From the modular community on Reddit: First budget modular synth 👽☢️

Hey I made a post a couple days back regarding what modules I would need to start out doing this. And im strong on a few modules with multi purposes. Would like to know if i just dont know what im doing or maybe some of these arent absolutely necessary. I havent bought any yet but with 40X-HP of room and a bit of mod grid planning, I have currently decided as a strong start for my synthpop, ebm, cyberpunk rock/ industrial setup to go with the following below:

-Dreadbox utopia. 10HP (Being a pretty versatile module from what ive seen and heard, got LFO, Attenuator, mixer, and waveshaper)

-Behringer Victor 10HP and Brains 16HP ( stuck between the two. the knob on victor is super trippy to me and i like that with the usbc out for i dont even know what id use for. Dont even think midi connects to it for my arturia minilab 3 but want to arpeggiate basslines. And the brains which has the host plugin id imavine for midi connection thiugh im probably wrong. Downside with this is it takes up 16HP vs 10HP)

-Bastl Ikarie 8HP (hear epic great things about. Love what it has envelope follower, filter, VCA, and dual stereo. Sick distortion!)

-Pico DSP - 2HP (all your atmospheric effects with included distortion)

Now heres the tricky part..
I want a Catnip 2HP distortion. Probably dont need though. But which wont fit now that I also want to cram into this case is the MFX ALM032 Busy Circuits becauee from what ive seen. It does great ambient textures allows headphone plugin ( oh theres that too, where would i plug my headphone into, no room for a 3 in 1 headphone, plus clock, and midi to CV ). Of all id rather toss out the catnip and victor to maximize for a separate headphone, midi-> CV, and clock.

Also through in as options. Behringer midi to dv, with the host and midi pins…. And a ALM stereo sum might be unnecessary

I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE. AT LEAST ONE MODULE THAT CONTAINS A SCREEN ON MY BOARD BECAUSE I LIKE SEEING SOME KIND OF FREQUENCY OR WAVES MAKING IT MORE TECH LIKE IM STARING AT A VINTAGE FACTORY CONTROL PANEL. I KNOW THATS WEIRD.. AND plan on adding some decor aesthetic parts to give it a super scifi look. I would like to have some sort of BASTL in there if this isnt the right one. I really dont know

I cant add photo here after the link otherwise would..

This is such an exhausting mind puzzle but having fun brainstorming so far. Thank you!! 🖖🏻👽👾🤖☣️

Never buy a used Komplete Kontrol

I bought a used s88 from Guitar Center. I got it home and hooked up only to find out that the software was already registered to another person so I can’t get it. What is the point of that? Do they think the keyboard can be in two places at once? Will probably just have to return it after wasting a lot of time. Guitar Center can’t help. Very frustrating experience. I would buy a new one, but I don’t want to deal with shipping and who knows when it shows up. No store in the chicago area has a single decent controller. Just toys. Is this a chip shortage?

First budget modular synth 👽☢️

Hey guys I am officially starting down the rabbit hole of the forbidden modular synthesis i hear which may or may not suck me and my wallet dry. I am looking for budget friendly modules to start out with that will fit a case i ordered ::: 4 ms 40x ::: and i see myself doing this long term. Dont think i want to expand because i know theres alot you can do with very little.

Id like to know if anyone has any good suggestions with the minimal room given. Much appreciated

Genres down here⬇️
———————————
I think I want to go cyberpunk for a little retro 80s synthwave with crazy silly and trippy alien sounds with 8bit a little video game and psychedelia with some darkwave nostalgia scifi ambience, stranger things / star wars esque that can either crossover or have the option to combine or have seperate sounds on their own with other modules that can produce dystopian/ goth 80s-2000s industrial and aggrotech EBM / TBM sounds.

All around id say artists ranging from depeche mode, the cure, eat static, tobacco, gary numan, new order, perturbator, twin tribes, bowie, NIN, ministry, skinny puppy, marilyn manson, xrx, combichrist, phosgore, etc….. wow what a mouth full.

But i know theres probably a couple essentials like VCAs/ attenuators i probably need to make room for, which also like to get a combined one with possible usb plug in if an option but like modules that can do 2-3 different sounds in one maximizing my space. My main setup consists of a korg volca drum, juno 06-A and I have a scarlett focusrite , arturia minilab midi keyboard and i use logic pro. Thank you for making it this far reading this mess of a post 🤣🙏🏻

Those Of You That Have The Deepmind 12

What are your thoughts of the Deepmind 12?

Pros and cons. How might it compare to the JN80? Between the two which do you consider the better synth? The Deepmind 12 costs more

than the JN-80. The Deepmind 12 has DCOs as does JN80.

Does Anyone have a Moog Muse & Polybrute 12

Was wondering 🤔 what your opinion is comparing and contrasting between the two.

‘Different synths and synth architectures and price points. Do you favor one over the other?

Ho 2 korg electribe 2 con hacktribe + 1 mixer 4 canali senza fx. Cosa potrei comprare che sia facile da usare senza troppi menù per migliorare i miei liveset?

Current Market for Minimoog XL

Hey folks, I have a somewhat simple question: What’s the current market like for Minimoog XLs? I have a white one, mint, barely used. I’m considering parting ways with it because I don’t use it and it’s a bit of a tragedy that it no longer gets the love it deserves.

Is there still a lot of interest in community for this synth? Has the new crop of Moog synths dampened interest in it?

I realize this is a somewhat naïve question for an owner of this synth. I’ve been out of the game for over a decade but prior to that wrote and produced a lot (also for about a decade). Any insights from the community would be appreciated.

And yes, I know you can look in Reverb, etc. but that’s only one lens. What I’m looking to understand is more personal perspectives on this synth’s place in a studio and if it has a specific value that has been maintained as other synths have come on the market over the years.

Midi controller advice

Hi any any suggestions for midi controllers?
I need mangled ultra potable controller for these synths.
Woove box
Nts
Nano box lemon drop
Orba 1
Roland s 1 p6
Currently do not have s1 or p6 with me.
I need ultra portable.woovebox buttons are random retriggered. Orba 1 surprisingly dose not midi controllers. I world use s1 control but is not with me.
Thank you very much
Context of photo I was jamming in plant cafe China. Nice time but super hot humid Shenzhen China. My tolerance for big or heavy gear is low.

CS-80 chorus/tremolo — does a standalone DIY or commercial clone exist?

The CS-80's chorus/tremolo runs on two MN3005 BBD delay lines mixed differently for stereo, with the tremolo being the same circuit at faster LFO rates. Genuinely unique topology.

Has anyone extracted this into a standalone build? The Deckard's Dream Expander would be the obvious answer but good luck finding one. Generic BBD chorus pedals (Small Clone etc.) don't quite nail it. the dual stereo mixing and the sine LFO behavior feel different.

anyone's published a schematic inspired by the OE2 board, or knows what existing design comes closest??
