Buying a tesla help

As a person looking to buy a used Tesla, I am deciding between a 2023–2024 Model 3 or a 2023 Model Y, either Standard Range or Long Range.

I live with my wife, and we drive around 60 km daily. And hoping to travel also. Could you please help me decide which model and version would be the best option for us

Charge every day?

If you drove 50k every day for your commute to work and back and you have a home charger. Do you charge every day? Or do you charge at the start of the week and only plug in at the end of the week?

Tesla VIN assignation delay.

I ordered my Model YL on march 30 and still haven’t received vin. When I check the tsla.delivery website, most people who ordered on march 30 have received VINS. I have provided my delivery details so does anyone have any idea as to why my car is taking a while? I ordered an Ultra Red with Zen Grey interior. My delivery estimate still says June-July, but do you think I could get it before June 15?

Model Y Pearl White Zen Grey RWD NSW

People who have ordered late March/early April who got moved to the Zen Grey interior from the Black and White.
Have you got VINS or your car yet?

I just went into the Tesla app to check after 5 weeks with no updates to see my delivery window has been pushed back with no notice.

Is that consistent with everyone else?

Crystal ball for next wave of M3 Long Range

Seems the Model 3 long range hasn't had a wave of vins to Australia for a bit now. Assume it was due to focus on the standard M3 and somewhat the performance.

Any thoughts on when the next might come. Assume not likely the ELEKTRA?

I know it's likely no one knows, not even Tesla in Australia.

How much do you pay for comprehensive insurance?

Hello all,

I’m looking to purchase model Y L. Had couple of insurance quotes around $5200 per year.

It’s a massive jump compared to any other cars! Could you share which company do you use and how much you pay?

Seat colours and heat

I'm down to choosing colours (MY). I'm happy to go with black interior with the only caveat/thing I'm worried about being whether they will be too hot on hot days - grey would obviously keep cooler.

But as this is my first Tesla, I'm not really sure whether that should be a concern, given preconditioning and ventilated seats.

Interested in owner's reports, ideally someone who has had both light and dark interiors and how they have felt on hot days. Should I reconsider and go with grey?

Model YL - charging error (UMC_a006)

Hi guys

For anyone who has taken delivery of a YL, or seen this issue on a Tesla.. I am getting an error UMC_a006 when trying to charge my tesla using a mobile charger.

The error only happens when I schedule a charge though and plug in earlier than the scheduled charge time.

If I charge instantly (and have no schedule charge), the car charges normally without this error.

Thanks!

Help! My first novated lease (Tesla Model Y L) which optional inclusions are actually worth keeping vs removing?

Hey everyone, I’m about to pull the trigger on my first novated lease for a MY26 Tesla Model Y L through SG Fleet and wanted some advice from people who’ve already been through this with SG Fleet.

My goal is to bring the monthly deduction down as much as possible while still keeping the stuff that’s genuinely worth it / financially smart.

Note - I may bring my own insurance - AAMI / NRMA / ALLIANZ seem to be at least $1000 cheaper per year.

Autopilot question

Getting pretty close to a purchasing decisions now. It's down to Model Y or VW ID4. One question I have is whether it's still possible to click and double click to swap between Traffic Aware Cruise Control and Full Autopilot with lane keeping. I'm aware that changing lanes will disable Autopilot.

I've read that you can work around this by setting up different profiles with the different setting in each. Does this still work?

Pretty shitty implementation/limitation in my opinion.

Bought used Y with FSD

Context:
I own a MY with just autopilot
Just bought a used MY HW3 with FSD purchased from new

I don’t know anything about FSD as I’ve always disregarded those posts but is it enabled on my ‘new’ car, does it even work on HW3 and do I need to pay anything extra?

Paint protection

How has everyone’s Teslas gone without any paint protection? My apartments parking is very tight and I’m parked between a pillar and a ute. My old car ended up quite dinged and scratched up.

I’m wondering if PPF is worth it? Or if other Teslas have held up well without paint protection? Will ceramic coating help at all?

Is camera based vision system better than exterior radar and ultrasonic sensors for traffic monitoring ? Why tesla removed the radars!!!

FSD WAITING GAME

4 weeks since picking up my Model Y and am still waiting on any kind of update from factory software to be able to use FSD, despite having paid $10k upfront. Anyone else in the same boat of still waiting? Have seen many people posting about getting their OTA updates but I’m still waiting and getting absolutely nowhere when I try to reach out to Tesla customer service.

Tossing up Premium RWD and AWD

As the title suggests, I'm currently tossing up which is the best Model Y option for us.

My head is saying RWD. My heart is not so easily convinced though 😂

It will be my wife's car so she wouldn't really know/care about/feel the difference day to day - except I'm sure she'd appreciate the better sound system.

I'll be the driver on road trips and I love driving so would like the additional power and curvy road handling of the AWD.

Also, being our first EV I think there's a bit of range anxiety regarding longer trips. I asked Chatty to help with a real world scenario - driving ~900km road trip from Melbourne to Mollymook. The main difference was that the trip would take about 30-45 min longer in the RWD sure to slower charging and the need to top up a bit more at each charge (still only 2 charges needed in either vehicle for the trip). From what I've read so far, many people have bought cars with more range only to realise later that they didn't really need it.

We would only be doing 4-5 trips a year that are more than 250km one way.

So I suppose I'm looking for:

a) reassurance that th RWD will be enough for our circumstances

b) reasons why people bought the AWD and whether you are still happy with your decision

The extra $10k isn't insignificant but I'm happy to pay it if it'll be something we will regret later. Planning to keep the car for hopefully 10 years+.
