Favorite band, favorite shirt - 10 years apart

The Dear Hunter has been my favorite band and special interest ever since I heard them for the first time in middle school.

A friend from school showed me "Whisper" and I was hooked. Went through my parent's iTunes library and discovered Act III - my dad's friend loves prog and shared the CD with him. I proceeded to buy their *whole discography* and dig in.

I got into the band right before Act IV came out and experienced the joy of hearing it for the first time, and a million times more. Like, I listened to Act IV on repeat for the entirety of the first month it came out and nothing else... Days after its release, they played at RiotFest, which was my first time seeing them live.

At one point, I shared the collection with my best friend who fell in love with the band, too. It was right around that time that TDH went on tour and I was able to see them at The House Cafe in DeKalb, Illinois with that friend. The first two pictures are from that show. Our little teenage selves pushed ourselves to the front row and experienced one of the most impactful shows of our lives. I cried. A lot. Annoying kids we were, my best friend got Casey to wear her little cat-ear bowler hat on stage. After the show we waited around to get a picture with Casey and say hello. Out front, as we were waiting for our ride, the band was packing up their gear. I made an awkward comment to Rob about how he didn't sweat at all during the show. Nick C. lit a cigarette and told us "Never start smoking." Looking back I cringe, but I just appreciate how incredibly nice and friendly the band is, tolerating us like that.

Over the years I have listened to the music, anticipated and celebrated releases, and went to as many shows as I could. I cry at every show, it's just an inevitability.

Last Friday, I saw them at House of Blues in Chicago. I had no idea it was the last show of the tour until the openers mentioned it. It felt like such an honor and a privilege to be at this closing show. 10 years after seeing them for the first (real) time. The last two pictures are from that show.

TDH has truly been so impactful on my life in a way I can't even begin to put into words. My baseball shirt has been my favorite shirt since I got it with my copy of Act IV. It makes me so happy looking back on that picture of myself at 14 wearing it, not knowing how much the band would stay as a throughline of my life - that I'd still be wearing it at the House of Blues 10 years later. It's crazy to see how much we've all grown and changed.

P.S.: shootout to the band for always picking the best openers. If I was able to get my hands on their CDs at a show, they've been on regular rotation in my car ever since. CiM is in the CD player right now. (K. Sera was sold out before I could buy theirs, rip.)

Bleached myself some merch!

I’ve never found any dear hunter merch that really calls to me even though they’re my favorite band (especially now that they’ve moved away from the Acts which are my favorite albums) - so I made my own!

Any updates on The Indigo Child books?

Back in March or April, Casey said in an Instagram livestream that they are writing 3 books for The Indigo Child and were planning on releasing the first one around August.

Is that still the plan or is it planned to release later?

Porcupine Tree - Open Car (Drum Cover)

Recorded this today after my brother suggested I should try and play some Porcupine Tree. This is definitely one of the easiest ones by Gavin Harrison.

Always happy to answer any questions about kit, setup, recording etc. Cheers!

Concert news spoiler?

Not sure if i've missed it elsewhere, but in Grand Rapids - did I hear these correctly?

  1. Planning to tour fewer cities in the future?

  2. New album next year?

Curious if there is any extra word/details on these?

TDH Lot Tune finished

I finished arranging this, figured I'd post it now. All credit goes to Casey and the band for such an amazing piece of music. Still hoping they see this. 👀

I hope I can get a recording of my kids playing it, but we are DEEP into learning our show so it may have to wait a year depending on how fast they can learn it. Might flesh it out a bit to give something for my rack and synth players to do, but I'm happy with it the way it is as well.

Grand Rapids Show

Last night's show was amazing, I transcended for a bit during Sunya. This album is perfect for a live show. Shoutout to K Sera and Closure in Moscow, they both killed it.

Asbury Park- thank you and I'm sorry

Thank you for literally, one of the best nights ever. I have seen them 3 times now, always amazing. I am still riding the high, and the songs have been stuck in my head on repeat. I was IN it, which leads me to my apology.

I'm sorry if I may have disrupted anyone else's time. I'm sorry if my awful singing is in anyone's recordings and ruined anyone's memories.

My concert etiquette may be old school and cringe (38) but I like to be in there, singing my heart out, dancing, or moshing in the thick of it. No one moves anymore, so I end up bumping people at some point. The husband usually keeps me from doing it too much, guiding me away subtley haha.

Anyways, thanks again for a great time. Always a pleasure. ❤️

PS- for real though- make a Mario Kart track.

I forced 3 friends to go with me to the Allentown show.

They had only listened to a couple of their songs before the concert, and their music tastes are all over the place. I was a little nervous they wouldn't enjoy the show (because it was an hour drive there for a Monday night show).

As we were leaving, one of my friends just looked at me with their jaw dropped and could only say "holy fucking shit," to which the other two agreed. Praises about Casey's voice, crazy bass lines, ethereal guitars on the Sunya tracks, and "pretty guitars" (and were blown away when I told them they're the band's own models).
