Super8 Loop Player Prototype #10

Built a Super8 loop player that works with "1972 standard" loop cartridges — prototype #10 in my digital‑to‑film journey. Thoughts and feedback welcome!

Synchroniser?

Hi,

I was reading an old book on Super8 filmmaking and reached a chapter on editors/viewers. All fairly normal stuff.

However, it talks about another piece of editing equipment called a synchroniser. I can’t find anything about this and the book doesn’t include a photograph of it.

Here is the description:
This is another editing device, consisting of a bank of sprockets which are mechanically locked to each other. It is an extremely useful tool for the amateur,
who almost invariably projects his camera-original film, rather than a print of it. Because of this, there is a constant risk of damaging the film at the editing stage through repeated handling and viewing. This is especially the case if the picture is being matched precisely to a complex sound track - where the visuals are cut to the beat of a piece of music, for instance. The professional strikes a cutting copy from the camera original. No matter what damage this copy suffers, the former is never at risk. Your alternative is to use a roll of white leader tape as a picture guide-roll. You can write on it, scratch it, punch holes in it or stick numbered labels on it.

I’m struggling to imagine what this is and what it does.

First time buyer

Would this be a good purchase for someone who’s never shot super 8 before? I’ve shot plenty of 35mm

What are your thoughts on Wolfen 200

This is my first time shooting FPP's Wolfen Color 200. I think there was either some kind of damage to the film before shooting, or some sort of quality control issue. It's just too grainy, and at times there seems to be a weird fading on the left side of the frame. Has anyone had similar issues with this film stock?

Can't see the 'Tungesten/Lightbulb' switch that most S8 cameras have on my Chinon Classic 672 Auto Zoom?

I'm confused on how to shoot on 50D, 200T and 500T film using my Chinon Classic 672 Auto Zoom. There are 2 buttons which are visible to me: 'back light' and 'filter'.

I managed to figure out that 'back light' is for when your subject has a bright light behind them and you want to focus on them instead. The filter one I'm not sure about, but I have a feeling it's an older version of the 'tungsten/daylight' switch which I see on almost every other S8 camera that people use?

I want to film on this camera but I'm wary of not having the correct settings on and maybe messing up my footage.

Getting Married Next Month. Had to Hop on the Bandwagon!

Any tips and tricks for what I should do for my test film, digitizing method preferences, and any other input would be greatly appreciated! I've never owned a camera before so other than the YouTube videos I've been watching to learn, I'm brand spankin' new to the hobby.

Why is my color so washed out? (200T)

First foray into film after shooting digital stills for years (Nikon, later Sony).

Picked up a Nizo S560 from MonsterFlips, was tested and serviced prior to purchase. I shot a roll of 200T to get my feet wet and some of the clips you’ll see are me testing through the daylight filter as I wasn’t sure how the color would appear on the 200T after sunset (I know it’s not a good nighttime film type, just testing).

I feel that the color is very washed, does it just need color grading or was it overexposed? The light meter batteries are using adaptors and modern button batteries but the meter test system shows the correct voltage (appears as 8 on the aperture bar).

Developing

Does anyone have a good place to get film developed/any tips on scanning the film yourself. I was searching online and the cheapest for develop and scan was like 100$

Wedding in Super8 - digital

Here’s a short wedding film I shot in Mexico City. I experimented with switching back and forth between digital and film, a few transitions didn't quite hit the mark for me, I think the film style really shines toward the end.

Canon 512XL not advancing film

It seems that my Canon 512XL is not advancing the (Kodak Vision 3 50D) film cartridge.

Exposure meter lights up and is responsive
Battery check is in the blue zone
Film transport indicator is spinning when you press the shutter lever

The camera has a magnetic shutter release, could the issue be related to that?
