Basilisk worth it!
Curious what other 11th exp you guys have had with it.
Maybe not a top pick but for just 115 points I think the basilisk is worth it for what it does. The -2" to move characteristic and charges came in clutch for me twice today. It's fairly easy to get it into a position to draw a bead on enemy units for a regular BS shot but even with indirect you just need to score one hit for the effect to go off. That special ability is easily a 2cp stratagem and I would say worth it's points in a lot of instances.
I also tried a manticore. Whereas I think the ability is decent it's pretty pricey. I could see holding it back but keeping LOS on your objectives for direct fire when the time comes. Reducing enemy OC will help with Take and Hold a bit. It's a bummer though that it can't zero out OC.
How Guard feels right now
It seems pretty rough figuring out a list right now. i hope we will find our stride soon.
Finished my Kasrkin squad from my combat patrol
Started 40k a month ago, happy to have finished the whole combat patrol box so I can play my first game soon (the 10 rough riders were brutal to finish)

A kitbashed priest to go along with my Scions regiment. I felt as though the existing priest model didnt work for an elite regiment such as the scions and wanted something that felt more like a particularly pious soldier.

While at the kill team event this weekend, we came across this gem on the shelf, even one of the staff members didn't know what it was and couldn't find it on the website. I thought Gorgans were discontinued a few years ago?
Anyone else sad that they can't use valkyries anymore.
Ok yes technically you can still use them but they went from overcosted in 10th for a mediocre flying tank with carrying capacity to a mediocre flying tank that can only be put on the table with rapid ingress, is still overcosted and isn't even worth putting infantry inside

I wasn’t a fan of the Centaur when it first got announced but the design grew in me. It allowed me to try a more realistic painting technique inspired by WW2 miniature painter.
Melee units of imperial guard/Astra Militarum
Hi. Astartes have power armor, genetically engineered superhuman speed, jetpacks and armored transports to deliver them into melee range, not mentioning terminators teleportation. Sisters of battle have repentia, penitent engines and power armors as well, and they don't care about casualties of two first things. Mechanicus have cybernetic troops who can move incredibly fast, have various forms of shielding. All points here have some means to close on in, and their melee specialist work in coordination with ranged troops. does Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum has any units, equipped and trained to work as offensive troops working in coordination with ranged troopers or leading their charge ? for example some formations of ogryn auxilia, or some regiment similar to Catachan, that their planet's gravity and environment turned them into deadly predators ?

I’ve probably played about 20 games + of 11th Edition and I feel pretty demoralized with Guard. A lot of our Data sheets went up. Battle shocks are breaking our back. Having to pay either 1 cp or 125 points to ignore cover is breaking our back.
A lot of the layouts are freaking nuts and have tons of open spaces where we can’t deploy everything safely and I’m just losing big pieces turn 1 because a Knight towed into the middle objective and ignores cover and just unloads into my deployment zone.
I’ve had multiple layouts as well Turn 2 Ghaz is in my freaking home objective!?
A lot of armies can just do whatever the hell they want, fall back shoot and charge, advance shoot and charge, ignore cover, ignore this ignore that AP 3-5. I full hit reroll this I full wound reroll that, I get +1 to hit and wound and ignore modifiers. Like Jesus Christ dude I reroll 1’s to hit and can get lethals or ignore cover for a cp….
I feel like GW thinks Guards supposed to be an Elite army all of a sudden and to be fair their are some insane data sheets in guard, example: Dorn’s, Scions, Bullgryn, Krieg engs, Kasrkin, tranports.
All my tanks are 150+ and they just get picked up by 100 point units not even breaking a sweat.
Like it doesn’t feel good when a lot of the armies in the game can just be like ok take a battleshock test at -1 and now my 290 model fails on an 8. I can’t even attempt to order it. I can’t have Yarrick next to it to give reroll battle shocks and now I’m hitting on 5’s.
Shadow in the warp into Guard means mostly likely my whole army will hit on 4’s and 5’s yet my points went up??
Please tell me I’m not alone in feeling like we’ve gotten shafted. Like Duty and Honor is like legitimately mostly useless into battleshock tests.
Guard feels really rough to play Rn and I’m worried GW just likes popping on us. Like Ctan still have AP 5 wtf is that!?!?

Does a "reinforced" unit count as 1 or 2 toward unit limit?
In 11th, Incursion (1000pt), I can have 4 units of Cadian Shock Troops. Is it legal to have 2 of those units reinforced so that I can use all of my 60 models? Or am I still limited to 40 models?
Artillery units
So I’m hoping that with 11th edition and the changes to some of the rules and how they work that more of the cooler vehicle units like the Deathstrike, Wyvern and Manticore will start to see some play again but I’m curious if anyone’s actually looked at how they might run in 11th. I’m also curious cos I would genuinely like to run some more generic artillery units in DKOK besides just the Basilisk and the Artillery Team cos I just love the idea of Krieg doing what they do best (besides suicide charges) and just shelling the ever living life out of a target
Proxy Castellan, can't decide on the head
A friend gave me the Amelia Minervas model from the Wardens of Ultramar kit, I loved the model except for the head, which I'd like to be under a mask of some kind, I've been trying to kitbash something and these two solutions are the most to my liking so far, but I can't decide which one I should go with.
I'm basically looking for a different perspective, I like the breacher head because I feel like it has a sort of a roman centurion look to it, but I also like the gas mask one because it might blend more seamlessly with the rest of the troops, what do you guys think?
How am I looking?
What do you think my next few purchases should be? I’m leaning towards the recon squad what they come out, as this is supposed to be a Rynn’s Guard QRF…thinking armored infantry-designation force?
