Gabriel Bethlen was Princeps of Transylvania from 1613 to 1629. From 1620 to 1621 he was considered King of Hungary but had no control over the entire country, thus the Hungarian coat of arms at top. The artist is unknown but is thought to be Aegidius Sadeler, a Flemish master mostly active at the court of Emperor Rudolf II in Prague.

Hiking trip to Transilvania

Hi guys.

My questions need a bit of an explaining introduction. I was born a German/Saxon/Sas in Sibiu but my family left die Germany in the early nineties. I luckily still speak a bit romanian visited a few times and mostly knowemy was around in your beautiful country. It also happens to be that i am an active scout leader. Now i am planning a hiking tour to transilvania for a group of roundabout 10 teenage & young adult boyscouts. The idea is not to go to the carpathian mountains but explore the hills of central Transilvania and Experience the unique mix of Nature and historic culture. We got our eyes in the region south of the Târnava Mare river, start from around Medias and go slowly trough the southern sidevalleys with their villages and over the hills. It is in the highly esteemed german scouting tradition of "making a tour" (german: "auf Fahrt gehen") where you go exklusively by foot, camp in canvas black tents & carry everything you need with you by yourself. But as it would be hard to carry also all provisions from start to finish i have some questions regarding the shopping situation in small villages (my practical romanian shopping experiences so long are limited to towns & cities).

- From driving through and study of Google Maps i know that quite a lot of villages have small grocery shops (magazin mixt, "La doi pasi" etc). What kind of dry food products (weight issue with hiking) and unrefrigerated foods that are simple to cook on a small camping stove, can one expect to find there? (Mamaliga i know ;-) )

- Is it realistic that these shops sell either small camping gas cartriges or burning alcohol (Spiritus) so that we could replentish our fuel for our Camping stoves.

- How is the situation considering "wild camping" meaning the pitching of some small tents in the nature (not in an area of official natural preservation of course, and we would of course not harm the nature or litter in any sort of way ans Always behave respectful). How tolerant are people in general & officials (police, forrest agenies...) towards this in general?

- Is there a chance to geht hold of the following map? Or a high resolution scan of it? I was unable to find a online shop that has it in stock.
