Fair Use Policy updated - Cached transfers now count to your total usage!

TorBox has updated the Fair Use Policy to count cached transfers due to all the shtheads who are oversharing accounts/selling API keys and slowing down the servers.

May 6: "Which transfers count?

Any transfer that is not served from TorBox's cache counts towards your usage threshold. Cached transfers do not count towards this limit."

May 20: "Which transfers count?

Incoming Transfers:

  • Any uncached transfer from the Internet to TorBox.

Outgoing Transfers:

  • Any transfer from TorBox to your device.
  • Any transfer from TorBox to the Internet. (seeding, hoster uploads, etc)."

"Any transfer" means streaming is counted too. But only the amount you actually watched. So if you open a 90GB file and immediately close it, you may only have streamed 50 megabytes. If you quit watching a movie halfway, it would only count half of the size, etc. So it's safe to open large files to check them. It will only count the amount of data you actually streamed.

To monitor your usage, they have added a new graph to your user account menu which shows the last 30 day bandwidth usage. You can check your usage there.

People who download uncached torrents can disable seeding via "Settings: Website: Default Seed Torrents: Never", if you aren't on a private tracker and don't care about ratio.

The fair use limits are different per tier. These are their lowest limits (floor) of enforcements, so if you are below these you are not affected:

  • Essential - 10TB/month (10000 GB)
  • Standard - 20TB/month (20000 GB)
  • Pro - 30TB/month (30000 GB)

Are you a normal person? Then you won't notice anything. Even if you insist on watching 90 GB videos, you would have to watch 111 movies (8 hours per day every day) on the Essential plan. And if you watch 20 GB files, it is around 500 movies. And if you watch "Netflix 4K" it is around 1250 movies. That's a real example of how big 10 terabytes is.

Hopefully they continue to adjust fair use limits to get rid of the major abuse that is slowing down the servers for everyone else.

And for anyone saying they're leaving over this: Where will you move? Back to Real-Debrid which bans you if you connect from two different IPs and where 80% of the content is deleted? Or to All-Debrid which is also in France and subject to the same laws as RD? Or to the $10 Premiumize which lets you download 30 gigabytes per day (they give you 30 points per day which is the currency for bandwidth)?

---

Serious Update: A growing number of users are claiming that they don't count actual bandwidth usage, and instead immediately count the full size of the torrent as soon as you start streaming any file. Which quickly racks up usage if you just check a single episode of a multi-episode torrent or peek into a large file. Others are claiming that it doesn't count the entire season size for them. We need to test this more and need to DEMAND actual usage counting. 🙈 Discuss testing about that here. When testing, keep in mind that bandwidth usage does NOT update in realtime! It might be every 30 minutes, every hour, or longer! We just know that it's delayed.

Web UI to searched cached torrents on TB?

Is there like a search engine or web ui where I can just search for stuff that exists in TB cache and just download from it?

I am registered on private p2p communities and you have to hit a certain upload limit before you can download a magnet link. And almost every time the magnet link I worked hard to "claim" has already been cached on Torbox and is available for instant download.

So, rather than having to go through the whole drama, is there anyway, without addons I can just search for a particular thing if it exists cached or not on TB?

TorBox + newznab + indexer (selfhosted AIOStreams)

Those of you that have a selfhosted aiostreams with newznab and your own indexer (especially NinjaCentral)

Is downloading from the indexer directly to torbox allowed? isnt that against the terms on most indexers, since you technically share their nzbs on other platforms.

Anyone who have tried? anyone who knows for certain that this is allowed from the indexers perspective?

Edit: did som digging in the aiostreams newznab code, as long as you have the proxy enabled in the newznab addon settings, you are good to go.

Indexer records the query & the grab, the grab is done via the proxy (if you have it enabled). They don’t record anything after that. So that means everything is done from your ip/server that the indexer can see.

Got a free trial for Pro for 1 day but

when I added a torrent the ETA it's showing is 3 months.

After recent RD purge I lost lot of access to Indian content and many users encouraged me to look here but does my trail plan have any limitations or is this how it's supposed to be?

30 Day Bandwidth

Hello, does the 30 Day Bandwidth count towards my 10 TB Essential limit? Also what’s the match behind this? I opened the account yesterday and I’m at 59 GB. Seems a little high as I barely used it. Thanks in advance

AIOStreams Wrapped Torbox Usenet Search

I fully understand that the original torbox app has been shutdown https://www.reddit.com/r/TorBoxApp/comments/1tj1fku/torbox_v844_update/ I am having problems working out how to replicate some of the functionality for usenet:

I use to be able to do this:

  • In Torbox Website have nzbhydra2 added as search engine
  • In Stremio results where returned in Official Torbox Addon
  • Uncached usenet results where returned from nzbhyda2 instance search
  • Press Cache and Play and it downloads via torbox and plays

I also use self hosted AIOStreams and i understand how to wrap the public instances inside it, but when i do this with the instance from https://aiostreamsfortheweebs.midnightignite.me and install Torbox Search I can return usenet results Cached and Uncached but none of the results come from my own indexers that are configured on the torbox website.

Am i missing something obvious is there a way to still do this?

Indexer solutions to search api down

I had the search API as my indexer for self hosted *arr apps. Does anyone have a simple solution to fix the missing search API? Torbox was previously my only trusted source. Do I need to just move to another provider entirely?

Am I just old school? I don't want to give my api key to these unknown elfhosted sites I know nothing about. I don't want to connect stremio and my self hosted stuff to some random sites. Previously it was just me talking to torbox. I don't want all these other actors involved.

Workaround for Self Hosted AIOStreams Users with TB Pro + Usenet

As most of you know, self-hosted AIOStreams users can no longer use the built in "TorBox Search" add on. That basically means losing Usenet access for TB Pro accounts. I was told the "meteor" add-on still works for Usenet, but I could not get any results from it. It does not work for me.

Right now, the only way to keep using "TorBox Search" add-on is through public AIOStreams instances like elfhosted, midnightignite, or fortheweak. I did not want to fully move away from my self-hosted setup for AIOStreams, so this is the workaround I have.

I created AIOStreams accounts on all 3 public instances and did exact same steps on each of them:

  • Enabled the built in "TorBox Search" add on and set it to debrid + usenet (screenshot)
  • Removed all filters in "sorting" screen, so that nothing gets filtered out. Remove all default filters and empty it. (screenshot)
  • Copied the "Direct Manifest URL" from the Save & Install page (screenshot)

Moved over to my self-hosted AIOStreams instance and did the following steps;

  • On my self-hosted AIOStreams, added the manifest URL that I copied earlier as "AIOStreams" add-on in the built-in marketplace. Just paste manifest URL and rename the add-on. See in this screenshot + screenshot2
  • Added all 3 manifest URLs from each public instances as backup in case one goes down, the other keeps working. I renamed them properly. See in this screenshot
  • Sorted my add-ons on my AIOStreams to get proper results screenshot + screenshot2
  • Additionally, to avoid duplicate results from all 3 AIOStreams, I enabled "Deduplicator". See screenshot
  • Finally, here you can see I get torbox search results while using my self-hosted AIOStrems - both debrid and usenet - screenshot (note: I legally own a copy of the movie in the screenshot)

By doing above steps, I still get "TorBox Search" results including Usenet ones, while keeping my main setup self-hosted. I have "torrentio" additionally, and I also have self-hosted AIOLists instance.

Pro users should have access to the search API

Without the TorBox official addon we lost access to the TorBox internal Usenet indexer. Now we have to pay for a third party indexer to be used with a Usenet addon. That means we have to spend more money if we want to use the Usenet feature of the Pro plan.

So now the Pro plan is honestly worthless without the add-on

The search API should be enabled for Pro users and not only for developers by IP address. That way we get our money's worth for the Pro plan. How many Pro users do you have anyway? I'm pretty sure we're not that many.

Otherwise I would have to subscribe to NZBGeek or just downgrade to the Essential plan.

TorBox V8.4.4 Update

Hey r/TorBoxApp!

It's been a bit since the last update. This update is a bit more on the minor side, with some good news and some sad news.

The Sad News

  • The official TorBox (Stremio) addon has disabled & is now inaccessible.

  • The official TorBox Tinfoil Service has been disabled & is now inaccessible.

  • The Search API is now only accessible to Whitelisted IPs. (For Public Instance hosters & developers, please contact us via a ticket if you want to apply for a whitelist)

We know this may not be what you wanted to hear but this is done so the resources can be allocated towards better things, and we recommend checking out community alternatives for these things. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused due to this.

Important Info

  • This does NOT mean that TorBox will stop working in Stremio, only the official addon is being removed. Community alternatives will continue to work as normal (and we encourage you to use them instead of the Official Addon). Please check the Reply to this post for some recommendations which are Community-Sourced and some frequently answered questions. Keep in mind, TorBox does not provide support on third party addons

With that being said,

The Good News

Website improvements:

  • Uploads to cloud providers now has it’s own modal, allowing you to easily view your completed uploads. To view this click the “Upload Jobs” button.

  • Better handling of Video Player & Up Next.

  • Allows submitting vouchers through URL. Helps when sharing.

  • Dashboard should be more responsive when uploading, deleting, stop seeding or adding new downloads.

WebDL (Web Downloads) System:

  • More reliable YouTube Downloads

  • Makes a few hosters downloads More reliable

API:

  • Improvements to /webdl/hosters with support for regex (check full update for more info)

  • A few more improvements.

We know this may not look like much but most work is going towards improving reliability so the service continues staying reliable and enjoyable to all, thanks for understanding!

Check out torbox.cooking for the full changelog!

Stremio + AIOstreams

Does anyone have a good set of instructions on how to get the torbox add on using AIOstreams. I tried to do it earlier today but was having trouble when adding the torbox add on in AIOstreams.

Is whitelisted IP's only for Public Instances and Dev's?

I asked this question because I'm currently selfhosting StremThru(Torz Addon), Comet, and Torbox Search(via Aiostreams) this change basically bricks these addons for selfhosters. My biggest concern is Torbox Search for usernet cache. So my question is can I apply for my ip to be whitelisted?

Another question is: will this brick integration with other apps? For example, I use Hydra Launcher for games. It has Torbox integration built in. Will this still work?

Lag- def a user error. Halp

Hey friends,

Switched to TB from RD. I’m such a noob. My experience so far has been less than stellar. Catalogue seems constrained even with popular films and my stremio is almost non functional with buffer. Nuvio has worked slightly better but I’m still in the struggle.

Media fusion and comet add ons only for now.

What am I am obviously not doing right or well? Take pity on the novice.

What’s your average wait time from clicking a link to the movie actually playing?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to gauge if my current setup is normal or if I need to tweak some settings.

When you click on a cached link using TorBox, how long does it usually take for the video to actually start playing for you?

Lately, I’m noticing a pretty significant delay—sometimes a 20 to 40-second loading screen before the stream finally opens. It seems to get way worse during peak evening hours, even on files that are confirmed as cached. If possible provide:

  1. Average wait time: (Is it instant, 5-10s, or 30s+?)

  2. CDN Setting: Are you using Auto, or did you manually switch to Cloudflare/Bunny?

Just trying to see if this is a known API compute bottleneck on TorBox's end during high-traffic times or if there's something I can optimize on my side.
