My wife’ green thumb

For context i dug the holes for the trees and we built the decks. She did 99.9% of everything else. All Texas native and as deer resistant as we could find or do. Located in granite shoals. Shoutout to backbone nursery in marble falls.

Datura

Hello all! Please excuse my ignorance. I bought this plant from my local nursery. I bought it because it was pretty and needed full sun. I had NO idea it was so poisonous. I just stumbled onto the discovery. It is thriving and growing so beautifully. I hate to dump it. My question is: will birds and butterflies die from it? Or will they know to stay away?

Planting in Spring

Two years ago I walked into Costco and picked up a peach tree. I had no experience in planting fruit trees and was worried it would be burned up by our bully summer weather.

With deep watering and constant trimming, im proud to say it’s alive and thriving and already put out its first peaches this month.

So if you’re having second thoughts about planting something this late in the season, i say go for it, don’t forget to water it deep in the summer and trust the process.

Transplanted tomatoes wilting??

I recently transplanted this tomato plant into a new bed, using a mixture of miracle grow soil, and some sort of heb mushroom soil.. NONE of the marigolds, shishito pepper, morning glories nor the tomatoes are happy in there apparently.. all of these plants were transplants from another over crowded bed. Any suggestions on fixing these up? Or would it be from shock from the transplant??

Cattle Panels

If you’re thinking about the best way to trellis your vegetables this summer, i recommend heading over to your nearest tractor supply and picking up a cattle panel. I have tied in both squash and guided tomatoes to it and has worked like a charm.

Do these look leggy?

I planted mealy cup blue sage in Fall 2025. I thought I planted in full sun, but as I observe my garden more it looks more like dappled sun/shade. Do they look leggy? Should I trim to encourage growth for a thicker look? Or should I consider transplanting them to a sunnier location in the fall?

Happy hibiscus season!

Got my very first halberdleaf hibiscus (hibiscus laevis) blooms today, right on time for June! I look forward to this plant every year, it is just so big and beautiful. In the running for favorite flower in the garden.

Also tip for growing these: leave last year’s dried up stems up. Since they’re dry they’re way stiffer than the new stuff and are the best free stakes for keeping the new stems from flopping. Also free bee habitat!

Container planting

If you’re considering buying that spring/summer wildflower seed bag, my recommendation is you spread it out as much as you can as they can grow tightly and you will have to constantly thin them out

Fungus on Texas Marsh Mallow

I have what looks like a fungus killing my marsh mallow leaves. Any help on what it is and how to stop it is much appreciated.

Are these ok to plant in Texas?

Want to make sure I’m not spreading invasive wildflowers

Newbie Lazymaxxing Landscaping

Howdy folks, longtime DFW resident, looking to do a little work into making my backyard nicer for my kid to play in. We have a functioning irrigation system so biweekly watering is taken care of. What kind of cheap plants can I stick out back that don't require much if any maintenance? Same-ish question for our front flowerbeds.

Today’s harvest

I got two blackberries, a strawberry, four kidney beans pods, a cucumber and a tomato!

Pretty proud of the continued bits and pieces I’ve been getting. More each year!
