AVTT/PTTN Austin

I truly don't know what anyone's on about - that was a phenomenal show last night! They sounded incredible and were clearly having a blast doing it - even Seth's rapping was pretty enjoyable in the flow of it all.

Plus, got a signed copy of Bob's random ass history book! A night full of delightful side quests.

Song Recommendations for Wedding?

Hi! I am getting married next year and am trying to brainstorm potential first dance/daddy daughter dance songs to use. I grew up listening to the Avett Bros with my dad since I was 5 or so and saw them in concert with him for the first time in 2010. I then got my fiancé hooked on them. So I know at least one (if not both) dances will be Avett songs.

For first dance we've considered Swept Away, Living of Love, or January Wedding (even though the wedding is in March lol). But I feel like there are definitely some other fun ones that we haven't thought of yet.

Anyway I would love to hear suggestions for either first dance songs or daddy daughter dance songs if anyone has any! Thanks in advance!

AVTT/PTTN released 6 months ago. What are your thoughts? (survey + comment)

I've been a moderator on r/TheAvettBrothers for over a decade and I've never seen anything quite like the AVTT/PTTN collaboration. I thought a private survey could be a (mostly) unbiased pulse-check on how this subreddit feels about the project, now that we've had half a year to digest and appreciate.

Just A Man (Just a request?)

After seeing the show last weekend and seeing what this band is capable of I really think they would absolutely nail “Just A Man” by Faith No More. I don’t know if Scott, Seth, or Mike will see this, but just in case… Come on guys. You’d absolutely CRUSH it live.

Never knew who the avett brothers or Mike Patton were until tonight. Great show.

I’m not a big folk fan but I love alternative rock. I loved the show for what everyone is hating on it for. I loved the metal/punk/hard rock influences. I loved the (too few) synths. Wish there were more dance/techno drums and synths. Would’ve been a top show of all time for me if they incorporated more electronic instruments. It’s still up there though. Was awesome.

Satan Pulls the String was one of my favorites. Haven’t found the name of my other favorite yet. They also played easy by the commodores which was great.

Edit: the other cover I liked that they did was Retrovetigo Mr. Bungle. Wayyyy better than the recorded version.

Edit: also liked the line about the diving bell and the butterfly in “It’s Natural”

Hershey -Avett only?

Does anyone know if this is an Avett only show? I don’t see the AVTT/PTTN mention on their site. It’s also not listed on Pattons site. It’s directly between other AVTT/PTTN dates is why I ask.

Avett Bros vs. PTTN

WTF???????? Just saw them perform tonight at Rady’s Shell in SD… we have seen the Avett Brothers perform over 30 times and we have been left speechless tonight… Like seriously are we being punk’ed?! What bet did they lose?
Seriously… there was no banter or conversation between the band like there usually is. They seemed to be miserable to be up there, and I have never ever heard any foul language be used ever before tonight… F word left and right from MP. Why??? I’m at a loss. #savetheavettbros #saylove

AVVT/PTTN tour show review from SF

My partner and I saw the AVVT/PTTN show in SF last night. We are long time AB fans, I’ve probably seen them in concert 10-15 times or so and loved it every time. Neither of us were familiar with the name Mike Patton and had zero info, just assumed he was an opening act. My partner bought ticket to this tour during the presale months ago and didn’t realize it was a collab tour.

On our way to the show we put the new collab music on in the car and listened for the first time. We ended up skipping through most of the songs, but figuring it was the kind of thing that maybe would grow on us over time.

The AVVT/PTTN show was definitely a collab partnership, not an AB show with a guest. There we’re a couple AB songs played mostly “ normally” (like Laundry Door and Murder in the City) but much of the concert was songs that were full of so much heavy drums/ distortion/ guitar you actually couldn’t hear the vocals much. The new collab songs were just very loud and heavy and repetitive. The crowd seemed mostly into it- I guess Patton is an SF native- and definitely skewed older than a normal AB show. Maybe it was a lot of old 80s/90s Faith No More fans? Sadly, it was not our vibe and even though it was a 2 hour drive there and back, we left at the encore break and felt mostly relieved.

Perhaps had we known what the show was about we would have enjoyed it more. But we thought we were going to a standard Avett Bros show and were pretty disappointed. I’m glad they as artists are having fun and stretching into new stuff but it wasn’t for us.

The Avett Brothers on the soundtrack for new film starring Matthew McConaughey: The Rivals of Amziah King

This might be old news, but just came across it posted on tAB’s socials. Excited to see this blend of musician and acting power! Story seems exciting too.
