I'm planning to rent a car for a weekend in Transylvania this November (either first or second weekend). I'm landing in Cluj-Napoca, and plan to head to Sibiu (stopping at Corvin Castle for a quick day-trip), then back to Cluj (stopping at Torocko/Rimetea on the way back).

Will this be a feasible trip by car at this point in the year? Any advice would be appreciated! Mulţumesc/Köszönöm :)

I’m hoping to do some country hopping on the weekends during exchange in Italy. I understand you need to apply within 8 working days of arrival (or 8 days after start date of visa*?*) for a residence permit, after which you get a receipt and will eventually get a permit card.

If you have a type d visa (multiple entries) spanning your entire exchange period), can you travel into and out of Italy with your passport, visa and permit receipt, or are you effectively stuck in Italy while waiting for the actual permit card? Thanks!

I’ve finally gotten my type D visa back! Only issue is that the start date is a week and a half after I plan to arrive. I’m planning to travel for a couple weeks in Italy before classes start, so this was expected. I’m also from a country in which Italy allows citizens to travel freely for 90 days without a visa. However, I’m not sure what the exact protocol is for getting my visa and resident permit situation in order from September onward.

Q 1: is it possible to activate the visa from within Italy on its start date, or do I need to leave Schengen (I.e. take a quick trip to Albania) on or after the start date, to activate it?

Q 2: when should I go about the residence permit application? Is it only after the visa starts that the 8-day countdown begins, or do I need to go to a post office within my first 8 days of travel (even if my visa hasn’t started yet)?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
