My first Super8 Short Film! It's artsy fartsy trash, but I learned a ton.

I finally shot a weird, artsy short film on real Super 8 film in my 30s… and the process completely ruled.

Every shot cost money. Every take mattered. It forced me to slow down, plan more carefully, and think about filmmaking differently than I usually do shooting digitally.

The whole thing messy, creative, and strangely personal way to learn new stuff about my process.

It reminded me that trying new things creatively is still important, even after years of making weird flicks.

Would love to hear what you think.

Got my first Super 8 camera finally!

Got this Yashica Super-40 Electric Zoom on EBay “for parts or repair”. It was in the original box with even the original battery cell (which obviously I threw away!) and in such good condition for a great price, so I decided to go for a gamble and it worked! This camera is absolutely gorgeous and super clean, and I can’t wait to finally enter the world of Super 8 after being a lifelong 35mm shooter. Everything on it works besides the battery checker. No batteries had exploded inside it or anything, it’s like whoever had it barely used it. It had some old film I used to test the advance mechanism and it worked. I also checked the shutter and it works great too, I can’t wait to test it with actual film. Just gotta wait to get some money to get it. If anyone has any tips or anything on how this old Yashica works I’d love to hear it! It came with a manual, but it wasn’t a whole lot of help sadly.

Need help finding GFs first camera

I want to give my girlfriend a Super 8 handheld camera for her birthday. She is studying film, so the camera will definitely get a lot of use. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue about them, which is why I wanted to reach out to the community to see if there are certain cameras to stay away from, or others that are considered the absolute gold standard.

I'm willing to spend a bit of money, though it's not a strict must. During my search so far, I stumbled upon the Canon 514 XL and 514 XL-S, which can be found at very reasonable prices on different marketplaces. However, I'd really love to give my girlfriend something that guarantees high quality and durability.

What would you recommend?

Why is this happening?

sorry if this is a daft question, but why is the film stuttering so much?

Back in COVID I got into Super 8 and other 70s-80s film formats, stole my granddad's projector (Bauer T600 Stereo-Sound) and a few Mikey mouse movies, and it worked fine then. I even got a copy of The Empire strikes Back on Super 8 from eBay.

Fast forward to now, my brother's friends boyfriends birthday is coming up, and he really likes 80s blockbusters like back to the future and star wars, so I thought it'd be cool for him to watch star wars on film. I got the projector out of the attic, and put in Mickey, just to find that the film is stuttering like crazy. I checked online yesterday, and reseating the gate and pressing the loop lever helped, but it still left me with significant stutter. Does anyone know the cause of this? Thank u in advance :)

Agfa microflex 200 repair

This might be a long shot, but we had to open up our Agfa MThis might be a long shot, but we had to open up our microflex 200 because a screw dropped behind the plate that holds the film gate. Now we are unsure where the double hook part goes. Also, we are on a mission to try and fix the aperture, but not sure whether it's easier to go from the lens-end, or the back (the area shown in the pictures). Super8 wedding videographer

Hi everyone!

We’re a couple planning our wedding in Spain in 2027 and we’ve recently fallen in love with the idea of having a Super 8 film made of our wedding.

We’re looking for a filmmaker or content creator who works with Super 8 (or hybrid Super 8 + digital) and we’d love some recommendations or advice from people who’ve done this before.

A few things we’re curious about:
* What is a realistic budget range for Super 8 coverage of a wedding day?
* Are there specific creators or studios in Spain or Europe you would recommend?
* Is it common to combine Super 8 with digital coverage, or is it usually separate?

We’re drawn to that nostalgic, timeless, slightly imperfect cinematic feel; something that feels nostalgic.

Any recommendations or experiences would be super appreciated :)

Thank you!

First Super 8 Cartridges!

Hey all!

Just got done with shooting my first two rolls of 200T. Sadly, first one jammed 3 times.. and after the 3rd time of reloading it wouldn’t advance anymore so I had to pop in the spare. Luckily, no issues with that one.

Still want to get both cartridges dev + scanned. I’m hoping I at least got a minute or so of usable footage from the first cartridge.

Shot on the Canon 518 Auto Zoom.

Is The Negative Space the best bang for your buck and turnaround time these days? Thanks!

Gaf s70

Has anyone worked with a Gaf s 70 before and know where the battery compartment is? I can’t find it, and the film/video store couldn’t either. It’s not in the handle. I accidentally threw out the guide book.

Fixing a super 8

Is it affordable to get a super 8 tested? I want mine tested and fixed. Never used it before but it’s in great “looking” condition. I live in Utah and every camera store says that they won’t work with super 8 Canon cameras:(

Super 8 film: no film seen

Hi! I was shooting and went to take a roll out and there was no film shown. This was near the end. Is this film able to be saved? Thoughts?

Is this scratch a 'beginning mark' or damage caused by the advancing claw?

My friend seems to believe that even after advancing the film is rewinding itself and showing this 'beginning scratch'

She sent a full cartridge in for developing and the lab sent it back because it was not yet exposed according to them, because they could see this 'beginning scratch'

Is this really present on all rolls of film? Is it possible the camera is doing this at all? It seems really unlikely for the cartridge to rewind itself, considering it generally only wants to move one way
