Payroll hours

So we are being made to march hours scheduled versus hours budget not actual dollars. Anyone out there can explain why? We are literally under payroll 200 and being made to cut hours because it’s over in hours. I am baffled on why it matters

Maintenance shift homegoods

This Saturday I’m working a maintenance shift which I’ve done before a few times, however if you are scheduled for a maintenance shift with a certain manager she makes you clean the toilets, which I refuse to do. I do not know which manager is scheduled for opening, but if I get asked to clean the toilets will I get in trouble if I say no? Would it be bad if I ask to not schedule me for maintenance shifts? All the past times I’ve had a maintenance shift I got lucky and didn’t get the manager who makes you clean the toilets.

What do I do?

I recently updated my availability at work due to my summer class schedule, changing it to weekends only. My store manager approved it, but I’ve still been scheduled on Fridays multiple times over the past few weeks. I brought it up several times (calls and in person), and was told it would be corrected. Management also mentioned there may have been technical issues with the scheduling system (WorkJam). In some cases, shifts were eventually removed after follow-ups, but the issue kept happening.

I’ve tried calling the store to speak with the manager-on-duty, I’ve spoken to managers directly (during my shifts or on my breaks), and I’ve been able to find coverage when possible, but I’m still not sure why this keeps happening or why I’m still being held responsible for shifts outside my approved availability. Each time I confront management about this issue they always say that “they’ll fix it” or that “they’ll cover it” but I never see any changes on the WorkJam app regarding my schedule, so it’s hard for me to believe them when they try to reassure me.

They scheduled me for this Friday and I can’t show up. I don’t have enough sick hours to call out, and I’m worried about getting penalized if I can’t find coverage. I’ve already tried, but nobody’s available to take it. I really need to keep this job for college expenses, so I’m trying to figure out what my best move is at this point.

P.S; I’m been working at my store for about 10 months right now. I haven’t faced any scheduling issues in the past, I’ve been very consistent with showing up to work (I only ever call out if there’s an emergency), and I do really well in CC sales so typically I get a good amount of hours per week (16-24 hours) while being a part-time employee (even with payroll being low at the moment).

Workjam isn’t showing holiday pay?

I know if you are full time you get 7 hours holiday for 4th of July. I just checked workjam (finally fixed but not sure if its 100% finished or not) and it doesn’t show holiday pay for 4th of July when I check my timecards. Is this a new thing with the app?

Coordinator/ closing policy

I’m a soft home coordinator and I have questions regarding closing? I know every key carrier and manager has a different system to who is closing and the way they handle it.

Let’s says a coordinator stays behind with a manager. The manager sets the alarm and lock the store. We wait the alarm goes off to say the alarm is set. I follow the policy and everything was running smooth. I’m entitle to stay behind to walk my boss to her car. When I normally close the store with the key carrier we all go separate ways.

First paycheck problems

I started working at my store two weeks ago, new employees get paid bi-weekly for their first check, I’m at $16 an hour and if I’m working two weeks and 32 hours every week that’s $860 ish with my states taxes

I was paid less than half of that this morning because I get paid a day early through my credit union, it’s about $420

Is this normal or should I speak to my manager?

Update on anti gay managers

Most of my coworkers seem completely okay and supportive of gay people but there is a worker that constantly uses gay people as a joke to make fun of to customers. Now I realize why this has never been addressed before. The managers probably encourage that. Certainly do zero effort to stop it. One of the managers asked me if my tribal grandfather convinced me to be gay. One said in the interview and reiterated in a meeting that she wants to prevent workers and kids from being gay. The other manager told me she thinks people are convinced to be gay after I told her I was a gay conversion therapy patient… this is ridiculous. What the hell TJ Maxx? This is after I told the district manager and Human Resources. They sent me home without pay for talking about a designer being queer and they ALLOW CASHIERS TO MAKE FUN OF GAY PEOPLE RIGHT BESIDE ME ALL DAY?!? If I had money to quit this job dude I would be out of here.

Fuck u Ernie and ur fucking punch clocks

I have 8 hours total this week, 4 of them spread over 2 days in 2 hour intervals. And these greedy assholes change the clocking software so that you physically can't clock in more than 5 minutes before your start time. Like they can't spare you the extra 22¢.

Whatever. I clocked in at 6:55 and didn't do shit until 7:05. Two can play at the time theft game.

Halloween stuff

The Halloween stuff we are getting is already selling already and I just feel a bit angry at customers sometimes. I don’t know everyone’s financial situation but it’s depressing. The overconsumption is insane. Why are you spending $30 on a wooden pumpkin in July? And it’s not just a one off customer. Just wondering where people genuinely get the money. Yet they keep saying sales are down but it’s hard to believe…

HOW ARE PEOPLE SHOPPING SO MUCH IN THIS ECONOMY?

My store has an emergency.

Looks like we are losing like 3 to 4 people who have been with TJX for over 5yrs and just recently had 4 part timers quit due to hours being cut by Ernie. Now as it is we typically close this huge store with only 4 people in the whole store plus 1 manager. I really hope that our CEO is happy because our stores morale in shit. No one smiles and every day it’s the same thing over and over. Nothing is getting done ! Thank you Ernie.

ASM needing to step down

Hi i’m a fairly new ASM. I’ve worked for TJ Maxx for 5 years and I’ve been an ASM for about 4 months now. I started out as a part time associate and worked my was up to an ASM and transferred to a store over an hour away and moved my whole life but I got placed in a pretty bad store that isn’t doing good and hasn’t been making their goals all year. I would like to transfer back to my old store and step back down to a part time associate. Has anyone had this experience and knows the steps I need to take to transfer back?

Store manager swapping coordinators around

I started as a home coordinator. This week our store manager pulled us in the office and stated to give us more experience he was going to swap us around. Next week I start as the beauty/shoes coordinator. Is this a very common practice?

What can I do?

Because of our store switching systems, only two of the managers have the ability to make schedule changes. I found this out when I asked a manager during my shift yesterday if he could take me off on Thursday the next week (it was Tuesday when I asked this). He said he didn't have the ability to make changes, only A and B do.

I call the store the next day and B picks up the phone. Now listen, the reason I needed Thursday off was because I have a final for a summer class. The problem is, my teacher didn't announce the date of the final until Monday. I told B all of this and told her I wouldn't be able to come next Thursday cause I have a final that day. She then proceeded to lecture me about how it's MY FAULT for not notifying them of this three weeks prior for an exam that my teacher only notified us of TWO DAYS AGO.

But then she told me it's my responsibility to find coverage for my shift next Thursday. That's supposed to be the manager's job, not mine! It's not my fault you're understaffed! She said I can release the shift into the open shift pool on Workjam, but the problem is that the shift only appears on the paper schedule (it doesn't show up on Workjam).

I don't even have anyone's phone number to call to ask for coverage. The best I can do is just go to work tomorrow and ask the manager about this cause this isn't right for the manager to dump this responsibility on the employee. And usually I give at least 2-3 weeks notice, but this is something that my professor only just announced, so it's not my fault.

Any other tips and advice on what I can do (besides bringing it up to the manager tomorrow)?
