Some photos from a new model railway show that took place at the STEAM museum this weekend

This new show was a blast to visit and was called beyond steam, it focuses on modern era railway modelling. Here is a video of the show for anyone who was unable to make it that is interested: https://youtu.be/46z8UcmiqRQ?si=Z239cIINIi2OZobP

Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Former cowshed, now community garden (in progress) at the Richard Jefferies Museum

The community garden - the first phase in the complete rejuvenation of the grounds surrounding the Richard Jefferies Museum - is coming along really beautifully. One thing we've uncovered is this amazing cobbled path.

Jefferies was born here, and it was a farm at the time. Where the community garden sits was once the cowshed! It's really fascinating for everyone to get hands-on with the history of the place.

We won't be excavating the entire thing, but we are definitely restoring some of it, as you can see here. It's a sight to behold, and our volunteers are doing wonderful work.

Eyelash Extensions in Swindon

Hello, anyone knows or can recommend a place in and around Swindon for eyelash extensions? I have looked around at the top google searches but a lot of places are either not taking on new clients or are fully booked months in advance. I also work full time which makes it difficult to find someone to do it outside of 9-5 or on weekends.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Poor data transfer in the last month (giffgaff/o2)

Has anyone else experienced poor data transfer over the last month or so? I'm on giffgaff (o2 network) and so is my dad and we both have experienced the same thing.

Shows good signal & 4G yet internet does not work?

Volunteers for Excavation Swindon Area

Hello. We are running archaeological field schools again this year near Swindon (Highworth area). Open to all, so if you want to gain hands-on archaeology skills—excavation, surveying, artefact handling—and be a volunteer on our summer dig then please give me a DM. Places are limited. We also have a lot of post-ex work to do as a result of excavation earlier this year for those interested.

DM me if you are interested in joining or I will be uploading specific information for the season on Reddit in the next week or two: https://www.reddit.com/r/HeritageVolunteers/

Anywhere in Swindon got one of those height-measuring machines?

Weird question I know lol but I need to know my precise height for my gym goals and I live alone and get wildly different results whenever I try myself. Anywhere I can get my height measured precisely? Ideally for free or cheap. My gym doesn't have one and I don't know about my doctor's surgery but I don't need an appointment for anything right now.

What's with the drivers not bothering to check their card transactioners before serving?

On multiple occasions, my card, despite so much money that is enough, refuse to be accepted on buses. A handful of times when I had college, the driver becomes so condescending and looks at me as if I was scolded by a teacher or a member of staff back at school. I tell them I have enough money but still to be told that it "is not working" in a very rude tone.

My card is fine, as I didn't need to pin it - for example one morning I was at a near shop buying breakfast and upon paying I needed to pin, but after that heading off to the bus, the transaction refuses to work.

This happened to other school mates who use their cards to pay. As a result, my attendance in my classes had stalled in recent weeks.

Is there anyone on here from the 'Swindon and Wilts young birdwatching club'? I found it on meetup and interested in knowing more but I don't have a membership.

I wish we had a convention in which we are active in public at night while at home during the day in such weather.

We can see this happening in the Persian Gulf as well as Baghdad where people, locals and visitors alike, are out in public, work, education, etc overnight while they rest at home during the day due to the intense heat.

I actually have vibes of being in the Persian Gulf, the clear sunny hot weather just makes me feel as if I am at the stopover in Dubai. I also was watching videos of Dubai and Emirates during these two days.

Anyone else think we should adopt what the Gulf does in heat?

Where are your go to cool places please? Air con, shade, not far from just sitting in the freezer aisle at this point! TIA ❤️

What is Upham Road in Walcot like during the night?

Tonight I will be on my way up to Royal Oak in Old Town to see the match against Ghana. But as the match kicks off at 9pm, and finishes at midnight-1am, I have concerns for safety.

How safe is it walking through that area after dark?
