Another Upgrade: The MP2 Keyboard Is Now Touch-Capacitive

We said we were going to keep pushing Minimal Phone 2 as far as we could before it reaches your hands.

Well… we have another update.

Minimal Phone 2 is getting a touch-capacitive keyboard.

The physical QWERTY keyboard can now detect touch, opening up an entirely new way to interact with the phone without constantly reaching for the display.

Has anyone used the Minimal Phone, in India?

Hi fellow tech enthusiasts,

I'm really keen to learn more about the Minimal Phone. Maybe buy the Minimal Phone 2, when available.

Has anyone in India used it.

What are the pros and cons? what features do you miss when using it?

Worth spending the money? did you use it as a primary phone or a secondary phone?

would appreciate all the thoughts on this.

Same size. Bigger battery.

We went back and forth with our mechanical engineers until we found a way.

3,000 mAh → 3,600 mAh using an Advanced Silicon-Anode Lithium-Ion Battery.

Same footprint. Same compact phone.

600 mAh more battery without making Minimal Phone 2 any bigger.

Every backer gets the upgrade.

This won’t be the last surprise before Minimal Phone 2 ships. 🥳

Out of all 3 QWERTYs, this looks the best!

Hey all! I'm a veteran BlackBerry blogger (hope you guys remember BBin) and been using/working around BlackBerry in it's glory. Post Key2, i switched to xperia to razer 2 to samsung fold, now back on qwerty Unihertz Titan 2, I'm so glad the industry is changing its trend again. Love having physical buttons for extreme multitasking with apps like keymapper and tasker.

I, for now, funded titan 2 and elite. May skip the communicator (unless CB team pings me for review) as unihertz have won my heart over its dedication and software maturity. But, have to admit that this MP02 looks the best of all the 3 phones announced in '26. The design, the materials and headphone jack (yes! I'm an audiophile) tempts me so much to go for it.

My elite will arrive in hands soon! Not sure if it would replace my T2 yet. I look forward to MP02 if it excels in sftware; which as of now looks pretty sick!

Goodluck to the team involved! 👍

Minimal Phone 2 vs Clicks Communicator

Seriously jumping between these two devices. I like the looks of the MP2 more but enjoy the Niagara launcher more that comes with the CC. Im not the biggest fan of the OS from MP2.

Is anyone else considering getting the MP2 and installing a different launcher?

SIM card/ Verizon carrier for MP02

Just pledged for the MP02. It looks fantastic and seems like it has potential to be a solid primary device rather than a secondary phone.

I don’t have experience with the MP01, but I saw there were some issues regarding calls, connection and specific cellular carriers. I currently use Verizon on an iPhone 13 mini and I’m hoping the issues I’ve been reading about for the MP01 will be fixed in the MP02. Is the MP02 looking to be officially Verizon-certified, or will it be supported through the same type of physical-SIM workaround that some MP01 users have used?

I’m wondering whether the MP02 will have Verizon recognize/whitelist the MP02’s IMEI for the SIM to work, or whether an already-active Verizon SIM can simply be moved into the MP02 like MP01 users have reported doing.

I like the phone by itself and I’d also like to keep my current number and have reliable connection.

Just backed on KS for MP02, didn't notice it was missing n25

I just backed the 8GB+512GB model on Kickstarter, but I noticed the MP02 seems to be missing band n25. This band, I feel, is crucial for a large swath of T-Mobile coverage. I see the Communicator has all of these bands and more and was curious as to why the MP02 was lacking them.

Does anyone know if they have acknowledged the lack of bands on their connectivity or if they will address this before launch?

Fullfillment Concerns

With the Minimal Phone 02 on Kickstarter available for backing is their any of you with concerns of backing it considering Minimal's reputation after the release of the Minimal Phone 01? Minimal thenselves states that roughly 200 phones weren't delivered while community speculation is closer to one in ten or roughly 500 undelivered products.

Depth to mpO2 OS?

The quick commands hub looks great. But does viewing the tasks, or calendar events, or reminders just open corresponding android apps (Google Calendar, Google tasks, reminders?) if so… yuck.

Poised for Leverage

So there are multiple viable options for a physical keyboard device coming out by the end of the year. Most notably the Unihertz Titan 2 Elite, the Clicks Communicator and the Minimal Phone 02. All have their strengths and weaknessess. Unfortunately none check every box for the most part so most are basing purchasing decisions on which check the most or, for somen whuch get released the soonest.

Sadly, all three companies have had issues that shouldn't be ignored. Clicks's recebtly released Power Keyboard has expierenced marked return rates, quality control issues and issues surrounding fullfillment with people who ordered in January still awaiting delivery. Minimal released their first phone to less than stellar fanfare. Individuals generally consider the phone a bust. Some people who back the project on Kickstarter never received their rewards as backers. Unihertz has gotten bad press for promising Androidupdates and security patches that never came and have botched the release of the T2E having missed deadlines and have been less that forthright along the way.

Therefore, I feel as though the market for PKB phones, while small, is poised for someone to come and take it. All three of the aforementiined companies are miniscle in comparison to the Apples and Samsungs but they are working within a niche subsect. If they could fill the current void with the PKB market in providing clear and concise communication, doing what they say they will, providing support, I feel that could/would go a long way to capturing that market. At the very least it would go a long way to help build their brand.

I feel it's too late for Unihertz to do so. As the most established of the group they have had the most opportunities and yet to do so. Minimal would need a drastic rebound which isn't impossible but unlikely. Personally, I think Clicks is most capable of coming through in this regard and in part I think that's why they are taking SO long to release the Communicator. I'm hoping it is due to them ensuring the product is refined. Thoughts?

The industry killed the notification light.

They built an entire ecosystem around making you check your screen 100 times a day.

So we brought it back.

How will the minimal phone 2 help end phone addiction?

Just found out about the minimal phone with the launch of the kickstarter. I was immediately interested in it because of my doom scrolling and high daily screen time so I placed an order on the kickstarter to get in on one of the earlier price tiers

At first I thought the appeal of the phone was that it helps limit phone usage through a combination of hardware and software implementations but I’m having a hard time finding information on how actually using the phone works.

I see that the last gen had an e-ink screen and I definitely see how that would help end the dopamine loop but the new gen has a really nice oled display and I’m having a hard time understanding how it will help limit screen time if it’s essentially an android phone with full functionality.

What differentiates it from just installing some screen time limiting apps on my iPhone 17 pro?

Thanks in advanced for any info! Hoping to keep my order

First wave of shipment for the kickstarter?

The rewards for kickstarting how do shipments go out? Never preorder MP01 but this MP02 seems up my alley with 512GB. Did other tiers ship quicker?

Minimal mp-02 vs Clicks Communicator

I was just curious to see people's reasons for preordering one or the other of these two. Or possibly both like I did 😅 I love the design and specs of both of these in their own way. I was mostly indecisive and didn't want to miss out on the lower prices during preorder lol

What is everyone's thoughts and concerns between these two??
