I have a 2006 Toyota matrix (standard)
Today after driving fine in the morning about an hour later I tried to start it and it just wouldn’t and wasn’t making any sounds as if it’s trying to turn over
We tried jumping it with no luck
We checked fused and they appeared fine
We tried hitting the starter with a tire iron
Finally we bomb started it and it was successful.
My question is are there other mechanisms in the car I should be looking at that can cause this lack of starting I should be looking at or is this certainly the starter?
Currently the plan is for me to remove the starter to have it tested but any suggestions about what the problem(s) likely are greatly appreciated.
Proud new (to me) owner of a base auto 2009 Toyota Matrix 1.8. The car only had 2 owners and both did extensive meticulous maintenance on it and I got it with only 124k miles. Have already gone on several road trips just fine.
Cosmetic upgrades planned:
• radio and back up cam
• tint
• black hubcaps
Preventative maintenance planned:
• trans drain and fill (was last done about 50k miles ago)
• PCV valve
• clean MAF sensor
• engine and cabin air filters
• serpentine belt
• throttle body cleaned
• I live in the rust belt, and it has some surface rust underneath but am going to get it woolwaxed/undercoated
I've already had the car looked over by a mechanic I trust, and with the maintenance history it has, pretty much checks out, but are there any other small things that are easily overlooked that should be replaced due to simply just age that I should add to the list?
In case anyone needs a reference. The ‘04 hatch door fits in the back with the seats folded down. An ‘04 rear bumper sat on top with a corner slotted between the seats.
Got it for 300$, and I drove it home. 160000 miles, anything to worry about on these things?
Father-in-law gifted us his old 2006 Matrix XR with manual transmission and I've turned it into my personal summer project. You all know this, but what a fun drive.
Recently installed an aftermarket stereo in there myself and it transformed the experience. Got quoted $1200-1500 from an auto body shop to do the job, so I spent weeks researching head units, Matrix part configurations and watching YouTube videos.
Parts list:
- Eonon X3 head unit: $153
- Toyota double din dash kit: $18
- Toyota radio ISO harness: $25
Total: $196 CAD
I know some may scoff at the Chinese brand, but you can't beat that price for wireless Android Auto and really decent sound output (and in this economy?!). Had to update the firmware to fix a couple of bugs but all's well now. I'm particularly proud of the fit and finish of everything - it looks basically factory.
The kit is legit, everyone! Transforms the entire car. Now it really looks low mileage! Not even an ad, but the results speak for themselves. Hopefully they last a very long time
It's got 100k miles, runs and drives great. Just curious if this engine noise is worrisome?
She's gonna need some paint and body work to improve but she's 16 and making it though salty winters like a champ.
How am I looking for the rear undercompartment for now?
(102,430 miles on ODO)
Just an appreciation post. First time this year finally throwin’ on the cross bars and kayaks and gettin’ out on the water after a bunch of crazy weather. The versatility of these things is awesome.
once again, I’m a new member. just wanted to send a vid of the beauty. She is missing a rear bumper. Got the car from my dad and he said it fell off and he didn’t wanna put it back so I thought instead of a replacement imma just get an aftermarket rear bumper.
220k miles. Ive been trying to figure out what it is for a while now. I only hear it when in gear and accelerating. It is immediate when I press the throttle down. Immediately stops when I let off. It's around 2-3.5k+ rpm in every gear. Is this something I should keep worrying about or ignore it? To my knowledge it's not affecting anything.
hey yall. just got a Toyota matrix 2 days ago. she has 224000 miles. just wondering if anyone has recommendations for aftermarket body parts and replacement engine parts.
I just bought this repair manual and found that it has no acknowledgement that there are 4WD versions of the cars. I don't need it for anything at the moment, but it doesn't even have simple things like procedure or specifications for replacing differential fluid. I'm sure I can find any of that information elsewhere, but I was looking forward to having the information all in one book.
I generally get information from Google and YouTube when necessary, but I was hoping to have something that felt a little more officially.
Does anyone have recommendations for more extensive repair manuals or a reliable place to find repair/maintenance procedures?
I broke the screw that held it and I wouldn’t even want it to fall
ABAP is bugging out
Hoping to get some advice here. Have a 2004 Toyota Matrix Xr with the 1.8, auto trans. Been very reliable since we bought it a couple years ago, no problems at all.
My son just started door dashing, where previously this car was just used for school transportation and basic use, so not a ton of driving (like 3k miles a year). He came out from picking up an order, with no crank no start. Ignition turns on, all the lights come on, but turn the key to start and nothing happens. So far I’ve ruled out the battery, starter, ignition switch, and starter relay. The signal wire to the starter is showing no voltage when the ignition is turned to start. I can jump the signal wire with 12v and confirm the starter cranks, but even doing this the car won’t turn over. Tried putting car in neutral and still won’t start, so don’t think it’s the neutral safety switch either.
What’s a little strange is the lock button on the key fob doesn’t work, but the other buttons do. We’ve tried disconnecting the battery for over 30 minutes to try and reset any possible ECM issues.
Thinking maybe something with the factory security system, like an engine disable feature?
After spending a few hours on everything I finally gave up and towed it to a shop. They are also still trying to figure it out. Just hoping someone on here may have some experience with this issue and can point me in the right direction.
