How will the MP02 compete without an E-ink screen?

It doesn't seem that the MP02 will have an Eink screen. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems it will be an OLED or something similar. But with the Clicks Communicator, Titan 2 Elite, and the Ikko Mind One, there are already so many keyboard phones on the market. Clicks seems to have quite a few backers and a bigger team behind their device, and the Titan 2 Elite is a pocket-able, full-keyboard phone with a better track record on shipping and fulfillment. The Ikko lets you choose between a keyboard or not.

How do you think the Minimal Phone will compete without an Eink screen?

Banana for scale

Also, I know we've been wondering about whether or not the MP02 is e-ink. What if the minimal logo button on the front is the e-ink refresh button?

Selling MP01 Onyx, 6GB Ram, 128GB.

Selling due to no longer getting use. Realistically only used it for about 3 weeks so it is in amazing condition. Comes with Onyx coloured case. Located in Australia, happy to post worldwide if we go through a safe on both end service.

What MP01 taught me

MP01 taught me that hardware doesn’t care how bad you want it to work.

Here’s the honest list of what we learned going from MP01 to MP02:

  1. Underpromise. Overdeliver. Don’t announce what you hope will happen. Announce what’s already real.
  2. Finish the details before you say a word. The buttons, the tolerances, the software, the packaging. All of it matters.
  3. Lock in manufacturing before going public. Tooling, suppliers, QC, logistics, backup plans. Hype doesn’t fix supply chain issues.
  4. Build timelines around reality, not best-case scenarios. Manufacturing takes long. Customs takes longer. Certifications take longer. Something always comes up.
  5. Leave room for things to break, because they will.
  6. Protect trust at all costs. Missing a deadline sucks. Losing trust is much worse.
  7. Listen to customers, but don’t chase every single request. Look for patterns. Fix the real problems.
  8. Obsess over the experience, not just the spec sheet. People remember how something feels.
  9. Stay quiet until you’re actually ready. It’s better to surprise people than explain delays.
  10. Communicate more. Even when the update isn’t perfect, silence is worse.

We built the first Minimal Phone in 8 months.

We built the first Minimal Phone in 8 months.

It was rushed. It was imperfect. But it proved people want a different kind of phone.

We’ve been working on MP02 for a year and kept it quiet because we wanted to show the product only when it was real.

No promises. No concepts. No noise.

MP02 is coming.

Shipping time?

For those of you who ordered the Minimal Phone direct from the website, how long did it take to arrive?

I ordered last week and it hasnt shipped. I'm reading now that several people said it took 2 months for theirs to arrive.

I think Minimal is teasing MP2 right in front of us...

Am I completely wearing a tinfoil hat, or is Minimal intentionally dropping hints about the next phone?

For some context, I bought the original Minimal Phone a while back and ended up deleting my old Reddit account because I was trying to spend less time online (ironically). So this is a fresh account.

Anyways... I've been looking at their latest teaser posts and I can't unsee a few things.

1. The hoodie.

The keyboard printed on the back isn't the same layout as the current Minimal Phone.

I pulled mine out to compare, and they're different. Different bottom row, different key placement... enough that it doesn't look like they just stylized it for merch.

Why make a completely new keyboard layout for a sweatshirt?

Unless... it's not a random design.

2. The top profile.

The current phone doesn't have a kill switch.

Knowing Minimal's whole philosophy around intentional technology and giving users more control, a dedicated hardware switch for privacy, focus, or connectivity would make perfect sense.

It immediately caught my eye.

3. This one is the biggest clue.

The current Minimal Phone almost looks like it's resting on top of another phone.

Look closely at the bottom.

You can see what appears to be another device underneath with the minimal logo on it, but it's mostly hidden.

Why stack it like that unless you wanted people to notice something without fully revealing it?

Individually, maybe none of these mean anything.

But all three together?

  • A keyboard layout that doesn't match the current phone.
  • A mysterious hardware switch on the top profile.
  • What looks like a second device hiding underneath the current one.

It feels like they're planting breadcrumbs.

Maybe MP2 has been hiding in plain sight this whole time.

Am I completely overanalyzing this, or does anyone else see what I'm seeing?

Disable physical keyboard?

I have recently been having an issue with my keyboard in which I input a key, but it types out another (like pressing backspace, but it puts "D" or keys like the N key not working at all). It has gotten to a point where my phone recently became unusable, where it just spams the D key so I can't open any apps or message anyone.

I reached out to customer support and haven't gotten a response in over a week, so I was wondering if anyone was able to disable the physical keyboard to use an on-screen keyboard only.
