Hot or not?

Decided I wanted to give the daily driver some love. 2007 manual base. Added an xrs rear bumper and side skirts using magnets because i didnt wanna drill holes lol.

Been looking for a spoiler. Tried to source an ATS but theyre impossible to find in Canada. Ended up finding a 2010 xr wing and modifying it to fit the first gen. Just not too sure if it looks weird. Debating on modify it more to lower the rake.

TLDR. Modified a 2010 XR wing for my first gen, does it look weird?

Doing some yard work with my 2006 XR

I miss my F-150, but my Matrix and a Harbor Freight trailer make up for it.

can my 2004 toyota corolla matrix cruise at 75-80mph for a good amount of time?

howdy all :)
i have a lovely little 2004 matrix, she’s still a baby ( about 113,840 miles on her ). she’s in great shape, all aside from a check engine light that’s on for a evac leak, lol.
i sometimes travel out to my boyfriend ( from buffalo to rochester ), and love to cruise, safely of course.
both my dad and my grandma tell me, however, that she is not “built for that speed”, and “you’ll loosen things up if you go that speed”…can someone tell me if that’s true or not?
i really love my car..i don’t want to hurt her.

The '09 2.4L Matrix is surprisingly capable

Finally put proper tires (Yokohama Advan A052) on my '09 S FWD automatic. Managed second in my class over a GTI on street tires, Taurus, Mazda 3 (though barely), Dodge Dart something, and an older Fit. I can usually keep pace or beat late model Fits which have a similar power to weight ratio and a similar suspension setup. These Matrixes are pretty nimble for having MacPhersons and a torsion beam.

I did get beaten by a Jetta GLI in my class but that's a significantly more capable car.

I've been faster than a bunch of old Miatas before but they might've been on street tires. Don't ask how much faster an old Miata on these same tires with decent suspension and camber was.

Matrix dash has a lot of Christmas lights

Hey guys, proud matrix owner here. Just needed a little help to identify a problem on my matrix. A few lights popped up on my 09 Toyota matrix S, and this code right here, the thing is the lights go away after a day or two and come back after 1-2 weeks and it's the same repeating stuff and there's also the vsc off light that blinks, it's not in the picture because it was mid blink. What can I do to get this fix and how can I figure out what exactly is causing this. It says the oxygen sensor but I have no idea what's causing it, worn out sensor maybe or something worse? Thanks guys.

What's this noise? It's usually when the passenger wheel goes over a bump.

It's kinda weird because on some days the noise isn't as bad

Door Panel Replacement

2009 Base Model. Previous owner installed cloth on both driver and passenger door panel arm rest because he said something happened to the OEM plastic one, but it’s peeling and stained. I’d like to replace them with the OEM black plastic panel, like in the third picture, but couldn’t find just that panel online. I would think he put cloth over the OEM panel but I’m not sure and I don’t want to start taking apart the door panel or cutting out the cloth without knowing a concrete replacement method. Is there a reasonable way to replace just that panel or would I need to replace the whole door panel?

1.8L engine shakes on startups

I have had 4 of the same car a 2010 that would rattle when the engine started sometimes, it was at 270km. 2 2012's that were written off in accidents from rear ends in traffic - 2010/2013 both close to 180km no issues, rattles or problems. I bought a 2014 S last November, the engine is not shaking yet but on some startups It sounds very similar to the shaking that the bad 2010 had. Its only at 140km. Im looking to stop the issue before it gets to the bad state so I can get the car to around 300km. Any ideas? Last owner was a grandma and I know the car sat sometimes.

2005 Toyota Matrix Seeking Mechanical Advice

Hi everyone. I was headed back from a day trip to Oklahoma city and ran into some automotive issues. The vehicle is a 2005 Toyota Matrix with 298k miles. I started noticing a rough idle after filling up just minutes before. Although we had the occasional rough idle during the cooler weather with this being summer it was noted. Got back on the road drove a few miles and noticed if i pushed the accelerator id hear a ticking noise. I quickly pulled off to the side of the road as i heard it and noticed a lack of acceleration. Shut the car off and noticed smoke coming out the passenger side of the hood.

Opened the hood and noticed the coolant was completely gone. Do keep in mind it was full even to the reservoir fill line earlier that day when we had headed to okc. Coolant was quite a bit of places under the hood from spraying. We had the vehicle towed home and the tow truck driver thought he would see if it would start to simply back it into the driveway and it would not.

I checked the dipstick and it looks as attached . Im not a mechanic by trade but this vehicle sure has been good to us and hoping she might have a little left in her. But if its time to let her go id understand. With the mileage id say its performed well. Unfortunately we recently for new tires on her and i had tuned up the A/C before summer had hit and she was running well.

There are some known error codes we have had for awhile but some are certainly new from the coolant leak. I am hoping this might help give a better snapshot for you.

Codes that have appeared before

P0171

P0741

New Codes at Incident

P0117

P0441

P0455

P0456

If more diagnostic information is needed i can do my best to get what is needed.

Taking it on a trip

I found out 3rd gear doesn't seem to handle inclines very well. It doesn't accelerate at all if you floor it unless you downshift. Still fun to drive stock within its limitations. I might have to replace the shifter bushing as it is giving a little bit of play and I keep confusing Reverse with 3, but when it works, it works.

Worth Getting a 2009 Toyota Matrix?

What's the read on a 2009 Toyota Matrix Model XR with 210k km on it? Someone is selling for $6,500 but can likely negotiate down to $5,500. It's been rust-proofed every year for 7 years, which is crucial as I'm in a cold climate.

KYB vs Monroe Shocks

Hey y'all,

A few months ago I bought a 2009 vibe as my first car, and I have been absolutely loving it. The ride however, is very rough due to both the nature of the car and the fact the shocks are barely functional (car has 284k km).

I'm looking into shock options, and I've narrowed it down to KYB shocks (OEM) or Monroe quick struts. I know KYB is generally considered to be better quality, but Monroe quick struts are generally considered to have a softer ride.

Given the nature of being a compact car with an already rough ride at the best of times, and the fact that the region I live in has horrible roads (Kitchener/Waterloo Ontario) I was wondering if Monroe may be a better option for the sake of comfort.

Does anyone have experience with either, or both? I'm finding a lot of conflicting information about the quality/reliability of both makes online so first hand would be preferable! Cheers

Rear suspension knuckles

I have a 2012 AWD 2.4L Toyota Matrix and I want to replace the back steering knuckles. I have found the right one in some places but cannot find the left at all besides on Shop Earl which has no photos of the part condition. Is there anything that is interchangeable for this or somewhere I should be looking?

I cant figure out what is going on with my 2004 toyota matrix xr with automatic transmission

I know very little about cars and need some advice. I drive a 2004 Toyota Matrix XR.

The car already had a steady Check Engine Light for code P0420, but it ran fine until we hit a major storm.

We went through a very deep water puddle. At the same time, a car beside us splashed a massive wave of water all over us. A few seconds later, the Check Engine Light started flashing. at the same time, the Battery Light started flashing. Then the steering wheel became incredibly stiff/heavy (either lost power steering or locked up; Im not sure). after like 15 seconds everything started acting fine so we continued 1 mile to my friends house where it was safe. We called my dad and he gave us a couple ideas but when we went to try again the RMPS were jumping from 1,000 to 2,000, so we towed it home. once we were home, after a couple hours, We started the car to see if it would run. The flashing lights were still gone, and the steering still felt normal. However, we noticed white smoke consistantly coming out of the exhaust pipe, so we turned the car back off.

We started the car again the following day, and new symptoms appeared, however the white smoke was gone.

While sitting in Park, the RPMs were actively surging/jumping back and forth between 1,000 and 2,000 RPM. When shifted into Drive, this jumping and rough idling got significantly worse. When shifted into Neutral, a loud squealing sound started coming from the serpentine belt area.

We also noticed a cable/electrical connector that looks completely unplugged near the Alternator, my dad said he thinks it could be to the crankshaft position sensor, but not sure.

We have already ordered new spark plugs and ignition coils hoping the water just caused a bad misfire, but we are completely lost aside from that. any ideas?
