hi i am a freshman in u** arki. It was my dream to be a Thomasian architect. But just with 2 weeks experience here, I realized I don’t like this life. I cant do this for more years. Esp someone who doesn’t have creativity, bad at math, and doesn’t know how to draw. I don’t like this lifestyle. My mental health and day to day living is affected. I am planning to drop and just transfer to other schools and program. Im thinking of UE since they still accept late enrollees. The problem is i don’t know what i like. Im thinking of taking business ad. Is it okay to take business ad in University of the East and will my future be okay?

Hello! I would just like to ask if UST has Intrams like it was during high school. You know, the pageant where each grade level of the school has a representative, sports you can join, etc.

My attention is mostly on the pageant thing, does UST have events like that? And if so, are students forced to, let’s say, represent their department? Or it’s voluntary and doesn’t force students to join.

helloooo, our prof said we can't borrow microscopes from the laboratory or go to the lab with her supervision, so im wondering lang po if there are places where students can practice using the microscope? huhu since we'll only have 30 minutes to practice next meeting before our practical test and I'm not that good yet thank you!

what do i do if i skipped purchasing the bundled books that ust prescribed because i heard that the books dont get used that much at all but then i also heard that we need an aleks code (?) for online assessments that can only be acquired thru the books bought from ust? its too late for me to get the bundled books now. what should i do?

hello !! currently a freshie and tbh, i'm really grateful of how COS has been insanely welcoming and comfy. i'm really grateful of the chance given to me and the environment really gives "family vibes" especially to our super loving seniors 🫶

however, it's been a few weeks since classes started and i can say i reallyyy enjoy (?) my current program (tbh mainly because our seniors told us our profs are goated 😆). but there's this part of me that keeps on making my "excitement" fade or like become dull kasi i never expected ust to be THIS expensive..

being from a middle-class family while being raised by a single parent is really both a blessing and a curse. i'm grateful for every family member helping me up to this day but i can't help but think, "what if i just stayed in the province and pursued another program i know i'll be more comfy?" cause i won't need to go through multiple anxiety attacks every night because of my current situation..

i love ust and it's warm environment, but knowing that being able to pay the tuition isn't enough. knowing that being able to be r3c0n-ed and to purchase materials like books and uniforms isn't enough. if i didn't apply for a scholarship before (lol shout out to ched my books are so mahal 💔), i would do everything to withdraw my enrollment cause i know myself that living in manila + with fees and materials THAT high, i won't be able to sustain it for the next 3 years..

especially to COS seniors, do you have any advice to someone who's planning to leave ust after 1 semester? any advice would be appreciated 🙏

As I’m writing this, ang dami pa ring Thomasians na stranded sa UST. Some are even preparing to stay overnight kasi wala na silang way makauwi. Imagine being stuck inside your university, worrying about food, where you’re gonna sleep, paano ka uuwi, etc. tapos paglabas mo naman, baha rin halos everywhere.

And honestly, ang frustrating lang kasi bakit ang late ng suspension?

It had already been raining since earlier in the morning. By the time the suspension was announced around noon, ang dami nang students na nasa campus. Marami nang bumiyahe papunta, marami nang nasa classes, and by then the flooding was already becoming a serious problem.

Like hello??? Students are NOT waterproof 😭

I know naging running joke na yung “college students are waterproof” dito, pero the more I think about it, the more I realize na parang coping mechanism na rin siya. We joke about students having to brave floods, typhoons, transportation problems, etc. kasi ano pa bang magagawa natin kundi tawanan na lang minsan?

Same with this whole idea of “Filipino resilience.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of how Filipinos help each other during disasters. Seeing students helping one another, sharing food, giving people places to stay, etc. is genuinely heartwarming.

Pero hanggang kailan natin gagawing requirement ang pagiging “resilient”?

Kasi honestly, minsan yung “resilience” feels like a convenient word we use to cope with things that shouldn’t have to be this difficult in the first place.

Hindi dapat kailangan maging “resilient” ng student kasi hindi maayos ang disaster preparedness.

Hindi dapat kailangan maging “resilient” kasi late ang response.

Hindi dapat kailangan maging “resilient” kasi hindi maayos ang flood control or transportation systems.

Hindi dapat normal na may mga estudyanteng stranded overnight sa university dahil hindi sila makauwi.

We shouldn’t have to constantly adapt to systems that fail us.

And this is why I genuinely hope everyone thinks carefully about who they vote for in the next elections.

PLEASE vote wisely. 😭

We need leaders who actually understand the struggles of ordinary Filipinos (lalo na students) and who are actually willing to DO something about them.

We need leaders who will work on disaster preparedness, flood control, transportation, emergency response, and all these things BEFORE people are already stranded and suffering.

Kasi guys, we deserve better than this.

We deserve a government where being safe isn’t something we have to earn by being “resilient.”

We deserve leaders who actually do their jobs.

To that prf, I hope you consider the growing situation around the campus before you proceed sa pagka-klase. Suspended na ng 12 noon but nagpapasok ka pa rin kahit 11 am ang start ng klase. Ok that is valid pero yung pag-extend mo hanggang 1 am? Wth is wrong with you. Isa ka sa dahilan kung bakit madaming tomasino ang stranded around the campus, submerged in the flood, hungry and cannot go home tonight. And sa mga admin diyan, sana naman kumilos kayo at mag-announce ng maaga. Expected naman na bad weather today and yet you still proceed with ftf classes for college as if you do not have the power to suspend it. We know the LGU is late af in suspending classes so sana naman nauna na kayo. Do better for thomasian. We pay a huge amount of money to study here, not to be inconvenienced and compromised our safety!!!

Even without the Manila office announcement, The University should have announced that class are supposed for college students beforehand. Nakakairita kasi Orange rainfall was expected by the forecasters last night.However, Tayong college students are not included sa suspension, as we if aren’t exception. It already happened last Friday pero this time mataas at delikado ang baha.

If you didn’t know, Administration has the power to announce suspension even without the manila office’s approval. Iknow it’s hard for the administrators to have multiple suspension in a row, but students’ safety should be the priority. Some students even have to travel miles to attend classes. They should also consider the illness we can get this weather.

UST improves on your weather safety protocols especially when students lives are in danger.

Hi, I just graduated last June and I am currently still in Manila due to the review for the licensing exams. And I was caught up by the rapid flood last monday on my way home and had no choice but to wade through the ankle deep waters.

I wonder if the UST also provides or gives free doxycycline for Thomasian Alumni who were caught in last monday’s flooding.
