“This is your brain” graffiti. What does it mean?

“This is your brain” graffiti. What does it mean?

I’ve seen a few of these pop up around town, and I’m not a smart man so I need someone to explain for me. Is this a philosophical statement about how even though I might think I’m seeing a bit of paper, that all I will ever perceive in life is happening inside my brain? Is it a bit of Dadaist art? I’m losing minutes of my life pondering it and I need outside assistance.

Car crashed into child care centre's fence.

This is from a cropped video from my dashcam when I drove past 6:30-ish in the morning.

This is the child care centre at the corner of Ramsay and Alderly.

Service Suzuki plus loan car

So I've cracked the shits big time with Blacks/Armstrong/whatever they're called now, on Neil street. I've been going there for 5 years, with 2 personal vehicles and 6 work vehicles.

These days no one answers the phone. Takes ages on hold before you get a receptionist, who is very lovely and takes your details and assures you that someone from the service department will ring you back later that day... It's been 3 days, I've called once per day, told the same thing by reception, no one has called me back. Hopeless. My experience is that the customer service has really gone down hill since it changed hands.

All that being said, I'm looking for somewhere to service my Suzuki Swift and I'd prefer somewhere where I can borrow another car for the day. Any ideas?

Unless I’m going crazy, I just saw a dingo in rangeville

Was heading down long from picnic point (didn’t pay too much attention because it’s not uncommon to see a dog)

Then I stopped and thought I was seeing things.

Drove beside it along Webb st and it headed down ocean street towards Mackenzie

Toowoomba bus station overnight parking reviews

Hello everyone!

I’m travelling from Toowoomba to Brisbane at 11am by bus and returning the next morning around 9:15am.

I live in Glenvale, so I’m deciding whether to drive to the Toowoomba Bus Station, leave my car in the bus station car park overnight, and drive straight to the uni when I get back. I need to be at uni by 10am, so having my car there would make things much easier.

Has anyone here left their car at the bus station car park overnight? Is it generally safe, particularly for the car?

I’m also considering just taking an Uber/taxi from Glenvale both ways instead, so I’d appreciate any advice on which option you’d choose.

Thanks!

Not moving over for Emergency Vehicles

Okay, this seems to be a bit of an ongoing thing. I was coming up the New England highway just passed blue Mountain Heights.

You could hear an ambulance coming looking in the revision mirror and your side mirror. You could see it flying up the range lights flashing sirens on.

Dip shit in the right hand lane refused to move over to the left hand lane plenty of room. The ambulance has gone flying up. This guy’s bum beeping his horn flat sirens flashing. He refuses to move. Eventually the ambulance goes to move to the left to overtake.

This apparently panics the driver of the white Camry who pulls to the right into the cement barrier

The ambulance just kept going good for him. The guy’s car wasn’t too badly damaged. I don’t think but clearly some injuries to his car.

How is it people in this day and age cannot hear and see emergency vehicles and how can they not know to move out of the bloody way?

Oh, that’s right. It was an Uber driver and he had headphones on.

Thinking of moving to Toowoomba next year — how is the healthcare/pharmacy scene for newcomers?

Hii everyone,

I'm putting together plans to move to Toowoomba in about a year's time on a skilled pathway (Pharmacy Technician background).

I chose Toowoomba because I prefer regional living over the big chaos of Sydney/Melbourne, but before locking everything down, I wanted to get an honest local opinion:

What is the general job market like around town for healthcare support / dispensary staff?

How easy is it for someone moving from overseas to find decent rental accommodation and settle into the community?

What are the best things about living in Toowoomba that newcomers usually don't realize?

Would love to hear what locals think of the town and any tips on what I should research over the next 12 months. Cheers!

Long shot – looking for safe rural accommodation / acreage in SE QLD

Posting anonymously for safety reasons.
This is probably a long shot, but after three months of getting nowhere, I’ll try anything.

I’m urgently looking for somewhere safe for myself, my dog and three horses after leaving a domestic violence situation. I’m currently living in my vehicle and travelling back and forth to care for my horses.
I had to resign from my job in order to safely leave and have since spent most of my time and remaining money navigating government agencies and support services, with promised assistance still not eventuating.
I’m not looking for charity. I need a safe base so I can return to work, deal with my legal matters and provide somewhere safe for my child to come to.
I have my own horse float with living area and kitchen, so even somewhere safe to park it on acreage could work, provided I have access to electricity and water, along with somewhere suitable for my three horses.
I’m experienced with horses and rural properties and can do fencing, farm/property maintenance, mowing, gardening, painting, cleaning, animal care and general repairs. I have fencing supplies and can establish or repair fencing myself.
Happy to discuss rent, caretaking, work-for-rent or a combination.
I’ve unfortunately trusted offers of help before that turned out to have a hidden agenda, so I’m only looking for a genuine arrangement with clear boundaries.
I’m open to SE Queensland or further for the right situation.
Please DM me if you have something suitable or know someone genuine who might.
I don’t need rescuing. I need somewhere safe to get back on my feet and rebuild.

Toowoomba Electric Car Owners?

Hi. I'm new to Toowoomba, and considering buying an electric car. I travel to Brisbane and back relatively frequently, and I'm interested in hearing from owners on how they go with theirs, and similar trips. And of course how they find charging around the place.

A typical EV seems to have a range of about 400km but this will go down with highway driving. I don't like cutting things too fine with range, but I'd also like to save on fuel.

Can Op Shops of Toowoomba pull their heads in

What in the power tripping fuck is going on with some of these op shops. I am not talking about all of the (thank you Widows, RSPCA and Tonys), but if you've been the Red Cross and Lifeline, it's as if they want to eventually toss stuff into the skip bins because they can't move on Anko clothes for $15 a piece.

If your grandma is one of the kind of volunteers that pockets all of the good stuff before bringing to the store, can you reality check her please.

Local vintage/antique dealers?

We have a couple pieces of vintage, Australian made furniture pieces we need to re-home.

Normally we’d throw things up on Marketplace but this time we’re wondering who the more reputable and friendly antique dealers around would be, who are happy to appraise/buy if I take our wares directly to them? Has anyone got firsthand experience? I don’t think it’s the sort of stuff that you’d see in or take to a pawnbroker, but I’m also completely unversed in this sort of thing.

Thanks, all!

Camping: Looking for a place to trek to

Me mate and I are from FNQ and have missed being able to drive or walk somewhere untouched to stay the night.

Our plan is to find a place where we can walk off into the bush with our swags, light a (camp)fire, set up for the night where we can see the stars and trek back in the morning, with all the respects paid to the Old People and wildlife down this way.

(I say walk with the idea of at least a few km, not forty feet)

Would anyone know a place like this or something like it?

Why I hardly ever see pedestrians there?

Why is it that I never seem to see any pedestrians in Toowoomba? I’ve been there several times, and every time I hardly see anyone walking around. When I go into a park, suddenly there are some people, but as soon as I leave the park, they seem to disappear again.

Even when I look at the CBD on Street View, I barely see any people. When I drive through the streets, it feels almost like a ghost town. There’s something slightly unsettling about it — I wouldn’t even feel particularly comfortable walking around there alone in broad daylight.

There’s this strange chill in the air, and it’s so quiet that it almost feels eerie. There’s hardly anyone around, yet you somehow get the feeling that someone is watching you.

Ipswich actually gives me a somewhat similar feeling.

Is this purely because the population is relatively small and the city is very low-density, so there simply aren’t many people walking around?

Looking for tradie for renovations

I just settled on an old Queenslander, and I'm after a qualified tradie to do some renovations, such as enclosing part of the verandah and extending a room into that space.

Can anyone recommend anyone who does good work at a reasonable price? I'm also happy to be warned about tradies who have done you wrong.
