10 inch tablet and thinking about how convenient it would be for some editing purposes away from the studio. How would the work be transferred back and forth?

Bonus question. Does it matter if you open the file from the sng file, or should I open the program first, then load the song, or doesn't it matter?

CHANGE GUI SCALE FROM 125% TO 100% WITHOUT CHANGE IT IN WINDOWS

first, you need to go to Settings, then General, and turn off "Enable High DPI."

  • Completely close Fender Studio Pro.
  • Find the program shortcut icon (on your desktop or in the Start menu).
  • Right-click the icon and select Properties.
  • Go to the Compatibility tab at the top.
  • Click the Change high DPI settings button.
  • Check the box next to Override high DPI scaling behavior.
  • Open the drop-down menu below it and select Application.
  • Click OK, then Apply.
  • UR WELCOME

Default Reverb mode is Pre-fader or Post-Fader?

When I hover my mouse cursor on the send mode, it says post-fader. when I click it, it becomes yellow and says pre-fader.

Can you guys please clarify this thing? I almost gave up right now.

I am using Fender Studio Pro 8.

Mistake in the title: I wrote "Default Reverb Mode" instead of "Default Send Mode"

Studio Pro license with audio interface purchase

I have the Fender Pro Plus subscription but will probably convert it to the lifetime version and not renew the Plus.

I am interested in buying the PreSonus Quantum ES 4 Interface. It comes with a license for Studio Pro. Since I already have a license, does this mean I will get a 2nd license, which I don't need? Can I sell it?

Also, is there any significance to the audio interface still having the PreSonus brand and not Fender? (the ES 4 is not shown on the Fender website interface sales page. ) Maybe no on-going support by Fender?

Redirect the audio output

I tried several different things to redirect the audio output from my Presonus interface box to my computer speakers. I can’t get it to work. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Account No Longer Exists and Missing Purchase History

Hey everyone, I use a Studio One 5 Pro. I don't really keep up to date with what's going on with the newer updates but I see it's now Fender. My account no longer existed, so I created a new one with the same email and now I have no way to get my activation code for Studio One 5 Pro to download it onto another computer. I made a help ticket, but it never sent me a confirmation that it actually went through. Any help would be appreciated!

Roland rompler VSTs always break projects, how to fix?

New to this DAW.

For some reason whenever I load the JV-1080, D-50, or XV-5080 plugins (any plugin that installs to "Roland VS" folder instead of "Roland Cloud"), all the plugin windows in the project basically break and I can't open any of them anymore in that project no matter what I do, including when I add new plugins. Tried it in other DAWs and it doesn't happen. If the windows were open they become blank, and I can't open any plugin windows afterwards. These are 64 bit plugins to my knowledge, IDK why this would happen. Tried out all my other plugins and it only happens with these.

Also, whenever I undo those VST's creation, plugin windows remain broken. I also lose the ability to remove any tracks or instruments after loading one of those plugins. Just completely messes up the project file. All plugins still produce sound, though.

It seems that this would affect any Roland rompler plugin that isn't zenology or part of the SRX series, as those ones work.

Rewrote the interpolation on my chorus after getting corrected

I posted my chorus plugin here a couple weeks ago and someone told me allpass interpolation was the wrong tool for a modulated delay, since the recursive state goes stale while the delay length is moving under it, and that I should look at Lagrange. I was still on linear at that point. So I wrote a 4-tap cubic Lagrange interpolator by hand instead of pulling in a crate, mostly because I wanted to understand it rather than trust it.

What's actually in the thing now, so nobody has to guess from the post:

- 6 ms base delay with the LFO modulating around it, cubic Lagrange on the fractional read. Taps at -1, 0, 1, 2 off the integer index, each one wrapping the ring buffer separately.
- One-pole highpass at 160 Hz sitting inside the feedback loop so the low end doesn't stack up.
- One-pole lowpass on the wet path, cutoff swept by the LFO between 1k and 7k. Most of the character comes from that, not the delay.
- Separate voice struct per channel, LFOs offset 90 degrees. Collapses to mono without eating itself.
- Dry/wet is a plain linear crossfade. There's roughly a 3 dB dip at 50% and I'm fairly sure that's comb cancellation from summing a correlated wet signal with the dry, not bad crossfade math. If that reasoning is wrong I'd like to know.

One debugging note that saved me: check your coefficients at frac = 0.5. They should land on -0.0625, 0.5625, 0.5625, -0.0625. Mine didn't, and it was a typo in one of the products in the third coefficient.

At my defaults (1.6 Hz, about 4 ms depth) the improvement is small. A little less grit on held notes up top. I assume it opens up more if you push the rate.

Two things I still can't answer:

  1. Any reason to go past cubic when the modulation is this slow, or is higher order mainly for pitch shifting and wide sweeps?
  2. The HF droop moves with the fractional part, so slow modulation means a slow wobble on the top end. Does anyone correct for that in practice or is it under the floor at this depth?

It's free, GPLv3, VST3 and CLAP, mac/windows/linux. It's built for pitch-corrected vocals specifically, which is the only thing I use it on. If you'd rather hear it than read about it, it's at pyfessional.tech, the download button picks your OS for you and the source is linked from the same page. Would rather have someone install it and tell me it sounds wrong than get upvotes.

Just got a motion 32 but already have studio pro 8

My question is can I make another email to register the product but then give that email to a friend so he can get studio pro for free and still be able to update and use the motion 32 on my account i already have?

I just dont want to be screwed out of being able to use my controller but I figure this would be cool as he wants to get down on some tracks with me.

Sorry if this dosent make sense but I figured it was worth the ask

Thanks guys!

Fender Motion 16: a little warning.

bought one today as I was mostly interested in an updated SP integration and the feel and sentitivity of the pads.

in a nutshell:

I've used it for 10 mins and I've already encountered a reproducible bug in the chords feature where a given chord would get stuck (both with Mai Tai and Super 8 from NI)

the only way to stop it was to disable monitoring (but it would get stuck again)

also chords are stuck in a given octave (or at least the Octave buttons didn't work in this case) and they're all pretty low which makes them unusable (I wonder who thought that octave was a good sounding default)

As a former drummer I'd say pad sensitivity is sub par because of one reproducible issue:

I've used the same drum library (NI 60's Drummer) which imo has them best deep sampled cymbals.

my test is usually the same: grab a snare and play each division live.

Motion 16 pads are nicely sensitive with single strokes but fail to recognize fast triplets and faster subdivisions like 16th notes when playing a single pad, resulting in a single longer midi input (the MIDI meter in the track detects all of them but the Motion doesn't)

Tried the same test with Maschine Mk3 and gets them all.
Btw, in case someone is interested in having the absolute best pads in the market, Maschine MK3 still is in a league of its own.

All in all, even if it's just 10 mins, was enough for me to return the unit.

it's just not there yet and I was using the newest SP 8.1.2 (Win11 Pro) and latest Motion firmware (1.6) which had a nice bunch of adds and fixes for the Motion units.

Just in case someone is about to pull the trigger.

EDIT: (I added a response down here but I'm copying it here cos I think it's fair towards the unit)

Pads wise I'm happy is working for you because I must say that, being a former drummer, my hands are obvs much more sensitive and anytime I hear "pads are very sensitive" when watching a review I usually skip that info and wait to try myself lol

Maschine as said rules undisputed followed by the MPC One+ I have - where pads are more stiff, less pleasant to play and smaller, but equally sensitive.

Said so, Motion pads are technically solid and good and promising (you can test how sensitive they are easily by engaging Repeat and recording all velocities. they're pretty responsive for me. they just currently fail when performed on a single pad, which is something I do a lot)

I also enjoyed the overall build quality which is on par with Maschine MK3.

I deffo see myself getting the Motion again when it gets more stable.

I currently have an Atom SQ which, might not look good, feels plastic-y, but operation wise is just spot on. it just works. (besides that Shift button placement which isn't ideal)

What are the best tutorials for studio one

Hi guys,

I just bought the motion 32, and in trying to learn how to use it and how to use studio one. I got the basics without needing any tutorials but I'd like to learn how to use everything in studio one. Any recommended tutorials?

Thanks

Internal presets from instruments missing in DAW header

Hi!

Ever since I upgraded from S1 version 6 to Fender Studio Pro 8.1, I have a pesky issue with instruments that have embedded presets. They simply don't show up in the DAW header of the plugin window.
This has become an issue now, because for one of those instruments, which is an older VST2 one, the GUI does not recognize a click in the synth's preset field anymore.
The strange thing is, it works totally fine in all DAWs I have installed - except Studio Pro! For example, FL Studio, Mixcraft, Waveform and even S1 version 6.

There were some tips on the web that I followed, and they made other things work again, because Fender Studio Pro just took over the old installation paths (like the Studio One 6 Content folder) and added stuff there. But these tips did not solve the issue with synths that have their presets embedded.

The instrument, I want it working for the most, is the Orchestral Companion series (Brass, String, Woodwinds)

Extremely thankful for any tips!

Is the a Atom a buy at entry level price in 2026? 65 bucks

I just found a showroom Prosonus Atom at my local music store for 65 bucks and pulled the trigger, it comes with warranty, and it’s in good condition, wondering if it’s still a good device considering it’s a few years old

Just a few odds and ends to finish up, but it’s about 95% of The Way finished.

24 external effects all being sent to as well as returned back into mixers. With engaging them being as easy as hitting an insert engage, alternative input engage, or by sending out of a stereo cue send. I really feel like I was able to make not one compromise when it came to this new route scheme. I really put a lot of thought into the way. I patched it in my bay and achieving multiple parallel signal browsing options. Reamps and di boxes all converting signals as needed.
Second photo contains most of my synthesizer and the third photo has a few more as well as my Drum machines. My DAW workstation has a presonus faderport16 automated motorized mixer to keep my hands off a mouse and keyboard as much as possible.

* left SSL six feeds into ssl six on right. Sending a complete summed stereo mix out into my x8 adat digital input coming out of SSL 12 interface.

* Zed 428 mixer on top is used to be able to track in all of my synthesizer and drum machines. Routing drums to one SSL six and synthesizers to the other… I was not able to really afford a big mixing console that covered all my bases when it comes to channel inputs and I/O options. So it’s not ideal but when properly gain staging, I’ve had very successful results when using it this way.

[Build Check] Used Intel i7-12700 + RTX 3060 12GB for Studio One (Switching from Ableton) & Light Gaming

Hi everyone!

I'm currently putting together a budget-conscious PC build from a mix of used and new parts. I'd love to get some feedback from producers on whether this setup makes sense for my specific workflow.

My Use Case:

  • Music Production: Primarily amateur music production and mixing. I am currently using Ableton Live but I'm planning to switch over to Studio One for recording and mixing vocals and small rock band projects (typically under 30 tracks). My plugin chain heavily involves resource-heavy tools like iZotope Ozone, Nectar, and Waves.
  • My Gear: Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen 3 + Shure SM7B + Cloudlifter preamp.
  • Key Audio Requirements: Low latency during recording is highly important, as well as quiet operation, since I will be recording vocals with a microphone in the same room.
  • Gaming: I mainly play Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, and Chivalry. Gaming isn't the highest priority, but I'd like to achieve a stable 120–140 FPS at 1080p.

The Proposed Specs:

  • CPU (Used): Intel Core i7-12700 or i7-12700F
  • Motherboard (Used): MSI MAG B760 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 or Gigabyte B760 AORUS ELITE AX DDR4
  • RAM (New): 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL16 (DDR4 prices are quite high locally right now, so I chose 3200MHz over 3600MHz to save money. Is the performance loss significant for DAW use?)
  • GPU (Used): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB (Looking at ASUS Dual or MSI Gaming X for quieter fan curves)
  • CPU Cooler (New): Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
  • Case (New): Corsair 3000D Airflow or be quiet! Pure Base 501
  • PSU (New): be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 650W or Corsair RM650e

My Main Questions:

  1. Studio One Performance & Intel E-Cores: How well does Studio One handle Intel’s hybrid architecture (P-cores and E-cores) on Windows 11? Does the audio engine schedule low-latency ASIO buffering correctly without dropouts?
  2. Acoustics: Will the Thermalright Peerless Assassin be quiet enough under a moderate plugin load so that fan noise won't bleed into my vocal mic?
  3. RAM Speed: Will dropping from 3600MHz to 3200MHz CL16 cause any noticeable performance hit in either Studio One or CS2?
  4. Are there any known latency issues with the built-in Wi-Fi/Bluetooth on these specific B760 boards when using a Scarlett Solo?

Any advice, tweaks, or warnings before I start buying the parts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

New workstation

Hey all, I have to upgrade my DAW workstation, which I hate doing, but the time has come. Should I keep my S1 & Pro or upgrade to the new platform? It's tough enough getting all the programs I use to work together on a new machine, but this would honestly be the best time to upgrade. It's gonna be a sucky weekend.

Do bundled DAW licenses work for future major version upgrades?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought the upgrade from Artist to Fender Studio Pro on sale at Thomann for €90, which went smoothly.

I noticed that the new Motion 32s just came out and come standard with Fender Studio Pro 8. Since I already have this license and can't sell the Motion 32 license here, I was wondering if it would be smart to hold onto it until something like Studio Pro 9 or 10 and redeem it then?

Is that even possible? That's basically my question, is that possible at all?
