Title! Just ordered a canon single 8 518 and looking for film! Thanks for the help

I have a Bauer C107xl in my hot little hands. The knob to adjust the diopter is frozen in place. It came to me like that. It sounds like it’s running great but can’t focus properly with the eyepiece seized up all the way to the “+”

I’ve taken it apart and poked around. I’ve tried some gentle heat from a hair dryer to soften any old grease. I have tried a few drops of spirits and naphta to try and loosen up any old grease. Nothing has worked.

I’ve been chatting with Phil from Pro8. He had a Facebook post of him tearing into the exact same camera. However he had to pause that adventure for a bit.

Has anybody here gone through this? Or on the C 108? Legend has it that there’s a service manual out there online. But the top sites that come back on a search seem a little fishy.

Where can I find a place that does super 8 development + scanning for preferably under €50 per cartridge

The work on the modernized Super8 movie viewer continues! Up to about the 30th full revision. The dichroic lenses are looking good, bright and colorless and good magnification, the mechanisms are sturdy and super smooth operating, 21mm precision bearings in the main handle rotator and the finger grip. Trying to gauge interest whether or not to do a limited production with 3D printed parts. These are all FDM printed, a batch would be done in SLA method, smoother finish.

1. Stage 0. Communicate the concept of the cartridge and Super8 loop, vintage Fisher Price "hardware" can be sourced and used. Its a cool little media ecosystem. Even the old cartridges can be broken open filled with 12 foot sections of Super8 film and spliced into a loop and viewed. Ebay sourced.
2. Stage 1. This. Re-engineered player. 95% complete. Feels better, works smoother, more weight to it. The glass optics give a colorless clarity that is not in the vintage players. Setting up a prototype/dummy website to imagine the system and product configurator for colors.
3. Stage 2. Re-engineer the cartridges for producing 3D printed versions that can be filled more readily. Screw fasteners, clean setup. About 10% into this reverse engineering step. Will require a lot of proofing of the SLA prints and tolerances, this is a tight balance to get the film gate and "shutter" to play in both directions.
4. Stage 3. Build a Super 8 film recorder setup that will take digital files and record them onto film. About 20% into this project step.

Appreciate all feedback on this obsession of mine to make a 50 year old toy into something for the modern day! If anything is unclear, please let me know!

I've checked all the online stores I know of and it seems to be out of stock everywhere? Anyone know what's going on or where I can find some?

So I got a super 8 camera at a flea market and since my brother (15m) loves taking pictures and videos I thought I'd get it for him since he doesn't have an analog video camera yet, I only found very few film cassettes because they all seem out of stock and also I'm currently looking into ways to digitalize the film but I found this subreddit so I thought I'd ask you guys for tips, tricks and everything you wished you knew when you started (and also camera film recommendations, but I think I'll get him kodak film when it's back in stock/if I find some in a store)
