Question about the Costco / Lawrence Caltrain area

Looking for apts and was wondering about the noise level and congestion of the apartments right next to the train tracks and Costco.

How bad is the Caltrain noise and does the whole apartment shake when it zooms by?

Also I hear bad things about traffic going into Sunnyvale Costco. Is it like that always and how is it during weekends or rush hour?

Cheap produce here ?

I went to a small local produce store yesterday and my jaw dropped. I literally only bought bag with bunch of apples unfortunately was bad ) a few tomatoes, a single cucumber, and baby carrot... and the total came out to $20.
That is absolutely insane! I want to support local businesses, but I just can't justify paying those prices for a single day's worth of basic veggies.
Where is everyone going for affordable, cheap produce in the Sunnyvale/santa Clara I’m looking for fresh fruits and veggies that won't break the bank. Thank you!

good bars in sunnyvale?

Does anyone know of any good bars in sunnyvale or the surrounding area for two 21 year olds on a wednesday night? My friend’s 21st bday is tomorrow and we’re trying to find a bar to go. Neither of us have been to a bar since I also just turned 21 a few weeks ago. I’m trying to find a bar with a slightly younger audience too. I know there’s probably not many on a Wednesday night but just wanted to see.
Thanks!!

Busy road (Sunnyvale) Renovation

We bought a home on Mary Ave in Sunnyvale. It is a busy road, with 4 lanes. But it didn’t bother us, and the location and other factors like Cupertino schools were enough to motivate us to buy.

Now we are thinking of doing an expensive (400K) renovation to this home (adding 600 sq ft), and the main concern is whether we’ll get an ROI on this investment. If we do the renovation we see ourselves staying here for 10+ years because like I said, the busy road which is the only con has not bothered us. But 400K is also a lot of money and would grow much better as an investment elsewhere. We could do a bare minimum renovation for 200K too with adding 180sqft for a bigger master bedroom. But it wouldn’t be the perfect home.

Any thoughts on whether the investment will be worth it on the house, given it’s on a busy street? Our main concern stems from reading / hearing about people not preferring to buy on a busy street.

Should Bay Area school districts copy LAUSD and ban screens in TK, K, and 1st?

Following up on this conversation: https://www.reddit.com/r/bayarea/comments/1sunp4w/will_the_bay_area_follow_la_and_remove_ipads_from/

We have the chance to influence school board policy at the local level. The more Bay Area districts that take a hard look at screen use in elementary schools, the more it will spread locally. Renting vs. Buying at 40 in Sunnyvale

Hi everyone,
My family and I have been renting here in Sunnyvale for about 4 years now and we absolutely love the community. We are hitting our late 30s/early 40s with two young kids, and we’re having the ultimate Bay Area debate: to buy or to keep renting?
My husband is a software engineer with a good income, so on paper, we should probably start looking to buy a home. However, he is incredibly anxious about the future of tech. With all the changes around AI and the constant threat of layoffs, he’s terrified of locking ourselves into a massive Sunnyvale mortgage, only for the tech market to shift and leave us unable to pay or resell down the road.
Because of this, we’re still renting, but I sometimes feel confused and anxious that we are "behind" by not owning a home at our age.
I’d love to hear from others in the area, especially tech families:

  1. Is anyone else letting AI/industry anxiety pause their home-buying plans?
  2. For those who chose to be long-term renters in Sunnyvale, do you regret it or do you prefer the flexibility?
  3. How are you balancing the desire to plant permanent roots here with the unpredictability of the tech job market right now?
Would love to get some experiences or advice. Thank you!

We want to prepare for first dance and we don’t have any fundamental training.

Lockheed Sunnyvale

Greetings! I’m an LM employee who is relocating to Sunnyvale, CA.
Can anyone there point me to which areas/neighborhoods I should look into moving?
For context, it’s just me, wifey, cat & dog. Apartment or small townhome preferred. I don’t want an hour long commute, and ideal budget is no more than 5000-5500 all in.

Tipsy Putt worth going to or just hype?

Saw some mixed opinions about Tipsy Putt and wanted to ask here.

Is it actually fun or more of a one time visit kind of place?

Thinking of going with friends this weekend.

Loud bang, power loss for a few seconds, now sirens

Anyone else hear a loud bang in Sunnyvale in the vicinity of Fair Oaks and Old San Francisco and then lose power? Wondering if a transformer blew up from the SUPER windy weather. I'm hearing sirens now too.

A Hollenbeck bus route would improve south Sunnyvale transportation

How do we get a bus route that serves Hollenbeck?

One straight path through S Stelling/Hollenbeck/S Pastoria, with major stops on McClellan, Stevens Creek, Homestead, Fremont, El Camino, and Evelyn.

The existing bus routes in the area (53, 523, 55,...) primarily serve Mary and Sunnyvale Saratoga. This is understandable since these routes are targeted for public schools and a major road.

People living on either side of Hollenbeck, however, generally have cars. But how many people (non-drivers) cannot reach places like De Anza College, Whole Foods, CVS, Sunnyvale library, parks (Washington, Las Palmas, Serra, Memorial), etc., in a practical way while living by Hollenbeck? Biking is not always safe or practical, as efforts to bring bike lanes to Hollenbeck are currently increasing.

Even if this is not a large need for Hollenbeck residents, I believe it would increase residents' participation in local businesses and parks, simply because of the convenience of this bus route. Knowing that there is a solid way to travel already gets people thinking about where they want to go.

Adding a bus route for Hollenbeck would be a major improvement in city life, making travel in south Sunnyvale way more accessible.
