Anyone up for a vigil or procession?
This happened this morning. I was part of the group trying to stop this. We failed. Many of us in the community are heartbroken. Looking for ideas to gain closure and solidarity. What do you all think about some sort of vigil or procession around the site? Actually, if it turns out to be a popular idea, we could do it every week. Remind those developers constantly of what they did. Anybody down for this?

Where to live in Tacoma?
Hi! My partner and I are moving to Tacoma for my new job at St Joseph - we have no idea where to look for places to live and don’t know where to start. Between the two of us we have lived in Boston, Alaska, Japan and the Bay Area besides both growing up in the PNW, but we are out of the loop now so would love advice on where to look.
We have a dog and would love parks nearby or a place with a yard. I would like to be close to St Joseph for work and preferably also public transport too. It would be incredible to be somewhere were we could walk to coffee or shops and restaurants (no idea if this is possible). We are both pretty community oriented and love to spend time in third spaces or outdoors with friends.
My SIL has said there’s houses in Ruston for 2k a month, is that a good area and is that reasonable rent (it doesn’t seem so in my mind, but I’m currently in a college town paying 1.3k for a tiny one bedroom apartment)?
People also say Tacoma is unsafe - is that true or just the fears of folks? I‘ve walked the tenderloin in SF at night for jazz clubs and also have run to my truck to avoid moose in Alaska so I’m not sure what safety standards are 😅
Thanks so much!
Tacoma Wailing Club
Me and my friend were talking about how we should normalize pained wailing as a way to relieve some emotions. But there's so many people who could benefit from that. The idea is that we find somewhere a little away from houses in the woods, trails, etc. And we walk out at night as a group just letting it all out. We need this, anybody in?
TONIGHT: Parks Tacoma Special Meeting
Many of us understand how important Parks Tacoma is in our community. Many of us are also aware of the current major budget issues facing the department, and I'm sure many of us have questions. (Shout out to the commissioners on social media who have been sharing background and answering questions - it's been insightful).
Tonight, Monday May 18, is a special meeting and public hearing about the budget where all community members are welcome. Comments can be submitted by 4pm today, and verbal testimony during the event is also possible.
6:00pm 4702 S. 19th St. Tacoma • Remote link is also available
All details here, including the meeting link - budget information - meeting agenda etc.

Too often there's folks online complaining (and sometimes, rightly so) about local government and entities (like Parks); there's a lot of opportunities to be involved and informed that too often aren't taken. Here's one of them.

Has Going Out to Eat Become Too Expensive to Even Enjoy Anymore?
For General Conversation...
Since COVID, has anyone else completely lost the desire to go out to eat because of the prices?
I went out three times in the past month; an early Mother’s Day dinner, a birthday dinner at Korean BBQ, and a small moving-away dinner at Applebee's. Each was just 4 people, very limited alcohol, and every bill still landed around $250 after tip.
Maybe I’m just getting old and cheap, but at those prices it honestly ruins my appetite. I actually enjoy cooking at home more anyway, but restaurant prices now feel less like a treat and more like a financial decision. Anyone else feeling the same way lately?
What time do y'all get gas at the Tacoma Costco?
Like the title says. I'm just wondering if there is ever a sweet spot where the line for gas isn't out to the main street lol
Mail service recommendations?
I'm moving to Tacoma over the summer for work. Does anyone have any recommendations for a mail service? As a renter, I find it convenient and helpful, not having to change my address too much or simply having an alternate address.
I really like the one I use in Bellingham, but they are not in the Tacoma area :(
Pierce Transit looking at system expansion plan in November
Pierce Transit may propose a 0.3% sales tax increase on the November ballot to expand service by 40%. This would fund 4 new routes, increase frequency on existing routes, and extend evening/Sunday service. Without it, service cuts could start by 2031 due to rising costs and stagnant funding since it last passed a funding measure in 2002. Vigil for UW student?
Will there be a local vigil for Juniper Blessing the beautiful young lady murdered in Seattle?
I’ve seen posts from other cities and even other states that will hold vigils for her this weekend so I wanted to ask. Might just place some flowers at the UW Tacoma campus in her honor if nothing else.
(Please leave any hate out of this post, have some compassion and self respect).
Can we team up and help a disabled man?
Hello everyone! My name is Joel and I'm looking for a few people to help me out with this man's lawn that lives near the west side of tacoma. Unfortunately his lawn has overgrown and he can't find anybody or afford anybody to come help him. I met him through and OfferUp posting and we got to talking he told me he needed to help with lawn care. I have a couple people that are willing to help right now but a few more wouldn't hurt. You can reach me on here but I may not respond as fast or through myself which is 2534424-060. Let's see if we can get some more help thanks guys!
