Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with Aberdeen short courses (Process/Chemical Engineering)

Hi Everyone,

I am about to graduate with MSc Advanced Chemical Engineering from Strathclyde University. While I am waiting for the final result (I expect distinction, as I marked around 80% on average), I am looking into continuing my education, but not feeling ready for a PhD yet.

As a result, I came across a few courses from Aberdeen‘s University, which seem to fit my interests and context.

The courses are online and delivered via MyAberdeen platform. This fits my schedule perfectly, as I am employed full-time.

I am thinking of taking these two starting 21st September:
Safety and Risk Management
Human Factors in Industrial Practice

And two out of the following three in January:
Advanced Process Control
Human Factors Engineering
Applied Risk Analysis and Management

Has anyone taken these courses, and if yes, what can you tell about them? Is the course quality high (Strathclyde was a mix of high-quality courses and low-quality, decade-old recordings and handwritten scanned pdfs), and most importantly, is it relevant?

The descriptions of these sound highly applicable to industry roles (HAZID, HAZOP, reliability calculations, etc.) and my expectations are no different.

Are other universities/companies offering similar programs that are better in terms of quality and relevance to industry?

TDLR: Has anyone taken these courses or knows more about them, or similar courses (from other institutions), or maybe can give some advice on generally continuing education after graduation.

Thanks in advance, your input is appreciated!

Delays in my CAS

Hi, i’ll be starting at the university in sept but i’m still yet to receive my CAS. I submitted my fee and my documents by 28th of july but still have not received anything from their end, i’ve been emailing them to no avail. Is there anybody else who’s also facing a similar issue? also how long do they usually take to issue the CAS and joining papers?

Accommodation issue

Has anyone else had issues with applying for accommodation? It says I cannot be verified whenever I put in my details to apply for accommodation and when I called they said I was still pending in their system and that they need to get admissions to sort it out, it’s only been a couple days since results day so I understand that they’re busy but it’s rlly stressing me out!! I’m a new undergraduate btw.

Hi, is anyone going to Uni of Aberdeen 2026 intake and looking for accommodation?? I've decided not to go uni this year and my accommodation won't let me cancel my contract unless i find a replacement. It's a single room, shared bathroom & kitchen: £4180 per year. Can pay in 10 installments. Let me know if anyone is interested!

Finding a Flat and a Flatmate

Hello,

I'm trying to find a flatmate to stay with. I frequent Foresterhill Health Campus and I am looking for a flat near there. I was wondering if someone here was looking for the same things. If this applies to anyone, please don't hesitate to send a PM or something.

Thank you for your time.

Aberdeen University not recognising past results

So, has anyone received a learning plan which basically says they have to do an extra year of studying to obtain their level 9 (BA degree).

They've disregarded an entire year of studies and credits. Basically having to do another 2 modules at level 8.

Accommodation Advice! (King St, Powis, Links)

Debating which accommodation to book in Aberdeen. My options are King Street (Every Student), Powis Place and Linksfield (Mezzino). Does anyone have any experiences from any of these?

So far King Street (Every Student) has the best location and I like the rooms a lot (though might end up in a room facing a brick wall...) and has en-suites. And read a lot of bad reviews. But it feels most "studenty" and is closer to the other accommodations for nights out etc. Most expensive out of these but only by some few pounds.

Powis Place has a free gym, the best rooms, and an en-suite and but I'd need to take the bus everywhere. The location and higher price than Links are quite big downsides here. Feels least like a student place.

Linksfield (Mezzino) is by far the cheapest and has free laundry, but has a small bed, not an en-suite (though only shared with 3 others) and has a very small desk which are the reasons I've not really booked it yet. Location is perfect; close to the Sports Village, shops around, close to the beach and the university, decent bus routes. I keep thinking all going well I can always book it for next year I suppose.
